Discord; Ecency; What Should We Be Using on Hive?

in #hive2 years ago

I posed a couple of questions on Threads earlier, but I thought I'd write a post to get some tips here about how best to use Hive and the myriad options out there…

Source

First Up - Primary Front End?

Other than the individual tribes and communities, the main options I'm aware of are hive.blog, PeakD and Ecency.

Hive Blog is the classic and what we all know and 'love' from the Steem(it) days. It's basic but 'clean' and you know what you're getting. PeakD is a better platform with more features and better UX. Probably more user friendly and interesting. Ecency is its own beast and looks great, I just haven't used it much (occasionally the mobile app which generally works well). I'm actually writing this in Ecency to mix it up a bit.

What do you think, and have I missed something?

Discord

I used to use Discord a bit, albeit not that much or effectively and not for a while. The main reason was taking time away from other things and the sheer volume of stuff going on. I do feel I'm missing out on a fair bit of action there that could be both fun and useful. A great place for info and to build relationships, I should really get in amongst it.

How best to use it? And should a lot of the stuff there be moved on chain, or perhaps a happy combo of both?

Guide for New Users

And finally, where do you tend to send new Hive users?

So whether they haven't joined yet and just want a sniff around, or have recently joined and want to get involved but not sure where to start or how best to continue.

I know there are many resources, articles, guides, videos and more scattered around, but a coherent place people can get their teeth into. Not techie; simple, concise, clear.

Whilst we're at it - resources for blockchain and crypto in general as it really isn't widely understood.

That's about it for today. I'm still learning a lot of this stuff myself plus more people are slowly having a look and it would be good to direct them to quality info as well as get these types of questions answered and give guidance.

Cheers all!

I use Hive.blog, Peakd, and LeoFinance. I keep them all open at the same time in my browser, here's why

  1. Sometimes when viewing articles on my feed, clicking on articles made with Peakd automatically redirect me to Peakd. In that case I just follow along and read it on Peakd.

  2. I love being on LeoFinance. But, many times when the notification bell shows me I have a message, the interface doesn't show me the notification message. In that case I have to use Peakd and Hive.blog to check and read the message, even though the message was made with LeoFinance.

  3. I also use Peakd to get a perfect view of Communities.

  4. Hive.blog, I use it when trying to get the real feel of the Hive. And I feel using it will automatically give me an upper hand whenever I decide to use the sisters of Hive i.e Steem and Blurt.

Note: My points might be subjective coz I mainly use Hive on my smartphone and it is a low end Android 11 Go device.

Thank you.

Thanks for the detailed comment! We all have our preferences and a combination of front ends is probably the answer for most people currently. There are pros and cons to each, and it also depends on how you're viewing/using them as you say (smartphone, computer etc)

Thank you for understanding me 😀.
