Market Friday - Down South Version

One cool thing about traveling is you get to check out things that you may not have in your own community. Being in the Market Friday tradition, this means stores! Yep I like out local market, but it never hurts to see what they have in other states.

For example, having gone to North Carolina now for several years, I have come to love Ingles! You can see their sign their on the far left. Funny thing is, even the parking lots are not level there. Such is life in the mountains, I suppose.

I would say the inside reminds me of a Kroger, well lit and stylish.

They sure have good deli fried chicken, mmm!

I was quite impressed with their collection of orchids for sale.

Some things just stay the same. I was surprised that their selection of paper items was pretty bleak!

One thing that I saw at several store down south that we do not see up north was bins of country ham. For those that have no idea about country ham, it is smoked

So between Food Lion and Ingles, I fell in love with them and sadly we dont have either here near us. I could not help but to always fill my cart!

Ah well such is life, we seem to never be able to have things just the way we want! Of course I want to thank @dswigle for making Market Friday great every week!

Most of Ingles' stores are located within 280 miles (450 km) of its warehouse located in Black Mountain, North Carolina. I liked it when I lived in North Carolina. They closed a couple of stores at the end of April, I am not sure why, but, like everyone else, I am sure they are trimming the fat.

Food Lion is a pretty good chain, but, I really like the Harris Teeter and Wegmans, and Whole Foods. I hope that you get at least one of them close to where you will be living. But, Food Lion was my place of choice in a few different locations. They were especially clean, but, they probably were newer stores. I love the new stores. It is like a new car, they just smell better. :))

I like smoked ham too and it is perfect for picnics. It doesn't spoil. You will have to get yourself a smoker too. I love our smoker and some days, putting on a brisket or other yummies for a slow smoke is amazing. Nice shots, especially those orchids! Did you see all those tomatoes!!

Now we are talking! I want to truly thank you for taking part in the #MarketFriday challenge! The entire challenge has migrated from a stroll through a market to a cultural extravaganza. ! It really surprised me, but, also delights me to know how much effort people put into it. It pointed out our differences in the beginning, but, then, it really started showing how many things our cultures share. When the day is done, it shows off how human we all are and how we basically all care about our families and others. I love the experience of it all. I appreciate the love and support given to #MarketFriday! Thank you! Truly! Your participation adds a piece of your world, and I have to say, people are interested in is seeing it. This entire challenge has opened up the world to me and so many others. Thank you again for being a part of all this! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I love the dried cured meats too. Yum. Delicious looking post, Paul:)

Ingles looks pretty fancy, somewhat like our Wegmans chain that started here in Rochester, NY, and is making its way south. We are still finding the supply chain a bit limiting with certain items here in the north too. For the most part, one of the big stores will have whatever we need.

Yeah I like to see some competition. We need to have more than just Walmart or Amazon :)

That’s an impressive looking store you found there ! It’s so easy to fill a trolley up in such a place lol
