My first HiveFest experience

in #hivefest2 years ago (edited)

I’ve been reading all these nice stories from HiveFest this year, and I finally managed to put together mine. If you haven’t attended HiveFest yet, try to do you best to attend next year as it’s an event that all of us should experience. I was anxious for many days before the event and believe me when I say that it was for nothing. I had the best time, learned new things, met many amazing people, and made new friends!

We arrived in Amsterdam on Thursday at 1 AM after a long drive from Switzerland when we spent almost 2 hours in a traffic jam. I was working on Thursday from the hotel room as I couldn’t get a day off and I was also worrying all day about the opening drinks. I was afraid that it would be weird, and I would feel uncomfortable among so many new people. I was talking to @zirochka during the day and she agreed to meet me in the lobby of Volkshotel which made me feel much better.

My husband dropped me off at the hotel ensuring me that all would be good, and I would have a lot of fun. I hoped he was right.

I entered the hotel and as soon as I saw @zirochka I knew I will have a fabulous time. She jumped out of her chair and hugged me the way you hug your family! I was so thrilled to meet her! All my worries were gone, and the event could start for me. She introduced me to @arcange who wouldn’t stop smiling during entire HiveFest. And it was not that kind of a fake smile that makes your face hurt. It was a genuine infectious smile that would make you smile back.

Once I picked up my badge, I met with sweet @brittandjosie. She has such a positive personality and is a delightful company. Sadly, we couldn’t say goodbye to each other as her child became sick and she wasn’t able to join the closing dinner on Sunday.

I also met @bil.prag who I’ve been talking to for a long time on chain and was really glad to meet in real life. I was happy to meet @oleg326756 who I know from my early days on Hive but haven’t heard from him in such a long time. I didn't expect to meet him there, so it was a pleasant surprise. Later, he also introduced me to his lovely fiancé @n2foodadventure and her sister.

I spent a long time talking to @tdctunes with whom we clicked instantly. I also met his wife and his adorable son aka spider-man! I wish we could spend more time together. I also had an interesting discussion with @elmerlin about his @liketu project.

The biggest surprise of the first evening for me was @awildovasquez - a newbie on Hive who comes from Dominican Republic and lives in Slovakia with his wife and three sweet daughters. He even speaks Slovak! He promised to teach me some salsa moves (I’m still waiting for those lessons) and we talked about his life in my home country. We will plan the first Hive meetup in Slovakia together!

Next day, the conference started with a cup of coffee and pastries. After that I enjoyed the presentations as well as I enjoyed the breaks. I must admit that I was excited to talk to all these interesting people from various parts of the world with various backgrounds. I finally met @soyrosa who greeted me as her old friend, which was so sweet, and @livinguktaiwan who is such a badass successful woman on chain.

I’ve talked to @martibis about his life in Georgia and now I know where we will stay with my husband when we go on vacation there. I met my dear @sjarvie5 who planned to visit more museums during her time in Amsterdam than physically possible and her brother @jarvie who is such a cool and fun guy.

I also enjoyed my time with Portuguese huggers @pardinus and @xrayman, and admired Gandalf's @gtg hair which is so much better than mine (I didn't tell him that!) When I talk about hair I have to mention @tibfox. I didn’t get to talk to him, but I was impressed with his style! Hope to get to talk to him next time.

The day passed by quickly and suddenly there was the game and dinner time. Long story short, our dream team ‘Ladies of Hive’ lost the competition. But it didn’t matter as the evening was great!

Saturday was full of interesting presentations, but my highlight again were people. What a surprise! 😊 I got to know @blind-spot better. We didn’t get to really meet earlier, so we took some time together to talk about so many things. And I loved his bear hugs! He is such a sweet guy. I hope to meet him and @priyanarc soon. We plan to show them around the south of the country and take them to some places that we love.

