Inviting Suggestions For India Specific Contests!

in #india6 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone. I've been thinking of running a new contest in addition to the Steem.Chat contest. We can do it weekly or bi-monthly. I'd like it to be specific to India so that it's in-line with some of my community efforts here.

I'd also like to have some giveaways if we get some sponsors along the way. Therefore, a community specific contest makes sense to me now as we're growing steadily.

So please drop your suggestions in the comments below. I'd love to know what you think. You are welcome to drop as many ideas as you want to.

Prizes: 12 SBD for the best Idea/s and 8 SBD for the second best and 5 SBD for the third best idea.

If you feel there are some great contest ideas running already, feel free to highlight them as well. I'll consider them. I'd love to see what can be adopted for a regular basis. Since this will be specific to India, shipping won't be an issue I guess.

I've been considering this for sometime now. As usual, I will sponsor the prizes as there aren't any sponsors for anything India specific. It would be awesome to have anyone come forth to sponsor prizes for a specific contests. It doesn't have to be SBD/Steem everytime but something tangible. We can make it fun as we go.

Hopefully when the prices retrace back to higher levels, the contests I hope will yield better response with greater community participation and the rewards could go up as well.

As with everything, we can only start small and scale.

I'm really looking forward to seeing some interesting inputs so kindly give it your best shot. I would like to run this mid-week so that there's a short gap between the Steem.Chat contest and this one. So please spread the word on this so that we can get off to a good start.

If you are from India, please be sure to fill the form in the links in my signature so that we can build a list of active users from India in the days to come.

As a parent, I feel that the present generation is not getting enough of grandma stories which glorify the Indian past and mythology and so on. I suggest that you put a contest where people get rewarded for writing stories about Indian history, mythology and the like in their own language and of course provide a translation in English. It should be a bilingual post with references and so on.

What led me to this?
I asked my son about cultural beliefs and he said he was a skeptic. I do not want the future generations to be not aware of the glory of India. He knows more about the marvel universe than Sivaji and all. Sigh

All the best for your future plans

You just spoke out my mind. The Indian epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata are legendary. I remember and relate to so many incidences from Mahabharata in my daily life. It would be a shame if these epics are not promoted enough in the next generation. Worth a thought.

thanks, I hope Indian writers give this a thought

Hi @firepower : I have a suggestion. Indian science community is sleeping(with respect to steemit)! Yes, to be honest, a lot of quality science writers are there in India. You can see that in StackExchange and quora etc. But in steemit, we lack Indian science writers who write quality and original stuff. I think a contest for Indian science writers will do a great boost in this area, which will allow more people to join the community. We have tonnes of talented students and researchers. I think if this idea gets realizes, it would be a boost to Indian steemit community in general. I am also a member in #steemSTEM community. They encourage regional content too (I meant any local language science article), but with English translation.

My firm belief is that the value of STEEM is tied to the quality of the content which we steemians deliver. So if people like you encourages projects like this, it would be a great boost to the platform in general. The potential in India is yet to be tapped. Thank you. (Regarding contests and prizes from my side: I am trying to open a contest for my next science article. And one more thing: If I win this contest, I can use that money for the prize too :P )

Yes, it's true.

Indian science crews aren't properly introduced into steemit, I think.

The main difference between Quora and steemit is - Quora has a good audience for almost every type of category. And, there's no need of followers to get some like-minded encouraging viewers.

Some months ago I posted this https://steemit.com/science/@prabin/the-mysterious-sound-of-space-can-you-hear-them-7b7c0130d9956 on steemit. Unfortunately I was discouraged after getting mere audience views, keep the rewards apart.

Multiple times I tried to convince myself to return to steemit and make my own audience by giving some time. But since we writers live on client works and I am making my living out of writing, I can rarely risk of some days going unpaid.

I would appraise this suggestion for science category to @firepower.

I promise to get back to steemit if it there's a little encouragement else I gave adjust my timing otherwise to return to steemit.

@firepower did you check? Any upcoming contests?

Loading...

The competition should be to organise steem meetups in the contestant’s city or locality. The participants needs to post pictures of the meetups, and the stuff they discussed in it.
This is a great way to promote steemit and also it will strengthen the overall Indian steemit community. Not many people know of steemit right now, and the fact that social networking can be rewarding will definitely excite people.

