Scavenger hunt and off to the market I go

in Market Friday2 years ago

I am late for the scavenger hunt initiated by @dreemsteem for #DreemportChallenege and #MarketFriday which is hosted by @dswigle. Confused yet? lol!

Anyway, there were three places I was considering for this scavenger hunt but unfortunately, I can only make it to one and that is the market encounter that has become a thing every Sunday here in Baguio City, turning Session Road into a market, art and entertainment. Therefore, I couldn't make the challenge on time but still decided to do it.

The items to look for are something bubbly, prickly, smells good and something that compels you to buy.

The first thing that I saw right away when I get to the venue was this.

image.png

It's a fruit juice stand but they also sell fruits too. These pineapples are just so yum.

When I got to the top of the road, there is this stall that sells accessories.

image.png

Each necklace costs PHP5500.00 (USD102.31 as of this writing). That is costly. It is made of animal teeth in rattan lace.

I couldn't afford that one. If I were to buy, I will choose this one which costs PHP150.00 (USD2.79).

I like that one with other accessories added to the lace.

Another item for this category is this guyabano or soursop. This costs PHP217.00 (USD4.04). It is PHP100.00 per kilo and this is more than a kilo.

image.png

This is one of my fave fruits for I like something sour and this is both sour and sweet.

For something bubbly, I couldn't find something to my liking. It's really a challenge to take photos here because it was busy and crowded. So much going on.

I saw a stall selling wines like Bugnay wines and Strawberry wines. Bugnay is a tree that is native of Asia and Australia. Other names include currant tree, salamander tree, wild cherry, etc. (Source: Wikipedia)

image.png

Each bottle costs PHP180.00 (USD3.35). They are offering free taste but I am not in the mood. I did visit other stalls to check other options for this entry but no luck.

Another bubbly thing though was not from the market encounter but when we went for lunch. I ordered a beer. I have been craving for one the other day. I could have bought some at a nearby store but I didn't.

I took several shots and collage it while waiting for our food to be served. I wanted something ice cold but none was available so they gave me a glass filled with ice instead. I like my beer cold especially on a hot/warm day like today.

One of the things that should not be absent during market encounter is food. The aroma of cooked food fills the air. There were times that the number of food stalls are greater than any other stuff being sold. This time though, only a few food stands but still, the smell of food is unmistakable. I was there nearing lunch time so I have to will myself not to be tempted to buy.

These are just some of the things that really smell good. I had to avoid the other stalls else I can't help myself and purchase only to regret later on.

Finally, this called me loud and clear.

287246696_10159703918142850_8172140373291975042_n.jpg

I like to eat something spicy. I bought this one from a stall that sells artisanal meat. We did buy ham from them last time.

image.png

image.png

These dry hot sauces were not available last time. Natangsit (arrogant) is the spicier one. Bangad (stubborn) is the milder one. I am used of the liquid form of hot sauce. Is it still a sauce if it is dried? Isn't it supposed to be chili powder?

So there goes my scavenger hunt for this #MarketFriday. I didn't realize it's not as easy as I thought but it was fun.

Before I go, here are other photos that I took.

image.png

These mascots are entertain and delight the crowd. I haven't seen the green army this time. Maybe he was on a break. He is a mime that the crowd loves most.

This is the pavement drawing section. Anyone can participate. You don't have to draw. You can just write something and that's okay.

This Helen Shrimpton inspired mandalas are crochet artwork by Adelaida de Guia which have also been featured in local newspapers. Rug yarn was used to create these 120 inches in diameter mandalas.

Here are just some of the products sold along Session Road.

Aside from the soursop that I bought, I also bought some lansones at PHP100.00 (USD1.86) for half a kilo. I don't like the taste of this one and the texture though. It's not what I was used to. Some of the fruits/vegetables there were more pricey than those sold in the public market or sidewalk.

