This was a good idea for two reasons!
First off, we like to get the most out of our projects. If this "milking stand" can also work for trimming hooves and shearing sheep, then it'll come in three times as handy. Additionally, Daisy was never really that people friendly, so we hadn't checked her hooves yet. It had been on the to do list, and since she was warming up to us with the milking process anyway, we thought it was about time to give her a pedicure.
THE TEST DRIVE!
After some suggestions from other steemians were received, I decided that I would test out a few other methods for trimming hooves besides the razor blade that I used last time. While I will also be testing out some tools specifically designed for the task, I wanted to try these scissors that I found. I got a good deal on them and I figured that they could do the job.
With Monster Truck the Pepper offering some feed to snack on, I was able to get to work. Giving Daisy a tasty treat while we work with her encourages her to have a good attitude and it also gives her something to do and to distract her a bit.
Personally, I think that these scissors did a great job, Daisy took it well, and the stand worked very good too! It'll be a while before she needs another trim, but she sure needed this one. We've got some other interesting goat news to share soon enough, but I'll need to take some photos first. Here are some other photos from this effort, and I think that they speak for themselves. We all enjoy interacting with these animals on a daily basis, and the @little-peppers are learning a lot of responsibility.

I have the slightly smaller version of those same scissors from the same brand and I have had them for years and they are awesome, I use them around the house and take them hunting, the tool steel is good for a magnesium striker too.
Very cool! This was the first time that I had seen that kind of scissors, but I had to stop and buy!
I made a little sheath for mine so I could put them in my pocket and backpack.
So what are the uses of trimming goat hooves??
It keeps them healthy and prevents infection.

The scissors is the best to use because it would trim straight and it won't cause any injury to you nor the baby unlike blade and some other tools

She really did need the trimming. I think animals somehow know when they're being well cared for and actually appreciate it.

Thank you for that. If the goats walk on enough rocks, their hooves stay trimmed. Here they are in a field though, so I have to trim them.

I just saw a video today about trimming horse hooves. Now you're talking about trimming goat hooves. Maybe it's the world telling me to cut my toenails. Heh.
Have you cut goat nails before? Is it difficult to keep from cutting the hoof?
I've done this about three times now. It's pretty easy if you understand the basics and what to watch out for.

I always fantasize of homesteading and owning a goat farm!! I was talking with my wife the other day about it and she always dismisses the idea as silly. I showed her this and she just rolls her eyes! One day I will hit the Lotto with a nice safety net below us and pull that trigger and make the move.

That is a lot safer for you rather than a razor blade,
It is surprising how fast the hooves will grow on pasture rather than the stony cliffs that they were designed for, it is a never-ending job [just like girls fingernails]
Yup, we plan on building some rock structures for them to play on to help out!
I don't know about goats, but sheep hooves, at the stage you had, sure are real smelly, to the point it is worth doing them more often to avoid the smell.
I'm completely inexperienced with goats, but...is that a normal amount of hoof trimming? Is it usual to have to cut that much off for them or was Daisy just really due for a trim?

As a veterinary doctor on steemit i will advice you to do the trimming with caution because any wound on it could cause bacteria toxins like clostridium or other endotoxemia which could lead to their dealth. We are animal lovers, we love animals. I love animals! All specie goat(caprine), dogs(canine) and all other animals. Keep the flag flying sir...