I love this idea. Hope somebody reads this as firepower never responds to comments.

You read it, and If you are the only one who believes in this , that’s enough, but I can bet you’re not.

I would love a folk tales contest. We come from different states with a rich culture of folk tales. This contest will help revive the culture of lost folk tales and encourage more fiction on steemit.

Hi @firepower, I can simply say that it's a great idea. Please find my proposal regarding the same.

Problem Statement : Building a community and promoting quality content.

Goals : Involve a greater number of people participation.

The Idea : Running a contest where users showcase the unique diversities present around them,
either a picture(needs to be original and strictly as per a format) or be a simple post .

Topics : Culture,Food,Facts,Historical Place,Legends,Experiences

Supporting Reasons : The Steemit Indian User comes from different places and is a group of people from all ages. Hence a contest should engage all of them, and at the same time be realistic too.

Contest should relate to people so that they can propagate things which are already present around them.

I like the your contest idea, Great! You describe well and uses also.

I second your suggestion @saksham. We have a country with diverse traditions, culture, geographical and social conditions. Different topics can be taken to showcase or describe them and whoever does it the best way, wins the contest. Topics can be like place in your city/ village/ hometown, tradition, cloth etc... Each above topic can be taken one by one.

If you start with very specific contests like art, science, memes etc., then you would be restricting it to a very small subset within the Indian steem community. Which isn't a great way to make a contest popular.

To get most people to participate (at least initially), keep it open. You are allowed to post within that week (assuming weekly contest) a meme, blog, photos, text, travelogue or anything else in your field of expertise, with their being only one applicable condition. It should be about India.

Want to write a poem, go for it. It should be about India. Want to talk about Indian politics sure. Want to come up with some crazy meme which will have everyone in splits, awesome.

This way we can get top quality India specific content.

To make life easier for you. Have 3-5 judges from different fields of expertise. So it will be easier to narrow down the winner and make the participants feel that it is a fair contest.

Hi @firepower ,
We have Dtube, Dlive, Dmania, Dsound that work on steemit blockchain. But I won't prefer any sort of contests making use of them as it will again make it suitable only for a small number of people. But the writing contests are different which is inclusive in nature. Hence mainly creating content via writing and using other mediums along with it would be the best practice in initial days.

India has immense potential..Our cultural diversity is vast, We are speaking 100s of languages, We got a rich literature works dating back to 1000s of years, It is in our land that a number of world religions took their first breath....See, we have no dearth of ideas as is the case of any other parts of the world. As the contests that we are planning are within our demography, We can handle many simmering topics.

Why can't we come up with our ideas on moves made by our Union/State governments that would have a pan India level effect? Nothing can deter us from doing this as a contest as POLITICS is and should an integral part of every human. Prizes need not necessarily to be in SBDs/Steems. In last month I saw an African community distributing keyboards and OTG cables to those who have no laptops with them. We can offer good books and many other stuffs as the price.

Many people from India suffer here because of ENGLISH .contests can be splitted into regional languages along with translations..I know it is double work, but translations has to be mandatory even if it is a broken English (People like me who are from south india don't know hindi).

We have the potential to create original science, cultural and unique quality contents. When someone search something about India on Google, Greatest contents should be from steemit. That's where the success lies in!

I should say, only original and quality contents have to be selected for curation and price distribution. A single person can't do this, so a group of people is necessary!

Great Planning @firepower 👍
You should start contest in this way :

  • First Week : Blog writing about specific topic decided by you or host ( Topic should related to India’s History, Politics, Rituals, geographically, Administrative service etc).

  • Second week : Talent hunt, in this contest Indian users can show their talent in Drawing (Manually), Design using software. You or host of contest will decide the topic/object.

  • Third week : Photography of Indian nature, Indian Roads, Indian famous places but have to write at least 200 words about the photo/place/nature.

  • Fourth week : Food recipes.

Thanks !

very good suggestion

Thanks 🙏

I will suggest a post about notable act of kindness they have received either on steemit from a steemian or from the real world.

Lets face it we have all come someone that touched or impacted on our life one way or the other without them having any need to.

