It’s my first post on Hive: a few photos, and some everyday notes from my new corner of Denmark. I’m here to learn how this community works, trin for trin - Schritt für Schritt - and to share a mix of life, AI ethics, and digitale Souveränität. Thanks to @dandegrischdine and @detlev for the friendly nudge towards this community.
Most mornings start with my dog Tamika (queen of side-eye), cat Loki (mischief manager), and three Laufenten (Indian Runner Ducks) on slug patrol. If the wind is kind, I’m out kayaking on the Flensburg Fjord; if not, I’m in the garden, losing gracefully to weather and weeds. I’m also actively learning dansk in a sprogkursus - små skridt, a little every day.

This is Loki pretending to be a good cat... ;o)
I recently traded more city noise for a hygge corner of southern Denmark. It’s slower here, greener, and the sky puts on a different show every hour. I do miss big-city buzz - concerts, Kicker (table foosball), festivals - but this pace has its own rhythm. And at least I still made it to Wacken 🤘

Helpful farmers against the mud.
I’m mapping new routines: morning coffee with ducks, and neighborly chats in a mix of English, German, and hopeful Danish. Det skal nok gå.

Not long ago they were cute ducklings :)
Housemates & small chaos
• Tamika - chief cuddle officer; suspicious of spreadsheets; photogenic by accident.

• Loki - name says it all;

• The Laufenten - snail taskforce; strong opinions about lettuce and dogs.

(No ducks were hurt in the taking of this picture. Dog's pride was hurt a little.)
By day I'm a professor for business and work on ethics in AI. What matters to me is keeping things understandable and usable for people outside the tech bubble. Digitale Souveränität feels essential: tools and rules should help everyone / mitdenken & mitentscheiden about AI, not just watch from the sidelines. I’m into low-threshold learning - plain language, practical examples, and room for questions.

I teach, research, and build practical formats for education, healthcare, public sector, and entrprises. I love my job.
I’m looking forward to exploring the community here, learning how things work, and finding good corners for AI ethics, digital sovereignty, and everyday hygge life.
If any of this resonates: hej and tak for stopping by. I’m happy to swap ideas and compare notes. Looking forward to meeting more of you.

Hejhej :)

Ha! You have a black and white Loki too! Damn that name is more popular than I thought.
Welcome!
Ha, fellow Loki-parent! 😄 I’ve loved Norse myths since way before Marvel (though I happily enjoy Marvel as well). Fun Hamburg fact: the wife of former German chancellor Helmut Schmidt was nicknamed “Loki” - very well liked and fondly remembered in my hometown. Thanks for the warm welcome!
Welcome aboard! As with all online communities, there are cliques and bickering, a few bad actors, and the usual manic-depressive responses to crypto prices on top of that, but on the whole, it's a good place to discuss ideas and debate issues with more space than Facebook or Twitter afford.
You might want to follow @generikat, @scribblingramma, @flemingfarm, @myjob, @deirdyweirdy, @snook, @denmarkguy, and @goldenoakfarm for a wider look at blogging about real life largely outside the crypto bro and AI hype crowd. @klye and @themarkymark are two of our witnesses who also write more about tech.
Thanks for the plug! Love the company I keep! :))
Had a look at your blog. Good inspiration :)
Thanks!
Thanks a lot! Will have a look at the suggestions :)
I can always add more. @corvidae the crow lady, @bertrayo the luthier, @slobberchops the urban explorer, @meesterboom the Scotsman above all other Scotsmen...
Great 😃 am following all of these now. Lots of new input :)
That was very kind of you to mention me. I have not blogged much over the last 6 months but hopefully I will be getting more time soon.
HUGS!
Hej Kerstin, og velkommen på Hive!
Danish person here, living very far from home (USA, Washington state, near Seattle), hope you find your niche here, and connect with people with similar interests!
Like all social media, it takes a little time to be seen; just be patient!
Glæder mig til at høre mere fra dig!
Oops, it looks like I gave you a shout-out without realizing you were already here in the comments!
No worries! The more the merrier!
Hej Denmarkguy, de glaeder mig til at finde en fra mit nyt hjem her :) I also lived for a few years in the US (back when it wasn't so weird). New York and North Carolina back then. Am curious to read about your take on things there. Venlig hilsen fra danmark :)
Welcome to Hive :)
You have been manual curated and upvoted by @ecency
I see you have a tuxedo cat too
our cat goes by the name Jinx , she is a lady with an attitude .
Jinx looks lovely 🤩 And every lady (be it cat or human) should have some attitude ;0)

