We need to figure out our message to the crypto community.

in #hive2 years ago

Over the last few days I have had a few random thoughts rolling around in my brain about Hive and the ecosystem. Game ideas, marketing ideas, strategy ideas.

It can be overwhelming sometimes wanting to figure out how we can properly give attention to our niche community. How can we make people see Hive how we see it?

Sadly, I don't have the answer but I do want to figure it out.

One couple important focuses (for me) would be connecting accounts to outside wallets.

Second, we need to figure out how to normalize crypto projects posting announcements on Hive. Crypto Twitter gets a lot of attention but I don't understand how we haven't been able to capture this market.

Third: Ability to sell Hive for other cryptos seamlessly is just as important as making it easy for people to buy it. Allow and normalize crypto projects posting on hive, cashing out rewards, and buying the crypto of their choice. We could literally build bridges and capture markets. FOR INSTANCE: Last time I took money out of the Ronin (Axie) ecosystem, it cost me $80 in ETH to do so. There's no reason why we couldn't have figured out a bridge to have assets on both sides and reduce that cost to users. You could easily rake in profits with such high margin and you wouldn't have to have that much in assets on either side, you could just combine a few transactions here and there. Users could post Axie content, cash out Hive, pay a fee to have those assets accessible to them on their Ronin wallet and the Hive protocol could literally profit more in the transaction then they lose in the person selling the Hive. Hmm. Maybe I should get with some coders and put together a proposal.

Fourth: Allow "mining" of Hive to people just posting here for the rewards. Stop discouraging people that are not all-in on Hive to use it for their own gains as long as that content is quality and adds value (even if that individual user is taking out their rewards from it).

If a celebrity with a million followers started posting content on Hive are we really going to be upset if they are able to bring even a portion over? These people built a brand and a following and are able to leverage that community for their own benefit. If we don't encourage this, we are only shooting ourselves in the foot.

These are just a couple random thoughts I wanted to get out there.

What do you think?

Sort:

I keep thinking that we should try to bring OpenBazaar in and show that this platform could fund through the proposal system and just the curation community as well.

Wouldn't that sound like a great match for a fast and free tx blockchain/ market platform?

There are so much more we can do with free transactions.

I agree with everything in this post - a lot of good thoughts. Being able to send to other wallets is crucial for adoption. Eliminate barriers to entry for the less knowledgeable. I honestly thought this was a no brainer when I signed up, it's the way social media should be.

I'm looking forward to seeing what #projectblank brings to the table with leofinance.

I think the answer is a "vanilla" hive where you sign up with email and everything is super basic and you "unlock" things as you progress. Once you get to a certain point you can access full custody of your account with keys if you so choose.

Basically you can start off with a generated account name of random characters but have a "display" name used on front ends.

I just can't get behind huge pushes for more users without a more simplified and intuitive onboarding process.

Could you imagine if you could link an outside wallet and set it as your preferred payment? Like your payouts get auto claimed and automatically swapped to the crypto of your choice with a small fee paid to the Hive ecosystem?

I have also started to think ways to spread Hive for more people and maybe bring more content creators to here.

Many people think that Hive can replace all the web2 platforms like youtube and twitter but if we be real we know that is almost impossible but we can be important for the content creatores even if they start publish here as a secondary platform.
In the future they can see that Hive is maybe better than the other and close the other platforms accounts and focus here but we cannot think that will happen soon they barely join the Hive.

Other that I think we can try to do is talk with some crypto projects that uses Medium or Substack to publish the projects announcements and start to doing using Hive. This would allow many people around the world to start hearing about Hive and even create some curiosity to understand how it works.

In my last post talk about Hive I shared thi opinion but unfortunately I dont have almost no feedback about it.
To do something like this, talk with projects to start to use Hive, I think we need some community support...

There was a time back in the Steem days when Medium was considering switching to #Hive because of the zero tx fees. I've seen people complaining about that lately too. Doesn't seem sustainable. That would be so good for both projects.

Engagement on Hive is terrible. People just want to publish and profit, but the platform needs engagement. People don't seem to appreciate that engagement is the fastest way to grow on here. It is social media after all.

I never knew that about Medium, that's interesting.

I am not from Steem days but from I know (can be wrong) it was too easy to get high rewards in Steem just publishing something with enough quality.

If this is true I think people are just doing what they used to do and it won't be easy to change that in my opinion.

However I completely agree with you and I think there needs to be more engagement between people on Hive since this is a social network but if we are cold to analyze maybe people don't do that because most of the votes are automatic votes in which people don't even read the content of posts even when it comes from whale votes.

This makes it enough for people to simply post and receive automatic votes = profit.

If the whales start taking into account, for example, the number of comments made on Hive to give these automatic votes, maybe a lot of people would lose those votes and they would realize that they need to interact more with people.

I know that the ocd, in the manual curation, is taking this into account.
A good post only has their vote if the person interacts in the community but just one whale doing this is not enough to change the entire community behaviour.
