Rules for Blogging on Hive or How to stifle Creativity.

in #howto4 years ago (edited)

I am a tad crabby. Just a warning......

Hello there. Welcome to the Hive blogging Frontend.

Here is a list of unwritten rules you must follow to 'make it' on Hive.

  1. All posts need to be at least 1,000 words long.
  2. All posts must be formatted to look pleasing to other people.
  3. All Comments you make must go into great detail to make sure the author knows you read their post.
  4. Write stuff you do not care about but you know others do.

I hope you enjoy your stay on Hive. It will last about two days if you are stubborn and follow the rules above.
It was wonderful having you here.
Please stop again.

Welcome to the Hive blogging Frontend!

Here is a list of suggestions to help you in the coming weeks on Hive.

  1. Post what is important to you. It will show through in your writing. Reading someone's post about a subject they are passionate about is more engaging for the reader.
  2. Find subjects, using the hashtag system, that interests you.
  3. Spend time getting to know other people that blog about subjects you like or want to learn about.
  4. If you read a post and it moves you, leave a comment. Think about how much it means if you would get a comment. Any kind of comment, under a post, makes the Author happy.

If you are new to blogging, reading Attract Your Reader With Great Formatting, written by @Shadowspub, offers general guidelines on how to make a post.

Your time on Hive will depend on how interactive you are with others. Hive is made up of small and large communities of people who, over years, have learned to respect each other.

Each community of people has its own way of looking at Hive. If the first community you find doesn't fit your style do not give up. There are people from all walks of life on Hive. You will find your community when you are your true self. Being someone you are not is too exhausting to keep up for any length of time.

The above are guidelines. Use what works for you. Trust in yourself and having fun. You will learn and improve faster when you are happy. Happy people attract happy people.

Enjoy your time on Hive.
Welcome to the family!

Moral: Do not impose rules to make people conform to what you feel is the only way of doing something. Variety and creativity are born in places where people feel free to express themselves however they want.

How boring life would be if we were all just robots that followed orders.

Help someone smile today. It can not hurt you.

How boring life would be, indeed. Thanks for the reminder @snook, I never was any good at following the rules for writing. ANY writing...

Which is ironic, since I'm a book editor for a living...

I never learned the rules soooooo

But because of that, I get protective of the freedom Hive should offer everyone when it comes to learning, creativity, and trying new things even if they bomb.

If I ever write a book I will look you up. :D but think you are safe for another 20 years LOLL

You are welcome!! Thank you for stopping!

Someone is not a happy camper? LOLZ... I think you may be feeling like:

and this was AFTER I took a nap on it LOLLL
be thankful :D

ROFL! Wow :D I think it may be a symptom... you are allergic to daylight after all. Winter is coming.

Grumpy chicks say it best!!!! 😆

What IS THAT with the 1000 or 500 word "rules" - some frustrated teacher? Some of the punchiest, best things I read are barely 3 paragraphs - but tight, concise, provocative. Currently working though the 365 Days of Giant Steps by Tony Robbins - honestly - the guy barely manages 300 words and yet has me pondering all day.

Have we forgotten how profound picture essays can be??

You said it perfectly.

Some days I just shake my head and take a nap..... to get up and write a post with warnings attached :D

I will have to look into that book!!

Grumpy chicks say it best!!!! 😆

Hahaha! Agreed.

And concise can be everything. And picture essays. I understand the suggestion of a word count, but IMO, if one can see the effort (which often appears effortless...)....

You ought to take a look at Seth Godin's blog. He's approaching 10,000 consecutive days of it and a 100 word post is an essay for him.

But he gets important things said. Every single day.

Perfectly said. Boy your posts are beautifully formatted!

I DO have crabby rules. Like 'the Health Benefits of Insert Thing Here' is the most boring title, and I'm unlikely to read it, or care. Please, please can people stop doing that. Please. If you are reading this - please.

Thank You!!
I worked very hard on my formatting over the years so that means a lot to me!!

sooooooo it is a good thing I didn't write the title as....... :D

"The Health Benefits of blogging"

and most times inserting things anywhere is not a good idea :D

sorry I could not pass it up!

and most times inserting things anywhere is not a good idea :D

Most times, but I find I rise to the occasion frequently when it cums to inserting my thing somewhere. 🤣

That's one of the reasons I created @thealliance, ya know. It isn't specific and tries really hard not to judge, just a family supporting each other grow however they want and whatever way they do. I hate rules. Also hate writing shit just to get a vote from here or there but you know I see a lot of that shit. I just pulled my oldest delegation I ever had because of this same thing. They decided to 'refine' what the community account voted on instead of just supporting its members. I see people put up shitty ass-kissing 3speak videos. I see people post lame GEMS shit. I see people post crap on leofinance they obviously don't care about. It's the division I was talking about when the communities thing first hit and it's only gotten worse. Post in this community for that vote or have to vote on all these and then make a post about that every day. Or if you don't use our front-end, we're not gonna acknowledge you have a badass post. Fuck that bullshit. Be you. End of story. If they don't like it? What does @jackmiller say? Fuck 'em.

Yeah, we all saw what started happening when STEEM went from $1 (and $5) to under 50 cents.

That is all I am going to say on the entire topic of "motivation behind thoughts & deeds". (full stop, period, dot)

Great Post my friend! I have rules. Not that I follow them, you understand. I've never been very good with rules, but everybody else should be! Really.

Rule 1: This isn't Facebook or Instagram or Twitter. Please leave that baggage at the door.

Rule 2: Don't Cheat. This place places huge preference on original content. Plagiarism in any form is really one of the few ways you can get on the shit list here. Don't do it. EVER.

Rule 3: Have fun. If it isn't fun why in God's name do it? Do something fun instead.

Rule 4: Cut the other person some slack. Almost all are happy to be here and if you give them a modest chance they will be happy you are here too.

So there you have it, BTs rules for Hive.

Thanks for a great post Snook. I think I'll go break a rule or two...

Plagiarism in any form is really one of the few ways you can get on the shit list here. Don't do it. EVER.

This!! I so agree with this. One of the hardest lessons for some to learn.

HUGS

Why is it that you and I always agree when you're grumpy? Perhaps because the same things make me grumpy, too???

I shall just say, on all of the above: I could not agree more :D

Happy day, dear Snook!!

You made me hungry today LOL I was going to let you know that but Hubby came home and I got distracted :D

and HAAAAAAAAAAA! on the grumpy comment. Thank you so much for your comment. It is always good to know one is not alone in their thinking.

Good Morning to you!! I hope while I sleep you have a wonderful Tuesday!

you made me hungry today

Ha! Then I'm doing something right! Sorry, not sorry! lol

Sweet dreams!

Sweet. I think I started posting to the ecotrain community and sincerely I loved it it was a community that maligns to my contents despite me being an oldie of a sort. Guess this post is important for user's retention purpose

It would help I think.

I am happy you found a place you love too!!

Love it. I will take the second list of 'to dos' with blogging on Hive :)

I just try to post my interests and whatever I'm doing. I do long form posts two or three times a week, but they're about Splinterlands.
I even prefer short form posts that go straight to the point, like this one. I have the attention span of a goldfish 😄
