One of the most important aspects of Rising Star to me is to allow people to play for free.
Many games exclude people with low incomes from playing due to the requirement to buy packs or cards to start and I wanted to see if it was possible to create a game without this requirement. I didn't know if it was possible!
After nearly two years I am really pleased that we have not only managed to continue allowing people to play for free but we have also built an amazingly passionate and helpful community that welcomes players from around the world with open arms.
The Constant Challenge
The obvious challenge with a free to play game that pays out crypto is that people will try to take advantage of this by creating multiple accounts or using bots.
Our solution, whilst not ideal, has been to restrict play to one "real" person within a "network".
To quote the terms and conditions in-game (which you should all read):
Please note that bots are not allowed. Any user suspected of using bots may have their account terminated without notice.
VPNs are not allowed.
Only one account is allowed per user. Anyone using multiple accounts will have all additional accounts banned and may have their main account banned for violations of these Terms & Conditions. This also includes multiple players sending cards and or STARBITS between accounts to gain an advantage that they would not be able to gain by playing independently.
No Cards To Be Sent Between Accounts
There has been some confusion regarding the sending of cards between accounts so we have now updated the game to use a whitelist system. Only players who do giveaways will be allowed to send cards from within the game. Other players will see the image above from now on.
Player Accounts Must Be Played Independently
Our systems for detecting multiple accounts get better all the time and we monitor activity on every account to detect behaviour that we need to investigate.
If you are an honest player who just plays your account independently and uses the market to buy and sell cards then you have nothing to worry about.
If you are trying to gain an unfair advantage and evade detection then expect to be found out at some point.
Multiple Accounts In The Same House
We understand that it is frustrating that we only allow one account per "network" and that many of you may want to introduce others in your family to the game but it is hard for us to know if multiple accounts are being played independently or not even if we did introduce something like KYC (which we have no plans of ever doing).
This restriction will therefore remain in place.
VPNs
People also use VPNs to try to hide the fact that they are multi-accounting so we do not allow VPNs to be used for Rising Star. If you have a legitimate reason for using a VPN then please let us know in discord. We would ask that you disable your VPN at least once a day when playing so we can see your actual IP address.
Person To Person Trading
Person to person trading is not supported by us.
If you wish to trade then you will need to use a third party app to send the cards. Please be aware that we monitor all card transfers and if we see anything suspicious we will investigate.
The 📈trading-zone channel in our Discord is there so people can see if anyone has been ripped off (which has happened on more than one occasion!). We recommend using the market for risk free trades.

I don't envy you running an economy like this. There's large sums of money moving through the game and market every day and that means a lot of responsibility. Of course some people will try to 'game' the system for profit and sorting those out from legitimate players is not easy.
I do trade some cards, but it's usually straight swaps with people I trust.
It's been fun to see the game grow to thousands of players. That has given you some challenges, but performance seems pretty good now.

Well, I almost help friends by sending cards, lucky I asked first in discord lol. Honestly, I didn't invest in this game. I gave time and effort in this game last year and now, I'm earning 8k-10k starbits daily. What's the magic? Love the game first! <3
I know despite with these restrictions, there are still multi accounts using different devices + mobile data and that's quiet hard to detect tho.
Our systems get better at detecting them all the time. If you suspect any accounts please post in support and just say you need to DM me.

