Exercise can be a chore, it can be something you have to do, to keep your body the way it is, to make people think you are attractive, mentally or physically, responsible, muscled, etc., and because you want to live longer (well, that is what I am told I should want)
Or, exercise can be a gift, a reward, the privilege of refining your body and its capabilities, of constantly adapting to stress, something done to refine your own qualities, an exertion you actually appreciate because you accept that you had full control and choice over what you did and will continue to do
You can approach everything in life as a costly habit, a chore, a bother, or you can approach it as a reward, an experience, a lesson
But, you always make the choice, even if you argue determinism, it is determined that you made the choice you wanted, you cannot want something you did not choose more than what you did choose, except in retrospect, but that is a massively different state, you are learning from your experience and realising you could be better off with teh alternative, you were not actually realising your choice was impaired or not a choice at all.
