Independientemente del país desde el cual me estes leyendo, en algún momento el ritmo de las actividades escolares entra al receso vacacional y es en este periodo donde los niños y jóvenes realizan actividades de disfrute y diversión sin asignaciones escolares.
Es donde salían de paseo, se reunían en fiestas con sus amigos y había planes vacacionales ofrecidos con distintas características.
Actualmente la situación es otra por la pandemia en la que vivimos, estamos cumpliendo las funciones académicas en casa y si bien es cierto que hay que darles un descanso a nuestros hijos de tantas tareas, considero que no tenemos las mismas circunstancias de antes y no deberíamos dejar de reforzar lo que hemos trabajado académicamente con ellos durante mucho tiempo.
En Venezuela el periodo vacacional abarca aproximadamente 2 meses e incluso para los jóvenes en bachillerato es un poco mas y pienso que estar todo este tiempo sin tener una continuidad en las actividades académicas pudiese contribuir a un retroceso de lo que se supone asimilado por el estudiante.
Hello my hivelovers, on this occasion I want to share with you about the topic of vacations, referring to the fact that our children here in Venezuela have entered the school vacation period and that is when I ask myself, do vacations exist within homeschooling?
Regardless of the country from which you are reading me, at some point the rhythm of school activities enters the holiday break and it is in this period where children and young people perform activities of enjoyment and fun without school assignments.
It is where they would go on outings, gather at parties with their friends and there were vacation plans offered with different characteristics.
Currently the situation is different because of the pandemic in which we live, we are fulfilling academic functions at home and while it is true that we have to give our children a break from so much homework, I consider that we do not have the same circumstances as before and we should not stop reinforcing what we have worked academically with them for a long time.
In Venezuela the vacation period covers approximately 2 months and even for young people in high school is a little more and I think that being all this time without having a continuity in academic activities could contribute to a setback of what is supposed to be assimilated by the student.

Hoy quisiera compartir contigo ciertas estrategias que pretendo aplicar con mis hijos en casa durante este periodo donde estamos en vacaciones dentro del sistema educativo formal:
• Asignar por lo menos tres días a la semana para reforzar actividades enfatizando en aquellas donde se ha presentado un poco mas de dificultad, así no estaran todos los días estudiando pero no perdemos la continuidad.
• Utilizar espacios de esparcimiento para reforzar conocimientos, por ejemplo, mi hijo se encuentra en el proceso de lectura y estoy incorporando a nuestras rutinas cuentos que leemos, luego escuchamos el audio y conversamos sobre este pero de una manera dinámica y divertida, como un entretenimiento mas que como asignación académica. Allí estamos reforzando la lectura y comprensión de la misma
• Realizar un calendario de deberes en casa, porque el hecho de estar de vacaciones no es razón para que dejen de realizar sus deberes y participen activamente en las labores de mantenimiento del hogar
• Escucha activa y tiempo de calidad, ahora como ya no tienen tantas asignaciones pues es necesario dedicarles tiempo de calidad donde padres nos dediquemos a escucharles, a dejar que se expresen y a comprenderlos al compartir con ellos actividades que les agraden
• Establecer límites con el uso de los dispositivos electrónicos, lo ideal es asignar ciertas horas y propiciar que se cumpla, no es dejarlos todo el dia en el celular, la Tablet o la computadora jugando ya que como bien sabemos no es saludable para ellos y puede favorecer conductas adictivas que luego pueden ser difíciles de controlar
• Dejar salir nuestro niño interior, vamos a divertirnos con nuestros hijos, dejemos aflorar nuestros juegos y risas a carcajadas disfrutando con ellos, no olvidemos que dentro de todos nosotros aun esta ese niño o niña que fuimos y que precisamente en estos momentos es cuando podemos aprovechar de que salga a divertirse.
Que estas vacaciones sigan fortaleciendo nuestra educación en casa, esa que nos ha tocado académicamente ahora llevar adelante con nuestros hijos y aquella que nunca acaba la que forjamos de valores y amor.
As parents we must achieve a balance, in which our children are given the space for recreation but the habit of study at home already acquired is not lost and there is some continuity in this aspect.
Today I would like to share with you certain strategies that I intend to apply with my children at home during this period where we are on vacation within the formal education system:
- Assign at least three days a week to reinforce activities emphasizing those where there has been a little more difficulty, so they will not be every day studying but we do not lose continuity.
- Use recreational spaces to reinforce knowledge, for example, my son is in the process of reading and I am incorporating into our routines stories that we read, then we listen to the audio and talk about it but in a dynamic and fun way, as an entertainment rather than as an academic assignment. There we are reinforcing reading and comprehension.
- Making a homework schedule at home, because the fact of being on vacation is not a reason for them to stop doing their homework and actively participate in the maintenance of the home.
- Active listening and quality time, now that they no longer have so many assignments, it is necessary to dedicate quality time where parents dedicate themselves to listen to them, to let them express themselves and to understand them by sharing with them activities that they enjoy.
- Establish limits with the use of electronic devices, the ideal is to assign certain hours and encourage compliance, it is not to leave them all day on the cell phone, Tablet or computer playing because as we know it is not healthy for them and can encourage addictive behaviors that can be difficult to control later on.
- Let our inner child come out, let's have fun with our children, let our games and laughter come out, enjoying with them, let's not forget that inside all of us there is still that little boy or girl that we were and that it is precisely at this time when we can take advantage of them to go out and have fun.
That these vacations continue to strengthen our education at home, the one that has touched us academically now carry forward with our children and the one that never ends, the one that we forge of values and love.

Staying engaged is important for the little ones for sure, but I didn’t realize how important it is until this year. We need to make them still learn things but at the same time don’t spend too much time on academics. They need to have things they remember but also enjoy lots of play time so that’s a tough balance!
Here in our country school vacation is two months. I think school vacation in my country (as of now) is not that enjoyable as compared before the pandemic because students are not attending school campuses.

The trick certainly should be to reinforce in a way that feels like fun still. That way they still feel like it's a vacation.