Since the contest is india specific, the participant provide or find way to get the prize to them. And the contestants who are obviously steemian get to win some steem/sbd in the process.

I think it is a way to appreciate and circulateact of kindness. I believe this kind of contest will touch and affect someone's life.

You can call it act of kindness or other suitable names.

Hello. I am a member of Vietnamese Community on Steemit. We have hold a successful beauty contest for the Vietnamese girls only on Steemit.
We highly recommend that you should take the same contest to warm up and connect your community.
Here are the rules of our contest. You could take a look at them to make them as your conference
https://steemit.com/contest/@lenancie/a-beauty-contest-for-vietnamese-community-on-steemit

my idea is about different cultures because we have many states and we all speak the different language even some state also speak sub-language too so we have many culturaitve people around India and its a great thing that we get to know about their place, culture, which speciallity of that city and what famous there etc things happen their we will get to know all part of India and its culture and it also great for others to know too.

Indian music contest please.

How about a competition on -making memes or photography.
And how about short films😅It will be very unique.
Also captioning a image, writing quotes..
Have a great day ahead sir, JAI HIND✊
P.s.- Just to make me visible, I'm upvoting myself.😂😂

How about the one that used to be hosted by steemvoter where one would nominate someone else's post and the winner would be decided by the number of votes.
But since votes can be deceptive, trails and bots should be banned and to support a nomination users will rather reply to the comment with "voted", that way it's an even playing field for everyone.

You reward a winner or top 3(upto you), and probably vote on them as a reward? To encourage nominations, maybe vote on them as well?
The rewards are for you to decide though.

Yo should do a competition
where you let people make something. (like memes, awesome pictures, food, clothes)
And then you pick the top 10 and make a strawpoll for it
and then the community chooses the winner

How about a competition that involves people giving there views on a given subject matter such as Rear animal extinction, need for skills acquisition by individuals, importance of good sportsmanship, need to be a computer literate, etc.

Wow this is such a great effort for all our Indians I would love to join thanks a lot for taking this effort.

I have seen a lot of frustration amongst the educated masses these days w.r.t. life in India. Specifically those who returned from their onsite trips.
I know life isn't as comfortable as it is in the foreign countries like USA but its not that bad either.
I would love to see that faith and belief restored in our fellow Indians so that it reduces if not stops the brain drain.
How about hosting a contest asking our fellow Indians to share a real life experience demonstrating the love, kindness, care, affection, help etc. The incidence should be impactful and make all Indians feel proud about being an Indian.

Hi @firepower
Since we recently met at Delhi meet and just loved the idea whereby we could see the people we interact here.
I posted a meme contest with the similar idea.
You can see that here: https://steemit.com/contest/@thethinker007/putting-faces-to-usernames-meme-contest-or-2-sbds-to-be-won-or

PS: Not promoting the post. It already paid out.

Hey @firepower, I have ideas for music contests:

  1. The Open Mic contest is doing great on Steemit. Every week there are hundreds of entries and I've met some wonderful musicians through the contest. Something on those lines for Indians would really help get the music community going. I wanted Steem/it to be a way for Indian musicians to express themselves while earning something to help them focus on their music and not do odd jobs. We can do this one of two ways:
    a) A separate Open Mic for Indians
    b) Indian Open mic contest within the global Open mic. Make another tag say #openmicIndia and that can be the second tag for Indian musicians. So they can participate in both open mics.

  2. #mondaymixtape : This is a contest even non musicians can participate. I have been doing this for 6 weeks just as a tag.
You can check the latest post here: https://steemit.com/mondaymixtape/@hardikv/monday-mixtape-6-favourite-songs-for-the-week
    The idea is:

  1. Make a post with #mondaymixtape as your first tag
  2. Post links to 5 songs you like
  3. Tell us why you like them. Point out features that surprised you, stuff you learnt from the song, etc etc.

This contest helps discover new music and since it comes from recommendations, Mondays will become interesting for a lot of people :)

  1. A general talent contest also would work great. Art, dance, poetry, music, magic... Any type of display of talent can be encouraged through a contest.

But participating in music contest requires inherent talent which in turns prompt many to stay away. We should encourage talents without even any tags though.