Cuando llegué a Rissing Star venía de haber sido engañado por un SCAM y después de haber perdido dinero en proyecto que no cuidaron ni su economía ni la seguridad, por eso te felicito por estas medidas que aunque puede que no sean muy populares, ayudan a proteger el juego y que este dure por largo tiempo.
En los juegos NFT si algo abunda, son la gente avariciosa, egoísta y que solo piensa en su beneficio y no en que todos puedan beneficiarse, por lo que estas medidas son perfectas para alejar a gente así y que el juego vaya progresando de manera orgánica, segura y siendo una ayuda adicional para muchos de nosotros.
Para mi sorpresa, Rissing star es un juego excelente, que no es un simple clic to earn, sino que donde tienes que crear una estrategia, te anima a reinventir en el juego, es divertido y tiene una comunidad que es activa, dinámica y donde se encuentra mucha ayuda.
Además de esto se nota que todo está muy bien pensado paracuidar la salud del mismo y que el juego siga escalando siempre. LA posibilidad el Staking, ganar STARPRO etc, son además un PLUS añadido que hace más atractivo el juego, así que te felicito por todo el trabjo, horas y diseño de este excelente juego.
Así que de mi parte... no te dejes llevar por lo que es popular ya que no siempre es lo mejor. Las leyes de tránsito no son populares y salvan muchas vidas a diario. Tus reglas llevan salvando el juego durante años y pocos o casi ningún juego puede decir eso a día de hoy.

Does this mean that p2p transactions of starbits is now considered illegal? I've got friends who borrowed starbits from me in the past. I guess they can't borrow any more xD
Borrowing is against the rules and always has been as it is gaining an advantage.
Oh no. Okay thank you for clearing that up! Won't happen moving forward! I got friends who paid me in fiat for starbits and some times I just tell them not to pay me back (because I wanted them to play the game more).
Maybe if the STARBITS being borrowed are not used for obtaining or maintaining the STARBITS Millionaire Card, it should be okay. 🤔 It's just like borrowing/lending any other Hive Engine token (such as #Splinterlands's DEC) as replacement for fiat currencies or other cryptocurrencies. 🤓

Lending causes STARBITS inflation and would be fine if it wasn't a free to play game. The trade off with it being free to play is that players must play without help from others.

Right now, what prevents me from inviting my friends to the game is that they might accidentally connect to my network and play #RisingStar at the same time. 🤔 Nonetheless, it's okay because certain measures need to be taken against multiple accounts by the same people taking unfair advantage of a free-to-play game. 😊

Hope no one does multi-account in this game 😅This game is already in a stable state from what I see since the first time I played this game. Maybe just a suggestion, KYC is needed when a bunch of players is detected in one network and they say, "I'm playing independently". I don't know if my home wifi and mobile network are categorized as one network with others or not.🤷♂️I just use two of those to play Rising Star. Depends on the situation 🤔

KYC is too much administration and also has legal/privacy complications. Even doing KYC does not mean someone isn't just going to pass their login to the other person anyway.

Thank You for this excelent game!! I am glad that the cheaters are not allowed. But I have one question. In the Music Promoter Dashboard always win the same user the bids. Is that a bot or is a very constant person who didn't sleep? :)
There's no need for a bot. You just bid. Top bidder wins. If they ever run out of STARBITS in their pool, their bid will fall off
You are talking about @Wagginston I assume? It is a common misconception that it is a bot. Actually he has set all his bids to 150 and has millions of STARBITS in his pool. You can ask him in our discord if you want.

I agree it is not the best but if you see how many people send 10s of cards to accounts that are obviously multi-accounts you would be amazed! If we said "you can send 1 or 2 cards but no more" then we have to say "but only up to xxx number of fans" or something. It's too complicated for people to understand and it just creates far too much support for us to handle.
This is a clean solution as the rules are clear and as @foxon said these rules were always there but we are making them clearer by way of blocking the send option. This may not be ideal but it is easier for people to understand.
How do we apply or register ourselves for the Giveaways? I do Giveaways pretty regularly, so I'm curious if this is a manual process I need to start now, or if it's an automatic process and if we're shared in the RSGame posts, then we're already included?

