This is one of those photos which I managed to get during my short rounds on the weekends when I'm looking for fresh provisions. Street side markets are getting harder to find nowadays since the lockdown. What used to be a large parade of fresh vegetables, meat, seafood and dried food has now turned to just a simple basket or plastic bags. Middle aged ladies sit by the side of the streets with their goods waiting for passerby like me to come. I realised that many buy just what they need for either a meal or a day's cooking.

As for me, I do my grocery shopping once a week so I tend to buy more than others. These 2 ladies are now my favourite to go place.

Firstly, they have more goods to sell compared to others;
Second, their prices are much lower;
Third, it's a closer walk to my apartment.

And tomorrow, I shall do my grocery shopping; I do need fresh vegetables since I've cooked almost everything in my fridge except for a small bunch of spinach.

Do you have the same experience as I do ?

This is the one tag and weekly challenge that I try to make a point to join; not to mention that I'm also a fanatic when it comes to sight seeing or shopping in any form of market - indoors, outdoors, food, textile, accessories and etc.

It is always interesting to see the different markets around the globe!
There's so many different cultures and beauty in this world and the more we travel and open up our eyes, the more we gain.

It's easy to participate :

  1. Go to the market! Any market will do! Food, Clothing, Plant or Animal, if you wish. You can go to the zoo or an art auction. Anywhere or anything that you pay money for a service.
  2. Take pictures! Be creative (or not)
  3. Tell us a little bit about the market, what brought you here?
  4. Post the picture(s)
  5. Don’t forget to hashtag it! #MarketFriday by @dswigle
  6. Minimum 250 words

Hi 👋🏻 It’s good to see how other people are dealing with the lockdown. I’m glad you find your favorite vendors, everything is fresh and you help them too... Hang in there, this shall pass!

Hi @starjewel
I agree with you on the helping part.
I feel sad when I see them because I can imagine how hard life is for them now.
And having to have their goods placed on plastic bags & displayed by the street side, waiting for buyers like me to come and support them. Not to mention, the occasional police officers who come and hassle them for selling their goods. Life is just getting tougher and tougher.

How awesome! You found some ladies close to your apartment and they are cheaper? I am sure they appreciate the bulk business you give them!

Win-win

It has been really hard on lockdown, seems like so much is getting more and more behind, but, the only thing we can do is keep on trying to do our best and to use proper social distancing and hopefully, things will get back to a more normal place.

And prayers. Because I need to. Thank you so much for showing us what life is like in Vietnam at this time. Much appreciation!

#MarketFriday loves you!

I'm happy that I can share part of the local Vietnam life here although I'm a foreigner myself.
My communication is still very limited yet somehow with sign language and the limited words that I know and understand, I'm doing just fine. Maybe because I don't look very local so they kind of guess it.

Which is also why I always end up going back to the same stall to buy my groceries. The ladies know me so well that after a while, there's no need for verbal communications except to tell me how much it is. And yes, I know what is One to Ten to One Hundred in Vietnamese.. ha ha

Well done!!! That is the first thing I learn when I go to another country is money and numbers! I have gone with people who don't have a clue and they stand a chance of being taken advantage of that way. Not that people would deliberately do that, but, who's to say one wouldn't? :)

It's more empowering to know what you are spending.
