"Because it's there..." - Part 1 (Dreem-WoTW S2 R3)
Present Day:
The gear turned, interlaced with another, and another. His eyes traced the inner workings of the machine to the place where the light shone. Garth's analytical mind shattered as his heart started pounding in his chest as he gazed into the light.
Year: 4,492 BC
Na'amah gazed at the beautiful rays of sunlight coming from the Eastern horizon. She loved this time of the morning. It was quiet, and she could think full thoughts as she went to the river to collect water for the day. She was never in a hurry to get inside to start on the chores for the day.
On her way home, Na'amah caught site of her neighbor Amna and wandered over to see if she had any exciting news. Amna waved and smiled at Na'amah, happy to see her good friend this morning.
The friends sat comfortably together on the boulder while exchanging morning pleasantries. Amna's face showed concern as she turned to Na'amah, asking her if Noah, Na'amah's husband, was still planning on building his ark. Her friend replied that he was. The wood should be coming this week, and the building will start. She explained that he only had a short time to build and prepare the ark for sailing the sea.
Amna gave her friend a hug. Na'amah looked closely at Amna, wishing she could invite her with them onto the ark once the storm came, but it was not to be. Na'amah, after a great talk with her friend Amna, left for home, but on her way, she prayed that Amna and her family could be spared from the coming flood.
Na'amah's prayer was intercepted by one of the Watchers, Muffin, to be exact.
It always interested her how mankind could kill each other yet at the same time love just as deeply.
The Watchers, Muffin, and Steve, assigned to cover Noah and his every move, had gotten to know Amna and her family over the years. They had grown quite fond of them. That night Muffin and Steve had a long talk. They devised a brilliant idea to save Amna and her family if the Counsel of Watchers approved. They were not really worried. The Counsel was run by Steve's Mom.
A few days later, with the councils' approval, Muffin and Steve started to stake out the area with unique homing stones from their planet around the area of Amna's home. Muffin, never paying attention in Mathematics class, might have made a few errors in measuring when placing the stones. When asked by Steve if all was precisely in place, Muffin huffed and said it was just as it should be.
Muffin and Steve were called home by the Council of Watchers so they would be safe from the floods. From their home planet, the two watched the rains come. After a week, they knew it was time to protect Amna and her family. Grabbing the homing stone, they walked to the area on their planet, all set up to receive Amna's family home.
What happened next is still a mystery as to why things went as they did. Some theories are that the head Chef did not appreciate others messing with their plans and took matters into their own hands. Another theory was Muffin's math was so off that more of Earth was ripped out than intended. Upsetting the balance of the rules of the Universe.
Either way, the result was a whole new planet was made.
The head Chef, already upset with mankind, washed his hands of the disaster Muffin and Steve had now created right after telling the Council of Watchers they best take outstanding care of his people or else! The Council of Watchers gave the new planet all the comforts of its home planet. They set up schools and laws, and the thousands of people ripped from Earth started a new life. A good life. Except...
Muffin and Steve might have left a few of their planet's homing stones on the new world. Over time the powers of the stone(s) seeped into the water and food. One of those powers being you could see who your soulmate was just by looking at them.
Present Day: New Earth
Garth was a history buff. He loved hearing the old stories about how his world was formed. Garth was among the lucky few to have found a piece of the original homing stone(s). He had gone to school for Astronomy and now founded and ran the newest school teaching Astronomy.
If you ever wanted to find Garth, all you had to do was look on the school's top floor, walk up two hundred and twenty-seven stairs, and find him looking through the glass of his latest invention, the Dillywopperdopler. If you ever had a chance to look over Garth's shoulder, you would see the machine was always pointed at Old Earth. What Garth was looking for no one ever knew until today.
When Garth looked into the glass and saw Sarah falling into the ravine, his soul screamed. He had finally found his soulmate just as she was plummeting to her death. Garth watched her hit bottom. His chest stopped moving until he noticed her breathing. He also knew he had little time to save her before she froze to death and life stopped having meaning.
Growing up, he had heard rumors of others using homing stones to visit Old Earth. Nothing had ever been proven, though. It was just rumored and passed down for thousands of years. Garth was willing to take the chance. It was all he had.
Reaching into his pocket, Garth brought out a tiny pickaxe. Crawling up on top of the Dillywopperdopler, Garth reached inside the machine with the little pickaxe and gave the oldest homing stone left a slight tap. A piece the size of his little fingernail popped off and landed in his hand.
Without thinking twice, Garth made a fist and felt the stone dig deep into his palm. With all his soul, he repeatedly yelled, "TAKE ME TO HER!". The top of the newly built school shook as Garth disappeared. The top of the ravine shook as Garth landed right on top of Sarah at the bottom.
Sarah and Garth's souls could be seen rising together, intermingling, and becoming one. It was beautiful as it danced off the ravine's shakey walls in full sunlight.

Thank you!!! I have to say this story was one the hardest I ever had to work at making it 'fit'. at certain points in the night while writing it I had No idea where or how I was going to get them in the same place. loll
But for Sam it was going to have a happy ending! Okay me too...... I dislike sad endings. :D

I freaking love it!!! Only YOU, Snook... only YOU could have done that with the story. My heart is full. Sarah did not die alone and she has Garth for eternity 💗... and I had no idea that all that chaos was gonna be caused by 2 munchkins making mistakes with their calculations and p*ssing off the head chef hahaha. That little piece about Steve's mom was so funny too... I could imagine the scene. An amusing take on Noah's Ark and the consequences of the flood. I thought for a moment that Sarah was going to find the Ark... but this ending was soooo much better than I could have imagined. Thank you @snook. I love you. Truly. Thank you! Oh Sam, You have no idea how happy I am to hear you like what I wrote!! I know not a thing about climbing LOLL After I read your first part I was like OMGosh what in the world am I going to do with THAT?
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I was stumped. But I knew it had to end happily.....
and the first part about Garth wrote itself.....I knew he found Sarah.... but I also knew he was on a different planet so had had to come up with a way to get him there.......
Then I finally had time to write and I didn't want to let you down so......
I even did research! and I never do that. LOLL
Thank YOU for letting me be part of your story. By the end of writing, I fell in love with Sarah and Garth. and did not want to let them down either.

I am extremely new to reading your short stories, however can see the underlying personable traits that you hold dear, you are a person of love, despite the darkness portrayed through certain death, you turned it into love conquering all, fates redefined, survival. What a ride! I read Sam's part of the story (@samsmith1971 ) and was eager to see how part two was going to unfold, knowing that there's going to be a different author (and style). This second part was like a rendez-vous with the Galactic Federation and author Dolores Cannon (hint: "The Three Waves of Volunteers and the New Earth"). The soulmate finale is like the icing on the cake.
