Light Painting the book "Genesis" by Sebastiao Salgado

When I take a tour around my tiny library you'll find some diverse pieces. When it comes to photography I actually don't have much material. My partner brought this one home. That is easily explained by her Brazilian background.

To show you the pictures of this book would not be fair. So I insist you going either to the publich library or get it at the bookstore to satisfy your curiosity.

Explain Love

Many use the word in different ways and way too inflationary. In Germany, we use the word very sparse only, when we really mean it. This accounts for books just as much for our partner.

However, you handle that I urge you to use it kindly and with an open eye on your receiver background, culture, and heritage. It makes all the difference to account for different filters.

The Set-Up & Settings

At first, I was about 2m away and zoomed in but then there was not much to see of the pages. Then I moved in about 70cm from the book and used a relatively wide angle. In this case, the Canon 24-105mm F4 lens was at a 32mm focal length.

The Camera was set to ISO 100 and the Lens to F22. Since I was relatively close to the object and I knew my light will be very bright I used the high F-Stop.

So those who know me I love the Camera Rotation Light Paintings. So yes that's what you see here. It is not a reflection but a rotation mid-exposure.

The first image is a 47-second exposure and the second with the blue in it took slightly longer with a 75-second open shutter.

Wer mich kennt, weiß ich liebe Camera Rotation Light Paintings. Also ja, das ist genau was Ihr hier seht.

What do we find in your Library?

We are writing 2023 and hard-copy printed books are still a thing. I suppose sales number for prints are going continuesly downwards. So when we purchase a book it got to be worthwhile reading it again and again. In this very case its more about looking at the images. This is a book that holds a seemingly endless number of exceptional photographs. If you are into photography of any kind I highly recommend adding the "Genesis" to your selection.

Also, I love numbers so this was scheduled for 01-10 10:01

I hope you found these images inspirational. If you have more questions please do not hesitate. I am happy to share my knowledge.

If you think this is Spam, why did you read this far and why the fuck bother you? Move on from your self-righteous mind state and bury yourself. Don't bother about what others may find interesting. Just stay in your bubble and ...

All there is left to say is Cheer Up!

Niiiice!👍

Glad you like it .. cheers!

This is so creative and cool 😎
Thanks for sharing @gunnarheilmann 👋🏻😊
Beautiful, love it.

Thaaaank you sooo much. Glad I was able to put a smile on your face 😁

You are so welcome @gunnarheilmann 😊 you did 😁
Have a lovely evening!

Da gibt's also noch einiges was man machen kann.

That's really cool how you shot that with a book to catch that. I took a quick look on the net at the book itself and it look stunning. I have some old hardcover books of art, but I wouldn't trust myself to arrange one to photograph in the manner you've done.

I drooled seeing your camera set up.

Glad that I inspired some thought not only on what I did but also on the book. That's super cool! Thanx for taking the time and also reading through. So much appreciated!

I really enjoyed it. Can't quite get over the way the book looks like that. It's as if you made a sculpture with it, then did a lightpainting. I have a tendency to sit with art that I see and reflect on it. 😂

I was sitting at my dinner table with that book and playing with the pages. The Light Painting was already in the back of my head but I was undoubtedly not rushing it. Then the shapes started to form in a way I liked it. Then I was super motivated to do the Light Painting right away.

Lightpainting has altered how I see, so I get how it's in the back of your head. It starts with playing around. Really cool.

Now there's a good idea, well executed!

Wow, happy about comments and reactions like that .. hehe. Had this in my head for a loooong time but never got around it. Then looking at the "Genesis" book and seeing the double sided pages made all the difference. The double-size pages I was able to fold bigger to extend the space without adding extra paper to it. Although I am thinking of doing more just with some sheets of paper.

Maybe you get some cool ideas and play with it.

Wow!
Such a brilliant idea!

Another reason why I love books and light painting so much!!!

Aaaahh thank you very much. Glad you like it!

Yeah you're a freakin legend @gunnarheilmann!

Talk about thinking outside the box (or in this case book...🤣)