I was surprised to see a kiwi sapling being sold. Plants, seedling and sapling and gardening stuff are sold at the lower part of the road. This kiwi sapling costs PHP1,200.00 (USD22.32). Makes me want to grow kiwi seedlings and saplings too and maybe make a profit from those.

image.png

Entertainers just like this group of visually impaired are scattered throughout. There are buskers too. I didn't see dancers this time though.

So there goes my #MarketFriday. Have you been to the market? Then join this initiative by @dswigle. Post to the #MarketFriday community and post a link of your article in this latest post by @dswigle. Come and show us your market!

Also this is for #SublimeSunday by @c0ff33a and #BeautifulSunday by @ace108. This market encounter is held every Sunday so it is befitting for these initiatives. These are also opportunities for photography and photowalk.

All photos are mine.

The necklace was very much expensive and what animal tooth they use? And was it okay? Anyway I've been wanting to visit Baguio, as I wanted to see it's beauty.

Now that's a good question. I haven't asked. Maybe next time :) I hope you can come visit. As much as I wanted to recommend come visit on weekends to avoid the crowd, Sundays are good too to experience this :)

Oh, wow, the mandala-inspired crochet artworks are very cool! So nice. And the necklace is also nice you have in your hands. I would buy it for that price too.

Drawing on the pavement! I like it, I remember doing it in school when the teachers allowed us to draw on the pavement around school or in the schoolyard. 😇

Right? The time and energy and creativity in making those is unbelievable.

You are lucky. I never had that kind of experience growing up.

Quite a large variety of things peddled by different people on the street there.

You got that right. I like the variations though.

hi there! hehehe
You actually didn't meet the deadline for entering the contest on time - but I just saw this and I want to push it into the contest for tomorrow's curation and judging!!! hehehe That way more people can see this and enjoy the fun! hehehehehe

thank you for jumping in!

Come back for the final week for next week! cuz its going to be super fun in the final week! hehehehe

(watch out for my post today that will post in a few hours! heheheh)

Oh, thanks much for sharing :D I do like your challenges for the market Friday. I hope I can make it for the final week. Cheers!

Ang ganda tlga jan... Pinya lang sapat na 😁

Hehe true kaso di ako nakabili :D

Do people really like to wear those necklaces? xD

It made me smile when I saw that samosa is similar in your part of world too. :)

Yes but only a few who still wears them as accessory. Mostly though they are worn during presentations or events.

I think this was localized samosa version but I'm not really sure what the difference in taste like.

Mostly though they are worn during presentations or events.

very odd for me to know.

This is really cool and well detailed. The photos are epic! Nice one mate!

Thanks a lot for appreciating.
Have a good one!

Each necklace costs PHP5500.00 (USD102.31 as of this writing).

Wow kuya that is expensive! The kiwi sapling seems expensive too, but if you want to grow and sell then why not, I am sure you can make some cash!

I loved the viusally imparied entertainers, that was cool. Simply an awesome market and I could spend many an hour there browsing kuya!

I actually let go of that rather quickly when the seller told the price because I was holding it that time. I was afraid I might break it lol! Kiwi is not locally grown here and the fruits are expensive. There could be a market for kiwi sapling :D

There was one time where there were a lot more of them scattered throughout the area entertaining people. They even had a day dedicated for them one time where they offered massage services and they also had their own talent competition.

I wouldn't stay long there for I am an impulsive buyer, kuya lol!

Haha I bet I would be paranoid that I broke the necklace and would have gently put it down too!
I would spend a fortune there too, so a case of only taking so much money with me!

Lol!

I only bring what amount I want to spend :D

Great #marketfriday post! Those soursop look right up my street although I have never tried one.... never seen one except in photos either hehe. The market there has a wonderfully diverse array of goods to purchase. I love the mandala rugs - very cool! And the street art looks like a lot of fun 😍 I saw your post in Dreemport today !ALIVE !PIZZA

I love those mandalas too. They are just pretty to see.

Thanks so much for dropping by. Much appreciated!

i think i shall have to see if i can get one here in the UK !LOLZ

Why was it so easy for the scientist to learn how to make glass from lizards?

