RE: Digital ID and Hive

in #life11 days ago (edited)

Apologies for going off topic with my reply, but you gave me enough food for thought to do so.

There was (and still is) a thoroughly interesting concept on hive. Sometime ago, a NFT was launched that when purchased, gave everyone access to the posting key of an account. Thus, the content written by that particular account could be from any of the holders of that NFT.

Anonymity combined with the digital identity that an "author" imposes on a piece of writing or visual artifact is an interesting act of performance art.

Random thought on "sell me this pen" (the pen being the platform, the account, the service that enables expression, like hive) - you can use the device to communicate intent, threat, joy, love, or any other number of things, but the pen is just an agent of the potential embodied in those who wield it.

Sort:

It's apparent that just because Capitalism exists doesn't mean we have to use it.

Have your read parts of larimer's book "More Equal Animals" I am sure you know he was the developer who was behind bitshares, steem (the original code from which hive forked) - and a few other things.

It has some interesting musings on the right to "opt out" of systems. :)

I haven't read the book, but I have spoken to Dan a few times on Hive. I appreciate the heads up.

Thanks!

I am reminded of another account with a similar feature that arose before NFT's became available. It might have been on Steem before the Forkening. It didn't last very long, as when people could post information without being identified and their personal accounts suffer the consequences, all manner of tales were told.

I liked it quite a bit.

I'd quite like to read that, if you recall the name of the account at any point. It is wonderful what people say when it is not tied to their identity. That is what makes places such as anonymous image boards so entertaining.

I am drawing a blank atm, so many years later, but I do recall the hilarity of folks discussing BernieSanders forthrightly without the fear of his Brobdingnagian DV's to temper their speech. If I remember, or even recall clues by which you might be able to search up the account, I will inform you, as I am very certain you would indeed enjoy it a lot.

If you do find it, my little writing analysis tool makes for a nice quick index of all the posts of an account, easily searchable :) It can also be used for blockchain archaeology and anthropology to those so inclined.
