Is Hive ready for Primetime - Layer 2 Solutions, Legos with no Instructions

in #hive7 months ago

I greatly appreciate the comments on the first video, and I've taken them all into consideration.

That being said, I want us to be able to think of "how we fix it". How can a new implementation of a tech we already have, or one that we are going to have soon (VSC) can help us break out into the mainstream.

Here's the deal. We've been kneecapped from the beginning. The ninja-mine did a number on the legacy chain, and it prevented "real investment" from ever touching us. But that is the past, soon a decade would have gone by and we need to get rid of that stigma once and for all.

I'm going to talk to @ecoinstant about scheduling a show just for this conversation. How do we attract the right people, how do we retain them here, engaged.

Is layer 2 the way to go. How can a Community assure value for their token? Is it even possible?

I realize we are all about giving people legos, letting them build their own thing, their own masterpiece. But the truth is that most people suck at legos, and a good instruction manual always comes in handy.

Cheers my friends.

A clear blueprint would definitely help onboard more people. Giving communities the tools is great, but without guidance, many won’t know where to start. Looking forward to where this discussion leads Meno
Nice one

Assigning actual value to a layer 2 token is hard. I don't think any of them have managed it yet. At least in the mid to long term. But it could be the key

Both EDSI and SPI are asset backed and have assigned values.
EDSI is relatively easy because each EDSI is backed by 1 HIVE in the @eddie-earner wallet. If the token was liquidated tomorrow, each token holder would receive a proportion of the wallet commensurate with their EDSI holdings.

SPI is asset backed and the value of each token varies week by week depending on what is happening to each of the thirty or so assets held. However, if SPI was liquidated, all assets would be sold and the proceeds distributed to token holders according to the SPI holdings.

Yeah, that's right there are a few that are asset backed and legit in that respect. I probably meant more of the ones that were issued as rewards or for some kind delegation. They almost inevitably travel downward

this is the puzzle piece we need to come up with my friend.

Yup, totally agree

I'm in!

I think we need people with a lot of followers elsewhere to be talking about (and using) Hive. I guess they would be called influencers, but I don't really like that word much. If we chase them away then we lose, but then I don't think anyone should feel that they should be earning more than others. Unlike elsewhere it's not just down to how many followers you have. It's a tricky balance and we have yet to get it right.

the word influencer is charged. I'll grant you that. I think of that dude doing ice-baths and pretending to be closing a 10k deal on the phone.

But, a musician is an influencer. We used to have a successful musician on chain, one from Australia. He had a big following. Lost him too.

I think it's what a lot of kids aspire to these days, but only a few will really make it. I don't want to be under pressure to 'create content' to satisfy sponsors and feed some algorithm.

Music is one area where Hive ought to do well given how hard it can be to earn from it. You can combine social media with traditional performance and recording.

For layer 2 tokens to have value in my opinion, there needs to be a seamless way for users to enter and exit the token. They can’t rely on old school ways of thinking like “let’s get listed on exchanges”. This is where having the ability for decentralized token swaps between the layer 2 tokens, Hive/HBD, and bitcoin will be key. If we can get to bitcoin in a seamless way, than that opens the floodgates to everything and we won’t be on a liquidity island anymore. I think VSC is working to solve that as well the smart contract platform that block trades has discussed a while back.

a one click liquidity pool exchange kind of thing. I agree. It has to be stupid proof. Normies need not fear it.

Click here to send funds to your bank, almost.

I'm not sure I am talking about the same thing, but I think v4v already provides for swapping with BTC.

Yes, that sure will be part of the solution. But before that, before swapping for BTC.

Why would, lets say, Shanibeer token be valuable?

What would drive demand for Shanibeer token?
