Over the last few years, I stopped enjoying taking photos for people. There are several different reasons for that, but it was mainly the stress of trying to produce images that the families would love. I also had a few clients that really turned me off from doing these types of shoots.

I really hate when clients try and direct me during the shoot and tell me what kind of photos they want me to make for them. The first few times, I went along with it and pretty much let them direct the whole shoot. In the end, I did not like the images that came out of those shoots, mainly because those images were not really my style.

The last few times when I knew I had a client that wanted to try and boss me around, I just reminded them that they hired me because of the look of my photos. I let them know that I shoot my sessions in a different way than they are used to and that they pretty much needed to just trust my process. Some clients didn't want to give up that control over the shoot, and in the end, I told them that they should find someone else for their photos because I did not want to compromise my style anymore.

I think standing up to your clients and setting some boundaries from the beginning is the only way that you can grow as an artist. It is tough as first, but it gets a lot easier when you trust yourself and begin to find your style. I am looking forward to doing more portrait sessions. My daughter and I have a session on Tuesday and I am really looking forward to it.

One of the coolest things about working with my daughter is that I am letting her direct the shoots and I am just there pretty much documenting her growth. I really think that she is going to do great things as an artist and it will be cool to look back over the years and have it all documented through my photography.

If you are just getting into photography, one of the most important things that you can do is to practice as much as possible. Go out and do shoots for people for free while you are learning and finding out your style. Just go out and shoot anything and everything.

Great shots, man! I can understand why people try to direct everything. They want it to be a perfect shot, but at some point you have to respect the artist. If I worked with someone like you, I would never interfere with your photos. Like you said, they work with you because they like your photos. Then they should let you. I can't wait to see your photo shoots with your daughter.

When they try and direct me, it is the worst. I walked out in the middle of a shoot because the lady didn't respect my vision and wanted things her way. Since that shoot, I have become very selective of what kind of sessions I book. If the client wants to direct a photographer, they can hire any generic one they want.

It's nice to be able to share your passion for photography with your daughter.
Customers can be a pain in the ass for sure , that is probably why i stick mostly to naturephotography , i personaly don't have the patience to deal witth people that well .
But i do prefer the spontaneity in a portrait shoot rather then the static poses.

I had a few clients that really turned me off from doing family portrait sessions. Now I am very select of who I do portraits for.

yeah some really can drain your energy , for me it's just a hobby but if you have to pay the bills with photography it can be a hard choice .

I loved these photos. And I agree 100% with this:

I think standing up to your clients and setting some boundaries from the beginning is the only way that you can grow as an artist.

and very good advice you give us, thank you!

Thanks. I am glad you found the advice useful

"Just go out and shoot anything and everything."

☝️Best advice to newbies taking up photography. 👆

I used to bring my camera everywhere I go and just shoot. It annoyed my friends and family but they got used to it, eventually... haha. Creative control of a photo shoot is such a big deal especially if you already have an eye for great shots and your unique perspective as an artist. What clients might not be aware of is that the process extends beyond the actual session shoot and that this is all connected to a grand design which ends in the final print.

!LUV the contrast in the last photo. The boy's gaze was intense while interacting with the camera. The girl on the other hand, was looking at her phone, seemingly unaware that her photo was being taken. 😎

I'm glad a lot of my recent clients have let me do my own thing during the session. When they give me creative freedom, the photos all turn out way better than they expected them to be.

That's the reason they hired a professional. Good for you, man.

But the question here is are not to consider the taste of the customer even when it’s doesn’t sweet your taste

I really hate when clients try and direct me during the shoot and tell me what kind of photos they want me to make for them. The problem with going with the taste of the client when you are an established photographer is that their vision for what they want usually doesn't represent your personal style as a photographer.

Oh ok I get it now

Photography is an excellent passion, there is so much that a face can reflect. I loved the photos

Thank you. It was fun taking these.

Cool tips and nice heads up here, thank you.

Hope the tips help you some if you are getting into portrait photography.

She is very pretty baby, I liked your daughter so cute MashaAllah ❤️ ❤️

These are some superb shots. If people have hired you, they should have 100 % believe that you are going to give your 100% to make their picture looks perfect.

El cliente siempre tiene la razón dice el dicho, pero en este caso el especialista en fotos es usted.

If at some point I decide to dedicate myself to photography I will count on your advice as the best advice an artist can give me, because of how much experience you have and how much you have to share it is good to have you as an inspiration.

I can imagine the frustration you went through when clients requested your services because of your great quality and preferred to direct the photo shoot when the professional is you, besides there is nothing that transmits more feelings and memories like a photo does, that's why it's so great that you do photo shoots where your daughter is the one directing and you are there for a second opinion and documenting the experience, your daughter has a great future and a great teacher.