I have enjoyed my discussion with @therealwolf about Germany and its culture, @lemouth about his science work, @artakush to whom I have to send names of places that sell vegan yogurt so that he can prepare a vegan version of cold beetroot soup, @rollie1212 who lives in Prague which will always have a special place in my heart, @solymi who suggested a house at the lake Balaton for holidays (I may act on this offer), @growandbow who might be the most open-hearted person that I know, @mynewlife with his funny Slovak words and @lordbutterfly who is truly passionate about the Freechain movie.

After the conference day, we went for dinner with @zirochka, @sjarvie5 and @livinguktaiwan. We enjoyed a delicious 5 course menu, laughed a lot, and at the end of the evening we had a shot of orange liqueur (made from orange peel scraps) with the owner of the restaurant. I think he had the best time of all of us as he had a shot with each customer who was leaving the restaurant 🙂

Fun fact: I found a pack of cigarettes in my car when we arrived home in Switzerland. I told @zirochka and it turns out it's hers! Now, she has to come to Switzerland to pick it up 🙂 Or I'll bring it to her when I visit Kyiv one day again.

We woke up late on Sunday, enjoyed breakfast, packed in our luggage and checked out from the hotel. As it was raining, we stayed a bit in the lobby and then went shopping.

The closing dinner was a blast, but it was just too short. I couldn’t make it for the closing drinks, so sadly I didn’t get to say goodbye to many of my new friends.

I have tried my best to tag all of you (hope you don't mind) but if you didn't find your name, please let me know in the comments and I will correct it asap.

There are so many people that I didn’t get to talk to as 4 days are simply not long enough, so I can’t wait for next year’s HiveFest to get to know more of you.

I would like to thank everyone who made it to the event this year. I really had a great time with my virtual family! My special ‘THANK YOU’ to @roelandp without whom this would not be possible.

I didn’t think it would be such a long post, so thank you if you made it up to here. I appreciate it!

PS: Another special Thank you to everyone who talked to my anti-crypto husband. You got him hooked up! He has already figured out his future content and is thinking about his account name. He also told me a few days ago that he is looking forward to the next HiveFest!

Cheers,

Martina

What vivid and warm memories ❤️ I must admit that this relay of posts about HiveFest seems to continue the event itself in time, reviving your own feelings from time to time.

But here and now, I can't believe that I met you less than a month ago, because I have a strong feeling that I have known you for a long time. And I believe that when we meet up next time we'll feel like parted just a week ago.

That's sooo cool to know your husband will join Hivers soon! Let me know when he'll register so I can follow him as well.
And the story about pack of cigarettes is really funny. Just imagine how they ask me at the airport in Switzerland: What is the purpose of your visit? And I answer: I came to pick up my cigarettes.😎

Sending you my great hug and !LUV

I was so touched when you told me that we're almost like a family. I also feel like this and can't wait to meet you again. I also think that it will be like we met only yesterday and we will continue where we finished 🙂

Of course, I will let you know as soon as he starts his account..

Haha, I can imagine their confused faces 😂 It's still in my handbag, I will have to take it out before somebody notices and will ask me strange questions 😂

😆😆😆

What an incredible and eloquent round up of the entire event. Your husband and you made me feel so much at home and are incredibly wonderful company to have. I cannot assert how much I loved being around the 2 of you. Cannot wait to see you again! I promise I will have a few more Dutch words in my arsenal till then ;)
Also, a good username would be @stefine :D

Hahaha, but well, he is not so happy about this username, sorry 😂

Back at ya for being incredibly wonderful company to have! 😍

I can't wait to meet you again! 🙂 we're going to have a lot of fun again!

Dear Martina, it's been a pleasure to meet you at HiveFest. I'm sure if there was a smile contest, you'd be an equally tough competitor to beat. See you next year!

