8 months on Hive no explosive growth, same problems from Steem.. Parler exploded hugely compartively.

in #informationwar3 years ago

About 8 months ago I made this post as a response to @artemislives: "Community AMA - Are We Ready To Grow Hive With Topical Focused Content People Will WANT To Read?"

Parler is THE place where people are going for "getting away from censorship" and is being branded as such. Their PR is all over the place and the celebrities and personalities they are pulling in is massive. Parler in a shorter amount of time has millions and millions of users, and is exploding in growth as big tech censors more, WE should be getting those users but we are not.

I will once again reiterate that Steem/Hive is not setup for explosive user growth, this needs to happen ASAP. We can expect the price of Steem/Hive to go down over time as long as Posts/Day do not increase. Comments/Day isn't a good indicator of price rising as commenters don't really need much Resources to comment.

Anyway, the simplest concept I thought of regarding how to do this as follows:

  1. All Hive accounts automatically send their unused Resource Credits(still called that?) to a Global Pool. What this would look like, an account gains 20% Resources Credits per day, if the account is already at 100% fully charged and a whole day has gone by with the user doing nothing, 20% of the Resources Credits earned for that day should go to Global Pool(including new users/free users/old users/everyone so that nothing is wasted).

  2. Global Pool is where Resources pull from for users who don't have enough of their own, accounts using the Global Pool are limited in what they can do. They shouldn't be able to upvote or downvote, can make a low number of comments per day, can make 1 post per day maximum, if these accounts are found to be spammers or doing some sort of bullshit that ruins the blockchain(posting illegal porn for example) their free delegated power/Resources/whatever from Global Pool should be taken away.

  3. New Users who sign up need to have a similar sign up experience to Parler(as an example).

  4. Really go out and get the word out, interviews, TV, call into radio shows with huge followings, whatever.

  5. Profit?!?!?! lol maybe

Doing a quick check on posts per day using the data from @penguinpablo I see that we are about the same as 8 months ago, being around 13k posts a day, the peak was in May closing in around 23k posts per day. I do see comments per post going up which could be good, but I am not sure how much % of that is bot posts that need to be taken out(maybe 25%?)

This isn't enough and it needs to be wayyyy more.

Ease of use... that’s all I have to say.

Using Hive is pretty easy. It's the initial learning how it works that seems to be a hinderance in my experience.

People are lazy. If they have to put a lot of effort into learning a new system, they're not as likely to switch as the would be to something vaguely familiar.

The general use is easy but it’s all the ins and outs. Voting percentages, Resource Credits, delegation, curation and author rewards, rewards curve, Communities, multiple passwords.... just all the stuff that goes along with Hive. I agree most just want to not have to think about anything and let the upvotes fly. Lol. Plus I am terrible at explaining things. Lol

I’m not worried about Parker. It’s fringe and it’ll stay fringe. I’m more worried about Fb finding ways to do what we do and half of our community leaving but I think this bill run will help us.

I doubt we'll ever reach 1 billion users but a few million would already be very successful if they weren't all leeches.

We don’t neeeeed to be the biggest in order to succeed, but we certainly need to grow from where we are at. I wanted us to get it together before the bull market so we could have a boost in already momentous growth but it seems like we missed that train.

I think we will pull it together this year. I can’t figure out for the life of me why so few people are interested in the YouTube comment outreach I tried to organize. I think 200 people posting a decent non spammy comment on YouTube that mentions hive and the rest of us “liking” that comment to the top could bring us hundreds of not thousands of users to populate our community.

We will be fine, we just can’t get lazy or start fighting now.

Hive and Steem are very fringe I think you mean. Parler is rank 218 for USA websites and 1,918 for world wide websites, and people are signing up by tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands per day. More people signed up to be on Parler in a few days than the entirety of Steem/Hive.

I have tried commenting on youtube about steem/hive and on reddit, it gets censored. Might have to find creative ways of pointing ppl here to get by that.

yeah, they got numbers, but they're only going to attract a very narrow range of beliefs and personality types, and they will probably become exactly what they are against, some say they have already. We are just small cause we don't advertise

I would agree with the narrow range of believes and personality types, we also have that same thing going on here.

Steem had numbers like that, until ned kneecapped us.
All hail, ned!

Now we got ned's rep, and no ned.

Yeah, Ned just wanted to get drunk and play his guitar all the time.

Parler catered massively to the right wing, which is the political group getting censored the hardest on the big social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. And I have to admit myself, I heard from Parler as an option before I heard of Hive.

Let Twitter be left and Parler be right. Hive can be for everyone who is sick of the left and right 😉 and also whoever

Fair enough. But the writer asked why Parler made its gains, and it's because they carved out a niche for themselves, in my opinion

You are right, but I think that niche will limit it a whole lot after the honeymoon is over

That is true, and I think that there should be more marketing and out reach to let people know about the censorship resistance on Hive.

Parler is (still) able to advertise while Hive is not due to the Crypto Ad Ban.
Won't be long until Big Tech bans them and watch what happens to their growth.

I'm working on getting the Crypto Ad Ban lifted.

Then we can start to organise crowdfunded advertising campaigns like @jerrybanfield did so successfully before Facebook banned crypto advertising.

I hope all your efforts turn out well in the end, rooting for ya!!! :)

We need more overblown wages for proposals to be accepted. :P

I wanna get PAIDDDDDDDDDDDDD lol