Great report! It looks like a great market to visit!

Indeed. It's one of the Sunday activities that I look forward to :) There's always something to be interested about.

Oh my! I love the scavenger hunt you did at the market, you got more than one sample for each search especially the prickly... It's hard to find prickly in the market 😅 maybe just the market I visit over here.

There are entertainers at your market place top, I thought it happens only here in my country... Really cool.

I had fun reading this, glad you made the post even though late 😊

Got here through @dreemport

I'm pretty sure there are more entries for each item if I took my time but it's always busy and lots of things to be distracted about just like the entertainers lol! I remember during the first few months of this Sunday market, there were less entertainers but now everyone is welcome to take part.

I like joining the challenge more for myself :D

Thanks so much for dropping by.

Hahaha the entertainers are indeed distractive to us who love what they do 😊
Well, it was nice having you join the challenge

On to the next challenge! :D

actually the treasure was the entirety of your post. I think you fully met the challenge. The prickly thing you showed was really prickly. Soursop is also my favorite fruit.

The beer was certainly something foamy and clear that it provokes on a hot day. I also like spicy but in its milder form, I think it would also be a kind of treasure to find it in that presentation, but I would prefer it without the skull hahaha.

Your photos were fascinating. especially the last ones, thanks for sharing them.

I came to you through Dreemport 😎😉.

I'm not liking the skull print as well. I think the skull was meant to be as a warning that it is indeed super spicy. However, it seems to have lost its spiciness when I used it again today. Now I'm not sure if I would recommend it lol!

Thank you for dropping by. Much appreciated!

Ah yes I imagined that the skull was for that hahaha. Hey, it's too bad that it has lost its spicy flavor. But have you tried it before? 🤪

It's my first time to try it. It was spicy at first with just a little bit of it but the succeeding ones are not.

It's a shame, but what you said is true, it's not a good recommendation then, better ones will come 😁😎

Yes, the hunt continues lol!

First of all, let me appreciate your photography skills, secondly, can these mascots be bubbly haha. Just random thinking.

Such diversity in culture, noticing the artwork in Baguio wow, what if I was allowed to write anything on the pavement drawing section I would write FREEDOM 🤣 haha kidding.

The weather is awesome, did rain happen here? Good to see such a marvellous entry,🥳🍫

Oh, thanks lot for appreciating. Much love!

One must have bubbly personality when you want to entertain and that's really a talent these mascots have :D

I believe FREEDOM was written last Sunday for it was the country's Independence Day. Some have just written their names there for selfie purposes hehe.

It did rain that's why I was quick to get out of there and go home.

Hehe spreading smiles on others' faces is difficult and you know they have sad life just masked from the world ( I interacted with a few personally)

Hehe, these days I have been making freedom as a joke in my family, that's why said so.

Don't you like to get wet in the rain, I love to do so but after this, I have to tolerate body pains hehe.

That's right. We don't know what goes on with other people's lives.

Oh, I see :)

I do like dancing in the rain when I was younger and we do that a lot but now, I easily get sick lol!

You obviously had a lot of fun at this market. I love pineapples, they are my best fruit. I love sour sop but they aren't very common in my country. The necklace with the animal teeth is very expensive and it looks very heavy. Not something I would love to put around my neck though😃. The aroma of food reminds me of our market over here, it's everywhere and draws you in its hard not to give in and buy. I can't do without buying some snacks at the market though. Great outing.

Now that you mentioned it, the necklace does look heavy but in actually it is not. It is pretty light and the lace is made of rattan. It is heavy on the pocket though because it's expensive lol! It's funny because at first I thought she meant USD100 per tooth lol!

Hahahaha! Oh my goodness. USD100 per tooth would drain anyone when there are about 20 teeth there. Anyways, I guess people who fancy a piece of animal in their dressing would love to buy it even though it's heavy on the pocket. 😉

True. There will always be those who have extra money to spend for such :D