PS1: It was a perfect plan to bring your friendly husband to HiveFest to convert. How about @husband1 for his account name?
PS2: Thank you for the excellent suggestion you made to me during the closing dinner 😉

Oh, that is so nice of you to say! See you next year wherever Hive Fest will be held! 🙂

I suggested the name to him but he didn't seem to be so thrilled. At the end he agreed as long as you will start using @husband3 😉

My pleasure, I must say that I only make excellent suggestions 😍

See you next year wherever Hive Fest will be held!

Deal! It's written in the blockchain now!

At the end he agreed as long as you will start using @husband3 😉

Noooo, I don't want to be a minnow again 😩

Hey nice post, i enjoyed our conversation too at dinner on how Hive can help young women in third world areas where technology has been commoditized and it's only information what it's left to be learned.
I'm so glad you found the event so appealing and hopefully next year we can turn up the heat by having it on a warmer places.

It was very nice meeting you too! I hope that next time it will really be in Mexico and you will get to show us around 🙂 I've never been to South America, so I would not miss a chance to go!

We plan to show them around the south of the country and take them to some places that we love.

I am eagerly looking forward to that trip... I wanna spend more time with you... It was really lovely meeting you in person.

Oh my dear, me too! I can't wait! I keep coming to Stefan with proposals of places where we should go. I have a perfect one if we meet around Christmas. I'm sure you will love it!

I would love to talk to you more, so this trip will be our chance to do so 🙂

I wish you a lovely evening and give a hug to Blind for me please 🙂

I have a perfect one if we meet around Christmas. I'm sure you will love it!

For sure, Christmas time would be perfect...

I would love to talk to you more, so this trip will be our chance to do so 🙂

Mee too...

Let me know when we are going to meet again and where we can stay connected and plan our trip...

I will pass your hug and greetings to blind...

Martina! I got home last night and can start replying to these fun Hive posts. It was so great meeting you and Stephen and I am excited he is going to join HIVE Yay!!

How was it? I hope you had a lot of fun! Can't wait for your posts 🙂

It was lovely meeting you and I hope that we will see each other soon! Yes, yes, he is pretty excited too 🙂

It was a real pleasure to meet you too, even if at the end we only discussed a little. I guess that we will have to catch up at the next HiveFest (or maybe if I jump North in a close future or you pass by Paris).

Cheers!

At the next HiveFest for sure 🙂 I should be going to Paris to visit a friend of mine so that could be an opportunity for us to meet too! I'll keep you posted.

Have a good evening!

Don't hesitate to keep me posted!

Cheers!

I don't know about you but I'm still digesting hivefest! It was intense but brilliant. I was also super happy to meet you the first evening and knew that I would have someone I get on well with for the rest of the weekend even if everyone else was weird (which of course they weren't but still!)

Would love to meet again for sure at next HiveFest of course but also if we should find ourselves in the same country at some point before that.

Sure, I am! Time flies by but it's still like we were there yesterday 🙂

Hahaha, I was feeling the same 🙂 like there was someone I could hang with even when the rest wouldn't be so nice..

I haven't been to London for such a long time and I know that the vegan scene there is amazing, so I never say never BUT if you happen to plan some time in Switzerland, do let me know too! We could take you to some pretty cool places!

Would love to come to Switzerland some time - maybe next year... let's keep in touch!

Thank you for your kind words. It was my pleasure to have met you. I enjoyed our chats a lot.

Lovely to meet you there. They are such friendly people so I think everyone had a great time. Maybe see you again some time.

Awww thank you for the compliments :D next time we will have more time to chat! Promised :)

My pleasure, your shirt matched your hair perfectly (or the other way around?😂)! Anyway, I loved that! Good that we set it up now already 🙂

They call me the new kid of blockchain! 😎

The salsa classes are coming 💯% and I already bring 2 person to hive so the meetup it’s a most.

You have nice pictures on your post 😉

Especially the first one, right? 🙂 Oh, I never think of taking pictures during events, so I'm glad that there are pictures to borrow 😉

I suggest that we also include the Czech community in our meetup, I'm convinced that @phortun would join. And I bring my husband, so it makes 2 people too! 😂 Is one of your people your wife by any chance?

