Library Life

in #library5 years ago (edited)

If I had a dollar for every time I was asked, "When will the library be open again," well, I would have a decent but indefinite sum of money, anyway.

Our community is tired of lockdowns, and there has been little COVID impact despite widespread flaunting of restrictions and regulations in town. The library district administration and some of the managers, however, are extremely fearful. Good news, though! It seems the elected board of directors wants to reopen, too. So now it is apparently down to the tedious task of policy. Ugh.

The latest proposal seems to include a strict mask mandate for all who enter district facilities, perhaps an appointment process to browse the stacks so we minimize numbers, and continuing our moratorium on meetings and events. It's better than nothing, but it still strikes me as more security theater to cater to the COVID Karens than anything else.

We will see.

Meanwhile, I have a bad sore throat today. Must be COVID, right? Maybe I should join the Chicken Littles and see if it's any fun.

Sort:

Make sure your vitamin D, zinc, and C levels are sufficient. Keep it low carb. This will help you no matter what you have. If masks are being enforced ... stay at home ... stay at home anyways ... so you won't strain your vascular/respiratory system or risk a secondary bacterial infection, or pass it on to an individual who perhaps has a compromised health condition. Get some sleep.

We're tired of lockdown too. Over here the numbers are starting to fall and they are already talking of opening up schools again. I might be tired of it but I think they should wait just a bit longer so we don't have to go through the whole lockdown dance again in a month or two.

Btw, when it's the library opening back up? :0D

Our schools have been open this year. The numbers don't seem to consistently track with policy anywhere.

Its as if they are drawing random actions to take from a hat!

Perhaps even a bacon hat?

Bacon tickets from a bacon hat! :D

So much of it is perception and signaling. It's a game.

GASP YOU HAVE THE COVIDS OH NOES D:

The mask thing is really grating me at the minute. At least that should be over tonight or tomorrow again for us as far as I'm aware -_-

Do you have the people per square metre thing over there? Over here each place works out how many people they can contain with that rule and just counts them in and out (in the case of the larger places that you can't see all the way into anyway, smaller places that you can see the entirety of people generally count themselves in and out if they actually have any awareness beyond themselves).

There has been some discussion about occupancy limits based on square footage, and we have had our seating arranged for social distancing at our computers for almost a year now. And yes, counting people in and out has been considered among our options.