Welcome to the Hive community @kerstin42!
We sincerely hope you find everything you are looking for and have found a new home here.
Eight suggestions to consider:
If you find yourself overwhelmed and need some guidance, or if you have any questions, there are informed Hiveans available who can help you; you can click to go to The Terminal in Discord here:
Have fun and happy Hiving!
Thanks - found my way to the terminal 😁
Welcome to HIVE, and nice to meet you!
Also, nice to meet the whole gang... hehehehe... Somehow, I have a feeling that poor Tamika has a hard time with the others... 😃 You can see from the photos... they are troublemakers... 🤣
Thanks 😊 And Tamika also says thanks ;) yes, she is a poor little baby and never gets enough food, love, attention... ;0) and in a few minutes I will have to wake her up and drag her to work. Even though it is still dark and cold outside. Tough life :)
Welcome to the HIVE blockchain! I hope you have fun here while earning a little crypto! You have some lovely photos, but that B&W with your dog in the marsh, in silhouette, is superb! 😊
Thank you! I have about a thousand pictures of my dog on my phone. And a few of them turned out good ;)
Still learning about Hive. Could you for example explain to me what the "manually curated" means in the reply with Inner Blocks? Thanks so much 😊
Your doggie is pretty, no doubt. But, it was more the silhouette and the minimalism of the landscape that jumped at me. What a powerful combination you captured in that shot! Bravo!
On Hive, "curated" means someone has upvoted your post and possibly left a comment. There are ways to do it automatically, via bots. But, the "manually curated" term means that a real human being, not merely a bot, has visited your post, read it, and left an upvote and comment. So, I actually logged out of my personal account and logged-in as InnerBlocks to give you an extra upvote from that account. InnerBlocks has several curators that can do that. Only a few extra pennies, perhaps, but still a good thing! 🙂
Thank you for the explanation! That is helpful :)
That day at the beach was very foggy. That's what created the minimalism. Little light, hardly any colours. It was really cozy and quiet :)

oh, that is simply amazing! It is wonderful that you and the fog visited the beach at the same time! 🙂
The fog was there first :0) I almost ran to the beach to experience the atmosphere. Love the way that fog quitens the world. Hopefully I'll one day catch some fog while out kayaking :)
A very warm welcome and hopefully some discussions on AI and Microsoft Copilot 🤩
Thank you! Yes, Copilot... Much to talk about!
Welcome!! When I was very young I had a cat named Loki. I named him purely for the phonetics, I had no idea back then what kind of a name I had given him.
... or so you thought... There was probably a little trickster somewhere nearby, whispering names in your ear ;0)
Thank you for the welcome :)
lol!
Dear @kerstin42, welcome to hive - its so cool to finally have you here! I also think, that @borniet, @louis88 and @rivalzzz could be interested in reading more about you.
I am so much looking forward to reading more ai & ethics content made by @kerstin42 in the future!
Thank you 🙏😊
Welcome! I've lived in Germany, but not made it to Denmark yet. I hope you enjoy Hive. It's different to other social media and better in some ways. We are a small community, but very diverse.
The ducks look cute. We just have cats and a chicken.
!BEER
Thanks! Yes, I have heard about the diversity and that there might be fewer trolls here. That'd be great :)
But just one chicken? Aren't they like ducks and like to be in groups?
We had more chickens, but just one now. She seems fairly happy anyway.
I recently downgraded from five ducks to three. Definitely better. Also, even with three (two females) there are far too many eggs to eat.

Thanks for the warm welcome, @acgalarza! Loving the Hive vibes already. Lots to figure out - but The Terminal is helpful - as is reading and playing around :)
Your podcast invite sounds fun. I am always happy to chat about business & ethics in AI (bias, open tools, real-world lessons). English or German both work.
Cheers from the windy north :)
Hi @kerstin42! I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying HIVE this far. It is an amazing Blockchain and the community is great! I'm glad you found @theterminal! They were vital in my beginnings in HIVE. Without them, I might not be here today.
Regarding the Podcast; are you active in Discord. Let me know and we can discuss the details. I'm excited about the possibility to collaborate with you and talk about such topics.
Yes, one definitely needs help with starting here :)
I send you a message on discord :)

Hi @kerstin42 welcome to Hive. I'm @palomap3 from Lovesniper OCD team.
It seems that you are going through a period of significant life changes. It is interesting to see the contrast between your rural life and your profession related to new technologies. The beginning will be somewhat difficult, but I think you have made a wise choice. There will undoubtedly be many experiences that you can share and from which we can learn. I love your little domestic zoo, hehe. You can tell us about Tamika, Loki and those adorable ducklings at Hive Pets. I am an animal lover, but I have only ever lived with a dog, and it was the most wonderful thing I have ever had in my life.