😂😂 she is not in have yet. But I just wrote to a man who posted about running here in Bratislava, so hopefully we will be our friend as well.

I invited two of my friend to hive and they didn’t post their first post yet.

I just telling to everyone who I meet about hice. 🙂

We will make a nice meetup soon or later

So the restaurant where you went with Zirochka and Sjarvie, was it by any chance called Maurice and Bella?
I had dinner with my wife there on day 0 before the opening drinks. It was the most amazing vegan dinner I ever had. I did not get a shot though 😭
It was amazing to meet you and whenever you want to come to Balaton just let me know so I can talk it through with the family.

It was called Nomad aan het Ij. It's a great place, you should definitely visit next time. You will love it. The service is friendly and funny and the owner is hilarious. Food was delish! It was my second time there and I'm sure that I will go there again.

Now I know that I will visit Maurice and Bella as well I haven't been there before 🙂

It was amazing meeting you too! I will for sure let you know! We know Hungary and nature around lake Balaton is beautiful!

Now I know where we go when we are in Amsterdam next time.
Thank you (:

It was great meeting you at last and I'm so glad you came despite you ignoring us for most of the time these couple of years !!! 🤣

Next time we'll look forward to Stefan being a true Hiver!!

I choose to ignore the ignoring part 😂 and I promise that I will do my best to be more active! 🙂

Stefan is so excited about it now and I can't wait for him to start his project about which he wants to write. I think he will find his audience here.

It was great meeting you too!

Double delish now!! Yeah!!!

You Čech people put to many things on top of those letters 😂

Skutečně netuším, proč si to myslíš.

:DDD

😂

the ě are confusing :D is that because how you read the n? because then it would make sense but it would not make sense :D

Too hard to explain in writing, real life beer chat needed :D

Ďakujem, to som veľmi rada. Naozaj som si to užila. Stálo ma to veľa energie, kedže nie som zvyknutá rozprávať nepretržite 4 dni, ale stálo to za to. Plánujeme s Awildom stretnutie v Bratislave a bolo by super, ak by si prišiel tiež.

What an amazing days we had! It was a pleasure meeting you, and thanks to your post I can finally see the final group photo! :))) Cheers! !BEER

It was a lot of fun! I hope that we all can make it next year too 🙂

Oh, I loved it when I saw it for the first time! 😉

Sweet martina, finally you did your blog and I got to see the Sunday picture of goodbye , made me even more sad hahahah no , always family first. We had such a great time, and we both were a bit anxious which was not nesseccary at all.
It was so nice to meet your hubby Saturday and I am so glas hivers made home enthusiastic about the platform. Dear thank you and please don’t work to hard
Love from Rotterdam

Yes, we had a great time together. It was lovely that we met at the beginning and could work through our anxiety together 🙂 I was sad that I didn't get to say goodbye to you but I'm sure we will meet soon in Rotterdam!

Thanks a lot for your kine words, my dear!

It was really nice to meet and chat with you. Thanks for all the help and tips 🙂

Looks like a great time! Cool that you got to experience it 😎

i wish i could join hivefest too

I keep reading these, and it sounds like an incredible experience :) ... I think the reason it feels so natural is because people here chat daily online, perhaps more than most people do face to face.

Another special Thank you to everyone who talked to my anti-crypto husband. You got him hooked up! He has already figured out his future content and is thinking about his account name. He also told me a few days ago that he is looking forward to the next HiveFest!

I'm glad he's finally getting hooked 🙌 What does he like to write?

I imagine that the experience at #Hivefest 2022 seemed great to you, I would also love to attend and I hope to be able to do so for the following year 2023

I see that you quite enjoyed the Hivefest chatting with friends even with those you had not seen for some time. Living that experience is one of the ones I have written down on my wish list for next year, it must be a great experience.
