In our hearts forever.

We had a very adventurous morning, with first a bit of heartache and then lots of fun.

The first part of the post was a bit sad, and the second part was a great laugh.

Animal lovers are a special breed of people, open-hearted and friendly.
A tree planting day event took place this morning, followed by a doggie-fun-event called a dog competition. We decided to adopt a tree in memory of our little Troy, and my wife had to paint a tile for him, that will be placed below the tree when it is planted. A concerted effort is being made to plant, I think about 300 indigenous trees in the public park, as most of the Oak trees fell victim to the borer beetles and they had to be destroyed. The sad thing is, that the two Oaks where I took photos of the owls were also cut down. But such is life.

It was a lovely morning, as you can see here below.

This is the tile that my wife painted for Troy, as he passed away late last year after spending 17 blessed years with us.

You can see that the holes have been dug and the trees were placed ready for planting, that will take place next week. One of those trees will have our tile below it.

And then the fun event started.

The place was alive with many people and their dogs, as some competitions took place such as biscuit catching, dog and owner look alike and my favorite, a dog and owner obstacle course. There was also the largest dog, the smallest dog, and the best dressed dog.
This was the obstacle course, and the idea was that the owner would take the dog, crawl through that tunnel with the dog, then run up, jump over some ropes, and zigzag through the red cones, with a catch at the end that I will show you below.

This is the tunnel, and of course some of the owners had to crawl through on their own as their dogs simply ran around the tunnel to wait for the owner on the other side, generating a lot of laughs.

This was the catch, as after the cone section they had to put both their legs in a bag, with their dog and then jump up to the yellow cone, turn around, and repeat the course on the way back.

I will have to show you more in another post, as we are severely constrained with power cuts, and I am now again rushing to even get this post in. Thankfully, it was a nice sunny day and I was also able to get some advance clouds such as the second photo of this post, of the huge cloudy banks that were coming over in the sky. All is clouded up now. It was the first time for us to attend one of these events, and we were so impressed that we signed up as friends of the park. Many volunteers work in the park and that is also another way how we can spend valuable time in nature, by repairing the damages done by the beetles and other issues.

So that is it for now, and I hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.

Looks like a really nice day! Love the obstacle course "competition," where the humans do stupid human tricks, and the dogs get to be dogs. That's a great idea for the tiles too. I'm on the tree board in my town, and you've given me some good ideas here.

Thank you and it was a first for us. Another great thing is that there were many winners, that got some certificates and everyone was happy.
I am glad to have given you some new ideas and I hope that it will work out very well.

very extraordinary event, and I have never seen an event like this at my place, very good post

Thank you and I hope that such an event will take place in your area sometime.

look like you have an great morning time having ful of adventures, they are looking very well playing.

Thank you and yes, they all were up to tricks. Our God has created nature for everyone's benefit, and we must look after it.

The tiles painting your wife made is extraordinary and sorry About Troy

Thank you and yes, we are struggling with the pain of our little friend's departure.

I would have had a good laugh too!! I'm honestly awed by the amount of effort and attention given to trees! It is honestly humbling. I would adopt a tree as soon as I step a foot in SA.

Oh yeah, the dogs had much fun. Animal lovers and nature lovers combined can certainly be a very strong force that can benefit the trees and everything else in nature.
Glad to hear you say that :)

When someone we love leaves this world, we only have his memories and we live only through those memories. A person should go for such a competition, the benefit is that the mind of a person is refreshed and a person forgets his sorrow for some time.

That sounds like you've had a real fun time there and I do hope that Troy's tree will grow the highest in the park 😃

Oh yeah, the fun really brought some relief from the heartsore, as my madam was crying when she painted the tile. Soon after that she was smiling and petting every dog that came up to her 😊

Cheers and thanks.

I would have cried too and I still feel very sad when I think of our old cat.

Oh yes, I really can imagine how Marian loved to pet each one of the other dogs 😀

Oh yes, it is a very heartsore affair, as so many things can trigger the memories.

Shame yes, it was like a balm for her soul and it was the ideal cure to get her smiling again 😊

Cheers and thanks.

You should visit such happenings more often or look for another Troy ... we have said "nomore cats" after the first one was gone and these are now number 4 and 5 😉 !LOLZ the old cats will never be forgotten, but the new ones help a lot.

Everyone says that, but the pain of witnessing our little guy's death is still too raw Hannes. There are so many triggers here in this house that instantly reminds us about Troy and I think with time things will become better 😴

The way that I know you, the little cats will be spoilt rotten 😮 !LOLZ

Cheers and thanks.

I completely understand you, we also needed a couple of months and when then we have found a family with new born kittens we have had to wait for over a month until they have been old enough to be separated from.
We have only kept the big scratching tree in our livingroom where the new cats sometimes sleep.

You're very right, even when they got fed they will get some treats whenever they look hungry ... they always look hungry 😂 !LOLZ
