Christmas Market in Brühl, Germany,

in Market Friday5 months ago

When at Brühl, you must visit the Phantasialand Park and the Brühl Castle. But at this time of the year, there is another beautiful spot to spend some time in - the Christmas Market.

I wanted to take a look at the St. Magdalena Church when I stumbled upon this beautiful market. It is in the city center, right in the Markt, the Market area.

The weather was just a little cold and wet. The dark sky made the Market look more appealing with all the yellow and red lights. I found the city to be very relaxing and the people quite friendly, too.

This was a very slow paced walk through the Christmas Market. Even slower than in the Netherlands. It was a pleasant surprise. I took my time looking at the items and appreciating the beautiful designs of the shops.

The shops were of all sorts. I was expecting to only see foodstalls and Christmas related items. But I was wrong. In the pictures you can see that there are shops selling scarves and hats. One of the shops I spent some time in front of was selling handmade jewellery. I haven't seen those in a very long time, let alone know anyone who buys those. So it was nice to look at.

There were a lot a of foodstalls. From baked items to potato fries. There were also some items that I have never seen or eaten before. If my appetite hadn't diminished from the travel I would have tried some.

There were also a lot of stalls with fair games. But of course, in smaller sizes. Games from childhood, like magnet fishing and ring throwing, ah so nostalgic! It was still early in the day so there weren't too many people. I'm sure more people come through during the evening.

These three shops I specifically took pictures of because they stood out. If you notice you'll see they are a little different than the others.

Especially the mulled wine spot was different from all the others. It was like a a tiny cardboard castle. Very beautiful. And the smell, ah! So nostalgic. Reminded me of the Kharkov December events in the city center.

The other one was shaped like a windmill. It was also a bar that served mulled wine. Looks like all the places that serve drinks were larger and had tables with roofs.

This market isn't very big. In about half an hour I had seen all the shops here. I headed towards the church and saw other brick and mortar shops that were also in full festive decorations.

Not far from this street market, there was another!

These were typical street side pop up shops. But even then the assortment was very beautiful and attractive.

I mean look at this beautiful line up of short Christmas trees! They also had a lot of fresh flowers on the other side. I wonder where they get their fresh flowers from....maybe there's a business near the vast parks and forests.

Right next to this street was yet another market. I believe this is usually a fruit and vegetables market but has now turned into a Christmas decorations market.

Some of these prices shocked me. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would be happy to pay these prices especially during the holiday season a son. It is what makes holidays special right? The extra pzzazz that we add to the normally mundane days. I have never really done such decorations so it is still a very foriegn thought to me and maybe that's why I'm shocked at the prices that these decorations can demand.

But that are an absolute treat to look at.

What a beautiful market! The danger would be to want to bring everything he,he,he,he. Very clean, organised and the prices were very tempting. Thank you for taking us there. Regards.

Haha yes that could be a problem. Thankfully I knew I would waste everything if I bought them so I was happy as well as my wallet.

I've always wanted to go to a real Christmas market. I was in Germany once just before the holidays and they were setting up for the markets, and I almost tried to extend my trip!

It was delightful to see all your pictures. I'm glad to see some people are carrying on the tradition of Market Friday, even though @dswigle is on break from running the community.

Did you end up staying longer? I have visited quite a few back home. I think this is the first one in about 2 years though.

The decorations of the market is so pretty. I am loving it 😍

I saw you are a participant of the Zealy Outreach Campaign. The Prize Distribution details has been published and the happy news is top 100 participants will get the Prizes. So you can easily recover your XP and get exciting prizes.

Thanks for letting me know :)

I see so many nice things there, some of which are calling my name 😆, like those scarfs. I'd love to buy one that goes well with my hair. The Christmas decorations also worth some attention.

There was a stall with handmade soaps too. I'm pretty sure that would have also caught your eyes.

Sooooaaap 😍😍😍 Looks like you know me.

I actually go magnet fishing for real. It's quite popular over here with nerds like me. You get a strong flat magnet and tie it to some rope and throw it into the canal. Whatever metal is in the canal will obviously get stuck to the strong magnet. People have found stolen motorbikes or even hand grenades from World War II. That's when you phone the bomb squad! The best thing I've found is a discarded shopping trolley lol.

That's so cool. I have seen videos of magnet fishing in the canals of Amsterdam. They almost always and exclusively catch bikes. Can't imagine how it must feel finding weapons and bombs. Phew. What's a trolley doing in the water 😆

Yes, there's some good videos of the Amsterdam canals. I think kids take the supermarket trolleys and then dump them. I also think adults use them to take their shopping home if they live nearby, and then don't take them back.

You have found a proper Christmas market. I just have attempts to find it 😂

I'm sure you'll find one. I just got lucky 😜