I would love to like participate in food related contest. There are some other contest you can organise like Photography of nature, animals, vehicles, Monuments photography, Photography based on social issues like poverty, child labour etc. food photography.

Some fiction related story telling contests, Contest related to show our culture etc. There are lots of ideas you can start contest related to crafts with waste material etc.

Be It Whatever Contest You Start..Should Be India Related as we can let the world know on This Global Stage About The Great Country We Live In.

#vandemataram

@firepower it will be great initiative, I would like to be part of a contest that is all about financial field either it is about Equity market, Forex Market, Mutual Funds or any other financial instrument. I recommend a daily or weekly contest in which people can predict the Levels of Nify, Sensex and Foreign Currencies. The best three people can be awarded. For further advise please reply me. We can start new tag with #niftyindia, #sensexindia or #forexindia.

Well their are bunches of suggestions moving around my head but I would like to suggest the best one that is very few people know about Steemit here in India they only know about the video sharing media that is :-------

Youtube

Nobody actually knows about Steemit in India very few ie maybe some 40% of people rest 60% of them are just wasting there monthly internet packages on using facebook , instagram whatsapp and sometimes watching youtube videos...But not forgetting we have several creators who are just wasting there talent on the real world so why not they join steemit and make something big achievement something creative something extra ordinary with citations rewards people from foreign countries fund there studies with the rewards so people from here too can fund if we have a big and huge Indian Community ....

So Sir my suggestion will be :----

That lets host a contest for the Indians this time and atleast let the contest valid for atleast a month were Indian Steemians are to do a task were he/she will have to inform his/her friends to join steemit and add as much new users he/she can and then they need to screenshot the new account details he /she made it happen to add this initiative will not only add new users but also make us bring a huge community...

Hope you liked the suggestion

We want more of Indian Steemians here in Steemit and also host a Steem FanFest 2019 India by next year

Speaking English in India has become a big show off and is treated a symbol of being classy and intelligent. I believe that this has resulted in suppressing the actual talented and wise people in India. The same is taking place on steemit as well now.

I think beginning a community driven project to uplift the hindi language writings would be a great idea. I understand not the overall india speaks Hindi but atleast we can begin with our mother language and then think about other languages also if need be.

Thanks @firepower for being a support to the indian communtiy :)

Ideas :

  1. Mass binging on a series(Either something on Netflix or PrimeVideo) and people to write about their progress/thoughts/episode-wise reviews
  2. We could have a monthly reading club and participants to posts views/updates detailing their thoughts on their progress.
  3. "Caption this" contests are always fun. looking for the most satire & comical captions here
  4. Photography contests - Not looking for a professional grade quality photo material but a week long contest and each needs to participate daily for every single day for the week on the daily topics.
  5. Post videos on Dlive or so of the things around you/ your life and show it to people.
  6. Fiction contests : People to write based on a genre or a prompt given to them. Daily contest for a week. On a daily basis people can get upvotes and have point attributed basis the quality of work and a weekly final to be held, totaling up all the point and the winner to be announced
  7. Similar contest as above but for poetry

Hi @firepower,

Suggestion 1:

For funny :

A selfie challenge :

Reason : Clicking selfie is more about self appreciation and confidence boosting and it brings out real accounts on top. Nonetheless its funny too, i believe the funniest concept for contest when the themes are like weird selfie, scary selfie etc. Imagine people clicking weir selfies or something sort of that and sharing that, i think that actually brings people closer.

Suggestion 2 :

To Highlight India :

A photography challenge : of no hills or no trees but something that is specific to india. for example : a picture of an earthern pot or a monkey on open streets, or indian art or architecture, creative beautiful pictures of subjects that exists only in India and photographers from wide world on steemit could awe seeing different beautiful subjects of 🇮🇳 . I believe it would give indian community an eye uplift on steemit.

we should create a contest in such a way that it provides both fun and knowledge to writers and the readers.Since many days I've been obsessed with this idea. I think it surely will hit the audience.
Just select an incident from Indian mythology or politics or celebrities or whatever may be that is related directly to Indian society. Weekly competition would be awesome so that many readers can check their fellow people posts.
One should share their writing relating the incident that happened similarly like 'THE GIVEN INCIDENT' in their life, if not one could adopt for fiction.

