Hummingbird hanging out on top of feeder

These little birds are so funny, the antics I see going on outside my window is pretty amazing. Sometimes they all get along, but usually they will go after each other while feeding. And sometimes they will sit on top of the feeder, waiting for others to try to feed just to swoop down on them.

Always surprised by how close they let me get to them. Or when I am out checking on my plants by them they will show up and feed with me just a few feet away.

I love the color of their coat, it has an emerald green color and the males have a ruby red color under their neck.

We can see the above is a male from its red coloring on its neck, along with it aggressively guarding the feeder. I have yet to see a female do that.

Besides all of that, I am happy to say these little birds have been visiting my cacti flowers as well. Seems they do when the feeder runs out but regardless they still are helping to pollinate them.

I've seen hummingbirds get territorial or possessive over a feeder, and chase off other hummingbirds who try to use one. For such little birds they can be mean!

I meant to put out feeders this year, but forgot to may go pick one up this weekend. No honey, no dye!

Indeed they do seem to fight over them, its pretty amazing to see them go after each other.

Good to hear you know the proper mix. Yeah we only use refined sugar and water. No dyes.

Hummingbirds are a beautiful species of bird.
These shots have done justice to the beauty of the bird.

Wow nice Bird I can't seen it before
Thanks for sharing ✨

Great job catching these on camera! We have humming birds in our backyard, but I have never tried to capture them on camera, they are super fast when flying and usually land quite far from our porch.

They sure are busy and I know what you mean. It is hard to get a shot of them. I was lucky enough to have one fly up while I was checking on my plants near by. So I was just a few feet away.

Lol, they're like little feathered bullies sometimes. One minute they're all peaceful, next minute it's total war over a few seeds 😂

They are quite impressive creatures. I am envious of the energy and ability to burn calories they have! My parents have a couple feeders and they love watching them.

Hah yeah its amazing how much they battle with each other. Sometimes they fight more than drink the sugar water.

They are fun to watch.

Very cool pics!! My father inlaw has a feeder as well - I've tried to capture the little buggers, but have yet to get a photo of that clarity!

Nice, yeah I was really close to get those pics. If I moved it would have flown away.

Beautiful!

The red throat on the male was like a tiny jewel, this is simply magnificent

Wow! Capturing these birds still is very difficult, and you did it!
Congratulations!

Amazing birds. I loved to watch them when I lived in Latin America. Didn´t know they are so common in the US as well and that they occur as north as Virginia :)