I love the game, been playing for a few months now. Now I'm concerned as I introduced the game to my wife, she has been playing and loving it as well. But at night, when we are both at home, we use the same network. What can we do? It's not like we are using multiple accounts, will one of us have to stop playing? Could this be seen case by case? Thanks for the clarification on the rules you have in place concerning multi-accounts, and the bit of history on why you went free-to-play. As a bit of history, I started my blockchain gaming and crypto experience on a free-to-play game on WAX. That game also bans bots and multi-accounts. One method they used is that any multi-accounts identified result in the mining attempt always resulting in the absolute minimum result of the crypto currency they issue. Something you could try here in RSG, not sure how it would work, but if people multi-accounting always ended up with a mission giving them one starbit, they may get discouraged from playing. Maybe. Not always.
Something you mentioned in discord chat is that this is a GAME, not a money making machine, and players should not look at any money they put into the game (or any game) as an investment. Right on! I treat the money I spent on the game as spending money, like going to the movies. It's meant to be entertainment. It's a game, after all.
As for giving away cards/starbits, that isn't something I have done as yet, but am thinking of doing as I build up my own supply of NiFTy NFTs (I hope ya saw what I did there). I think that having a whitelist of players doing giveaways is a great idea, and it is good to know this in advance.
One piece of food for thought - on the discord channel, pin a post detailing some of the frequently asked questions (how often do you see people asking about how/where to get the starbit millionaire card) and in-game rules that need to be followed. Just a thought. It might help reduce some of the regularly asked questions.

The issue with only giving the minimum reward is that we still have to identify the multi-account in the first place. If we allow multi-accounts but then have to identify them it will be an admin nightmare. Not sure how the game you played detected multi-accounts though. Any idea?
Regarding the FAQ. There is one in-game but for some reason no one seems to find it at first.
Sorry, no clue how they identified multi accounts, but I would guess via a similar means that you are using via IP address. But that is a guess. As for bots, they were also looking at accounts that were constantly farming the game non-stop 24/7. Both methods would be a bit of a programming challenge, and then to admin it, youch!

Great update and clarity on the situation, we all want Rising Star to survive for the long long term.
I definitely agree with the approach you are taking, I did report around five users I suspect of being the same person in the discord a while back but nothing ever came of it.
I still check this persons accounts out from time to time, and they mostly win their own giveaways + farm other giveaways + receive curation from the RS Account on their multiple daily posts per account.
Kind of annoying to see, seeing as so many people are more deserving of the Starbits from giveaways or upvotes from the Rising Star account.
I am sorry we didn't find and ban those accounts. Could you please DM Julie with the accounts and we will definitely look into it!

It's very difficult to control cheaters when there is a real free-to-play game like this. In my opinion, RS is a very good game that allows people from all the economical conditions to win money without invest anything. So, I am glad that you manage the game and the rules as you are doing, always thinking in the community. Thanks!

What if I use a public IP?
Of course, I mostly use my home IP but, if I'm out, I may use public wifi or cell data.
The system looks at all IP addresses an account is using and takes that into account when flagging an account so you should be fine.
Thank you for making the system get better day by day, glad to hear we should be fine, I also use 4 IP in total, I have 2 wifi in my home, public cell data when I play using my mobile phone and use wifi at my work, I enjoy listening to the music when I am working too.

The particularity with VPNs is that they have become indispensable in today's Internet browsing for all citizens - I'd add: much better if they are self-hosted VPNs.
Not using a VPN is the exact equivalent as walking in the street with a placard telling to everyone (to all web actors) our physical address, our exact first names and family names, and our life tastes and preferences (because sooo many things are searchable thanks to an IP address). Or the same as living in today's China, where citizens receive a fine on their "smart"phone a couple of minutes after having put their garbage bin 2 or 3 meters away from where it should have been located.
Of course, I know that Rising Star will not use our IP's with malevolent intentions. I just would like to avoid the general perception of VPNs - as any other privacy preserving tools (where VPNs are far from being the best ones) - becoming one of "a technique essentially used by scammers and multiaccounters" 🙃.
Totally agree that VPNs are a good thing but we need people to at least run a few missions a day without a VPN otherwise the game would die very quickly if we allowed players to connect with VPNs and never disclose their actual IP address.
Ok! Compliance is legit when it's for the greater good of Rising Star 🙃.