The writer really feels the taste of Indian things in his writing. By this way, we can check out some really interesting stories and writings of many Indians, Of course, we can learn from those writings.

I am Pricasso most wonderful artist and here is my suggestion:

A Laughing/Smiling contest...

Participants are to submit an original/creative piece of art/meme/joke/poem etc (that they personally created) short sweet and to the point nothing to long and drawn out. Which ever 'creation' evokes the biggest feeling of happiness love or touches you the most wins and or which ever one makes you laugh the most/loudest ie: You rate the humour factor for example on a scale of 1-10, the bigger the laugh or smile the higher the number and so on ;) As an interesting twist you can either be the Judge or have say a voting round where the community votes on which made them laugh loudest and the highest average voted on by the community wins, comes second and so on..

I will commit to making 1 x Most wonderful 'Pricasso Style' work of art to each and every 1st place winner as part of my contribution.

Yours Always
Pricasso

I have a habit to sort the various tags in steemit in descending order of their payouts and an observation always upsets me.
I have noticed that tags of other countries like Philippines, Indonesia, Korea, China etc. have a very high payout total as compared to India. The number of posts too is very less in India.
I am sure we have huge user base in India and @firepower is doing a great job promoting steemit in various parts of India. Another way of promoting is by having good payouts. I'm also sure that we Indians are contributing great quality articles to the platform. Why not unite Indians together ?
So we can host a contest to identify 5 best introduction posts of our fellow Indians. At the end of the contest firepower can feature some 20 best introduction posts in his post and the one hunting down these posts will get 1 SBD for each featured introduction post.
This way both the finder and the introducing Indian will get a small boost. Monetary encouragement is always the best encouragement. What say ?

Here is a snapshot of payouts for the tags. India tag has the lowest of the payouts.
image

I am sure we have huge user base in India

I disagree. Yes, there are many users. But not a huge user base compared to its potential.

Also I want to point out that steemit is full of noise. This seems to be a negative statement. But that is true. As I said before the value of STEEM ultimately is tied to the content quality which users from steemit produces (in my understanding). Can everyone produce quality content? Maybe not. There should be an effective mechanism by which plagiarism and noise etc should be controlled.

Lets start weekly contests that related to IPL. Contest should depends on IPL schedule and teams.

Hi, @firepower good evening. I have just, come through all the suggestions about the contest. All most all comments sounds very excellent. As the contest is open for only Indians, so how it will be if it is based on the purpose of welfare for Indian steemians. As all of us are familiar with our economic conditions, so if we want to develop our Indian steemit community, it is very important to increase the SP of every steemians. So let's organise a voter guild for Indians to develop the power of productivity. I also want to suggest that the reward should be converted to sp, so that the winner will be benefited greatly with his or her steempower in the long run. It is open secret that every one of us withdraw the money if we get the reward as sbd or steem. So please the rewards should be in the form of' steem power '. Please teach the people of India about the importance and benefits of steem power. You are the star steemian of India, all of us have the sense that ,your suggestions work tremendously if you think about it. I know that all most all the steemian's of India are your followers,So if you ask them to work together to build a strong powerhouse which can lighted the life of the best.So for as the topic of the contest,it should open to every fields. You can change it in every contest. In my opinion if we unite together to make a strong community in our country, no one can stop us. So please think about my suggestions. Good night.

Hi @firepower , so I was thinking about this idea and this is what I think. Well , I feel like we are becoming so modern that we are forgetting our roots , I feel like we are eating alot of Western food and Western dressing that the beauty of our old generation is kinda lost . I feel like there should be a contest where you can showcase your traditional values , where there can be a selfie contest with traditional dresses , poem in your traditional language ( mother tongue ) but with English translation , even story contest with stories which you might have herd from your grandma , then food contest , the person with the most beautiful recipe . Then there can be singing contest 💓💓💓 in our mother tongue . Then there can be a talent search type competition , you know like India's got talent . Then trivia competition about India's culture or old traditions like crorepathi. Hehe yeah there more and more ideas in my tiny head 😅😅 but don't want to make this boring. Hope you all like my idea!!

@firepower would be great if we can have a India specific photo-contest. We can also have a shot stories/poetry contest, and Cover song contest.
