Our animals also suffer. 14th day of the war in Ukraine

in Hive Pets2 years ago (edited)

Animals are silent victims of war. Like people. However, pets are helpless and completely dependent on their owner... People can often say words about their pain, ask for help or try to escape away from the war.
Today is the 14th day of the war in my country. Fortnight. It's hard for me to believe that. It is difficult for all of us. Destroyed cities, human life and nature.

During the evacuation from the town of Irpin, where the shelling took place and people sat for a long time in shelters without food and heat.

Thousands of residents of the eastern regions from the first war's days began to evacuate to the western part of the country or abroad. In Kharkiv alone, which is now half-destroyed, several million people lived. Some of the refugees left their pets at home and entrusted feeding to their neighbors. After all, the road can take several days, regardless of whether you drive your own car or train!! Dogs can be led on a leash and it is easier for them to go to the toilet, but cats are in trouble. They just go crazy in portable bags in a crowd of people.
Many people are evacuated by train. There are tens of thousands of people at our Lviv railway station every day. Sometimes cat bags open or break in the crowd and a cat disappears very quickly.

The refugees left this cat, although they were not in danger. Now she is looking for a home where she will not be betrayed. Photo from Facebook.

Another tragedy is when owners abandon their animals because they are going far abroad. It's hard for me to understand, my cats are my children !!! In the first days of the war, even the inhabitants of my city, where there is no fighting at the moment, began to flee en masse to Poland and leave their animals either on the street or with acquaintances. And one woman left 18 cats in a locked apartment! They were saved by the police and our zoo volunteers. On the Internet you can find tips on how to save a cat left in a closed apartment. Undoubtedly, these owners are just stupid people... I understand that they did it out of confusion and anxiety. Did they plan to return in a few days?

An example of true love. The girl carries her old dog across the border.

There are a lot of plots and stories now... These are tragic stories! There is another situation when refugees find temporary housing in a special center or apartment. And even then, their pets can run away. Cats are very attached to their habitat, they do not like strangers and noise!

Our neighboring countries help us a lot, because they allow us to cross the border with animals without a veterinarian passport. (But even crossing the border was incredibly difficult in the first days of the war...) Poles help us with food and take abandoned animals to their country!

I feel most sorry for the animals in the shelters that remained in the war zone. After all, if there are many of them, it is very difficult to transport them somewhere. Unfortunately, there are settlements from which it is impossible to evacuate people, because our enemies have no honor and dignity! They shoot civilians during the evacuation ...

The owner lost a cat... There are many such cases. But this photo on the man's back became popular in the Lviv Facebook. I wish him to find his pet.

Lviv residents have the opportunity to bring rescued animals to the Home of Rescued Animals. Previously, this organization dealt only with wild wounded animals and birds, but now they have made room for cats/dogs/rodents/parrots. Later, if the owner of the animal is not, it can be taken by anyone. And many homeless
animals are exported to Poland, where they are distributed among shelters and families.

War strengthens, emphasizes both the best and the worst qualities in people. And their attitude to animals, too. Some leave their pet at the first opportunity, while others go to the end and overcome great distances and various obstacles together with pets. I love my cats and dream of ending this horror sooner. That I did not have to make a choice.

My land is here, my home is here. I don't want to go anywhere. I want to travel and return to Ukraine, to my animals!

1646832309154-01.jpeg

At the beginning of the war, my friend found on the street a beautiful gray cat, probably purebred or a crossbreed of Russian blue. He stayed with me for a few days. Respectful, smart, calm. Since the owner was not found, we placed him in the family. Now the cat is getting used to the new situation and is a little worried.

And another story. A few days ago, my friend and I found a very bitten cat on the street. It turned out to be a gentle, tame domestic cat, strongly attached to humans. Apparently he either ran away or was abandoned. At the clinic, his wounds were treated, and one good guy agreed to take him on overexposure. The announcement of the search for the former owner did not bring success.
I hope this guy will be fine soon.

When you pet your dog, cat or other pet today, remember that nowadays some people (ie Russia) are waging war against other people and animals, against cities and nature itself.

Thanks for your support and comments! Stay with Ukraine!

Hi! You are so right - the pets are victims of war too!!! At the same time I do not dare to blame those who are forced to make these very painful steps - to leave their darlings... We live in Odessa region, and the war knocks to our doors and windows with rocket explossions. My wife and I we have 4 German Shepherd dogs. And our luck is that we do not want to run away and leave our land to invadors. And our brave dogs stay with us))) Wish peace and luck to everyone!

Thanks for your feedback!
My friend lives in Odessa. I was there on vacation many times. I am very worried about this region, about the whole sunny South.
And you and your wife are great! I wish you and your dogs be safe and peace.

It's wonderful that you are helping the pets affected by war - and I love the story of the girl carrying her dog, is there more about that one? We need some happy news!

Thanks for your feedback!
All I know about this girl is that she carried her dog 17 km!
And here is another heroine. This girl is trying to evacuate disabled dogs from a shelter in the small town of Irpin, where hard fighting is taking place.

Beautiful your soul @lilideleopolis. Thank you for raising the voice of all pets and all animals suffering from war. This is the opportunity to adopt pets, a call for those who don't have pets and want one.

Thank you, I agree with you. Recently, a lot of people (I mean Ukrainians) take home abandoned and homeless animals! And we have incredible support from neighboring countries! So those animals that managed to leave the hot spot have a chance for a normal life ...

It's admirable the work you are doing, I have a friend here on Hive @priyanarc who has suffered a lot with her dog but she was able to flee Ukraine for Poland together with him. But there are other pets who are not as lucky and it is good when they meet animal loving people who help them. Thank you for this kind of publications, they are very valuable first hand updates.

Abandoning 18 cats in an apartment....the only explanation I can find is that people under severe stress are no longer thinking properly . A pet is like a child, I remember when my cat died, I suffered terribly. So abandoning an animal is really something I can't understand. But again...a war puts people in desperate situations...

I don't understand that either... Well, in the case of 18 cats, their owner (an old woman) just begged to be released them and was very worried.
War is just evil ..... which has no place in the 21st century.

It's really a cruel situation. Animals suffer as much as people.
I wish you all the best and I hope this war will end soon!

Thanks for your warm words and support!

I feel the same way about our pets; they are part of the family. Even in hard times, we should make it a point to care for them and feed them. I'm happy to hear that there are people doing good things for these abandoned cats and dogs. Stay safe and keep doing good for others.

@lilideleopolis is there a way to support these animals or any charity that focuses on animals? if you're managing one, let me know.

Thank you, a lot of food comes from abroad every day for animals in the war zone. Volunteers deliver aid to both people and animals. In addition, evacuations to safer places are ongoing. However, our enemies are terrorists and during the "green corridors" they often shoot at people, and with them animals!
Thank you for your care!!
The only help we need:

  1. For NATO to close the skies over Ukraine. (Please ask your government to do this)
  2. For someone to kill Putin...:(((

@lilideleopolis in behalf of hive pets and the team, we feel saddened of what happened there. We pray to your safety and we have sent a few hive tips. We hope that would help especially for the abandoned pets that you come across.

Many thanks for your support and good word. It's really important for me and for all our people and animals ❤️❤️❤️

I hope the animals can protect themselves

Thanks for your support! I hope too...

You're welcome

I wish all of this end real soon
