The cruise industry transported over 26 million customers last year and was worth upwards of $117 billion in 2017. All market projections show that the industry will continue to grow as operators continue to build new state-of-the-art ships with the latest in leisure opportunities.
EARTH CUSTODIANS: One question comes to mind: what would happen to the cruise lines industry if this was debated on TV ... do you think? The answer is simple. It would take a nose dive... especially when environmental matters are so much in the news and everywhere.
On top of the pollution caused by their exhaust fumes, cruise ships have been caught discarding trash, fuel, and sewage directly into the ocean.... The data collected reveals that standing on the deck of a cruise ship is similar to being in one of the world’s most polluted cities, with health experts warning of the issues surrounding poor air quality.
All these commercials selling cruises, making them resemble a paradise, offering their all-you-can-eat-buffets and other fancy activities... advertising at its finest while killing marine life and poisoning their passengers. How sick is this?
Everything is a lie and that just is another one, caused by our competition model that can only thrive if we regard humans and nature as commodities. Pure e-v-i-l. Imagine all these people standing on the deck, thinking that life is wonderful and patting themselves on the back for all the sacrifices done to finally get their dream vacation.
Locals lament the increase in pollution and health issues with more luxury cruise liners docking in the harbor, and now environmental groups and the regional government are implementing emissions tests and issuing fines to the offending cruise lines. It is estimated that over 50,000 Europeans die prematurely every year as a result of shipping-based pollution.... However, without homogenized standards and strictly enforced international rules, the cruise and shipping industry is likely to continue side-stepping many of the possible solutions.
Let's be realistic here, if it got that bad we ought to understand that cruise lines were never really bothered, rarely paid any fines at all. There never was any coordinated and global crackdowns. Otherwise they would have done something about it way sooner. It is difficult, we think, to attribute the 50K number alone to the cruise lines but pollution definitely kills and 100s of 1000s of people. Well, millions yearly.
Then every article about the topic generally tackles improvement that can be done, but cruise lines will never accept to see their profits being eroded by safety measures, they are traded on the world stock exchanges. That's the ultimate blackmail. They also have staff waiting for their paychecks. Generally when you see such an industry boom, the bust is the only way to manage a return to sanity.

The cruise holiday is not a responsible option in the first place . Travelers are also to blame. It is all good to point the finger at corporations but we seriously are running out of excuses doing that as most people know that corporations cannot be trusted at all, and lobby to buy political influence.
The picture at the top of the page shows a cruise ship approaching Hong Kong whose pollution levels are astounding and ones of the most harmful on earth. Something to chew on. The interconnectedness of everything is inescapable. Assume for a minute that the truth would go viral about those cruise lines, what would happen to all other businesses dealing with them?

On an average cruise ship of 3,000 passengers, that’s around 150,000 gallons of sewage created per week. It should be noted that larger cruise ships have capacities of up to 8,000 passengers. Wow! I had no idea that cruise ships could just dump their sewage into the ocean like that! I've always wanted to try taking a cruise vacation, but this is definitely giving me second thoughts.

Oops, I spelled his name wrong. It is Walter Russell. Yes he was an artist and scientist who has probably the most unique theories on creation, space (stillness) What God is and the forces of the Universe such as electricity, gravity, light and even the structure of the atom that you will ever hear. If you are familiar with Hermetic axioms some of this might not all be new, but it aligns closing with the natural sciences. It is amazing work. You should check out his work if you have an open mind.

I hope that we can become elevated enough someday to not need money anymore, but I do not see the majority of people moving in the right direction and further into manic materialism. However nothing last forever, so this will eventually change and this change happens one mind at a time so I will never give up.

That's interesting. I've been on several cruises and have really enjoyed them but I wasnt aware of how much pollution they caused or that they dumped their sewage directly into the ocean. That's appalling. It's strange behavior to considering they have signs all around the ships saying "save our seas," asking people to re-use their towels and not to throw garbage over board. Seems like kind of a "do as we say, not as we do" type of situation. If they air quality on the ships is actually as bad as they say, then I feel bad for the people who work in them since they are there every day for months on end.

yes, appalling and beyond. And of course it is now being reported because cruises are soooo successful that the downsides become blatant. The pursuit if financial success is a problem.
