More Hivers, less minnows

in #hive2 years ago

Since this account last posted over a month ago the number of minnows has dropped a little. We have seen some we support graduate, but others must be powering down. We have been stuck around 8500 for a while now.

Meanwhile Hive has thousands of new accounts who have joined to play @splinterlands. Unfortunately a lot of those are unlikely to get into the social side, but with such numbers we ought to gain a significant number who will blog and comment, even if it is only about the game.

If we want people to stick around we need to give them some support, but they should have to earn it will good content and engaging comments. A lot of the big accounts will do well regardless of what they post and will not suffer if they get less votes, so why not support some of the smaller fish instead? It will mean a lot more to them when they make an extra dollar.

If you are a new Hive user then a lot of the pressure is on you to build a following if you want to succeed. By all means make use of the various schemes that will give you extra tokens or votes, but it is humans who will make the experience fun. Find those who share your interests and comment on their posts. Join communities that are about actual topics you enjoy rather than fighting for votes in a general one. It will make your Hive experience far more enjoyable and make you want to keep coming back.

Hive is made of people.

Hive five!

I am a minnow and I've been trying so well to graduate from it but I guess I can't really do that on my own except I get some support from the big fishes here.

I hope I keep the inspiration on to connect with others like I've been doing to grow my account from being a minnow... It's a kinda long from where I see it 🤔 but I'll keep moving for sure.

Thanks for this post

It looks like you are doing the right things. Keep it up!

Thanks, I'll continue for sure

I am glad to say that I graduated to dolphin, but I think a lot of people are probably powering down due to financial chaos in the world right now. It seems like with our globalized economy, there isn't anywhere untouched. That's actually one of the things I like about Hive and hope it can become for everyone - a safety net of sorts.

We each have our own needs. I have no issue with people cashing out if they need to. Hive can help them out. We just need those who can afford it to keep powering up.

It will come ;) users need time to learn what many of us already know for years.

This sounds like good advice. I've only been here a couple of months and I just post about photography at the moment. If I go out and get some good photos, then I write about it, and hopefully the content is enjoyable for others. :)

Hive has a few photography communities and I hope those can grow. peakd is pretty good for viewing images. We need to talk to others about Hive to let them know it's an option for showing off their work.

Definitely! It's quite hard to even explain Hive to people though. I showed a friend yesterday, and they couldn't grasp that people weren't paying with their own money to up vote posts.

It's a bit of work to get going at the onset, and this is probably a barrier for some people who already have busy lives and don't have the time to find their way around a new platform.

Hive has got easier over the years. Early on you had to host photos yourself on other sites. Looks like Keychain make it easy to log in. People just have to understand a few concepts about why it is different to other platforms. What we need is a bigger audience so they consider it is worth posting here to be seen as well as paid. Some of us have never been paid by other platforms.

Hopefully at some point Hive will reach a critical mass.

I think it's amazing that one can earn just by participating on a social network... :)

I think people are more into staking Hive in the bear cycle because it's not worth it to sell Hive at very low prices

People each have their own motivation. Some want any money they can make, but others are prepared to invest and wait. You really cannot generalise. What is considered a low price may vary.

Idk man.

Maybe some people are content playing Splinterlands and ignoring the so called “social” aspect altogether.

It’s silly to assume everyone wants to engage with the “content” on here.

As I said, not all will be social, but out of hundreds of thousands some will. It's a numbers game. It's easy to dismiss a lot of the content, but there are actual 'gems' here and encouraging the good people will help bring in more.

Cynicism is cheap :)

Hive five too 🖐

I think the monetary system promotes lack of interaction. As everyone wants to be a creator!

But you can earn as a commenter or curator too! Engaging with people will earn and just pumping out posts may not build much of an audience unless you are something really special. Your choice!

That's true, but people are greedy. Hopefully, with a lot of new members without the huge Hive power backing, they will engage more.

With more people on Hive they will have to work harder to earn those big votes. There are only a few whales :) This is why we want to see people build up their accounts so they can spread the rewards wider. Greed is inevitable, but earning is not.

Hive five☺️