Thank you so much for the pointers! Looking into all of those :)
Yes, my life is currently in flux. And now and then it feels a little overwhelming. But mostly I think I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be German-AI-Ethics-Duck-Lady in Denmark :0)

BEER.Welcome onboard @kerstin42 like you, I like cats too. We have this mother cat that usually bears new kittens every 3 months. It's good that ethics in AI are taught at school as many students are getting very much dependent on it. Nice to meet you
Wow! How cute!
What do you do with so many kittens though? I am thinking about maybe letting my dogs have puppies once. But I am afraid of having more puppies than good people to give them to.
Well, one of our neighbors who is a cat lover requested to have these kittens in this photo so these cuties are already with her just few months ago. Puppies are cute too. I'm not sure if breeding dogs is a kind of business there in Denmark, it is quite popular here in the Philippines.
Ah, if you already know where to give them that is great. So I need to look for a neighbor who wants to take 1 to 14 Great Dane puppies ;) In Denmark most people get their pets from shelters. So there isn't a business here. But interesting to learn about the Philippines :)
I guess pet shops are not popular there in Denmark, am i right? I have a brother who buys and sells exotic pets before. Our house was like a mini zoo those times.
I wouldn't mind living in a mini zoo :) sometimes... I had chickens living in my house this year. Hatched them myself from eggs. It was really cute having them inside. But also messy and smelly ;)
Haven't seen a single pet shop in Danmark so far 🤷
Do you sell the eggs? so you have ducks and chickens that's so cute do you grow and sell them? I had a cousin who used to have chickens at her home at first she did not want to slaughter it for food because she was taking care of it until it grows so she did not feel it right to do so like the feeling of animal cruelty nor sell it but later on she gave it up, she started selling her chickens and chicks as her neighbors continued to order, chicken meat lovers.
Welcome .... enjoy the ride :)
Looking forward for your content...
Thank you! I don't have a final plan yet on how exactly to contribute. But I will see and learn in the next weeks :)
a community encouraging first-hand content, and each individual living their best life.
Welcome to the Hive blockchain!
Thank you! Am curious to learn about all of you :)
Hi @kerstin42
so nice to have you on Chain now and love to dicuss even more of your core topics.
This is huge and I guess the world need to understand a bit more on this.
Hi @detlev - thanks again for the welcome!
I’m excited to dig into “Ethics in AI” here. Topics I’d love to explore (but certainly not limited to these): bias & fairness in training data (and how to test/mitigate). Transparency. Data rights & consent for training. Accountability, audits & safety cases (esp. in healthcare). Human-in-the-loop. Open vs. closed models & digital sovereignty. carbon footprint of AI... and there is sooo much more :)
I’m still learning the ropes here on Hive. do folks usually post longform on their own blog and then share to communities? or start directly in a community? Happy for pointers on where this kind of content fits best, if you have ideas :)
So we can expect some cool reads and even more - interesting stories and discussions
Great to have you here
Interesting work. So are we doomed or not? What's the scoop?
Thanks! And as always when talking with people in ethics part of the answer is: It depends... Short scoop: not doomed - but outcomes follow data + design + incentives. If we feed biased data and optimize only for clicks/costs, we get messy results. If we set good guardrails (testing, transparency, human-in-the-loop) and align incentives, AI is actually useful (think medical topics). Two checks I use: Who benefits, who’s left out? Could a non-expert understand and contest the decision? (If not, fix the interface/process.)Happy to share checklists/templates in follow-ups. I find it genuinely exciting to live right now, in a moment when so many sci-fi scenarios are either coming true - or not. Dystopia or utopia isn’t prewritten; it can go both ways. Our generations are the ones setting the path, choice by choice, design by design.
TL;DR: Not apocalypse - governance and good habits. (Also, ducks remain skeptical but supportive.)
Thank you for the great detailed reply! My assessment of how AI will be used aligns with yours, specifically the question: "Who benefits?"
I view AI like a hammer.
A hammer can be used to build houses or it can be used as a weapon against the defenseless.
All a matter of who wields it and for what purpose do they use it?
While I'd enjoy the future if it went Star Trek, there's also the chance it will go Terminator.
These are indeed exciting times to be alive!
-cheers
Exactly! I’ll be fighting for the Star Trek version. I often use Trek in class to help students imagine a pro-social, science-plus-ethics utopia. We need more positive narratives - if people only hear Terminator-style doom, they disengage.
AI is a hammer, and we can choose to build with it: open science, fair access, transparency, accountability - so when we ask “who benefits?”, the answer could be everyone.
Count me in for shaping that bright future with our AI hammer 🖖
