The Time For Letting Other People Live My Life For Me Is Over

Out Of The Shell

If you are not living your authentic self then what's the point of living? It makes no sense to not live the true you. Otherwise you are just putting on a front and you may be doing that to please other people at the same time. I have made up in my mind to live my own life. What I mean is that I have chosen to make my own choices and not allow others to live my life for me. Let me give you some examples. Going to college was half of my choice and half my parents idea. Although I was going to marry my wife anyways at some point, getting married at the time that my wife and I did was mostly her choice. Giving up on producing music was my mother's idea and I followed suit. I think you get my point by now.

I'm 24 and for some reason I feel behind in life. This is mainly because I'm a self starter and I think "What If?". I know I am here in this particular life junction for a reason. From here on out there will be no more decisions made for my life by other people. At least as much as I can control of course. There are tons of people right now living someone else's life. This was my moment to be REAL and I made sure not to sugar coat this post. Part of being a creator is going to those vulnerable and raw places. I hope you can look at your own life and remove the coats of sugar that may be there. Much love.

What are some life choices you've made that were not your ideas?

Life :

  • Only you can change your life. NO one can do it for you.
  • Sometimes it’s very hard to move on.but once you move on,you’ll realise it was the best decision you have ever made.
  • Your Parents may not be perfect but they are the most precious gift god has ever given to you.
    Past time :

A year changes a lot.

  • When I look back on my life,I see pain, mistakes and heartache.

Present time :

  • Now,when I look into the mirror,I see strength,Learned lessons and pride in myself.
  • Don’t afraid of outnumbered,eagles fly alone,pigeons flock together.
  • Criticisers are those people in our life who bring out our flaws, take them positively.
  • Whatever you do, good or bad, people will always have something negative to say.just ignore them.

That picture speaks a thousand words. That's exactly how it is. One year it's "Do this!" The next it's "Do That!". Just figure out what you want and do that. People will always give their opinions.

The older we become, the more we understand. One of such things is becoming aware of the choice. That is, any things to which we aspire should be what we really want. I will explain .... if you go to university, then you should really want this. If you go to the university because your parents make you - that's the worst case scenario. First of all because you will not have the desire to study there. You will do it mediocre. And if you go to learn at your own will - then you will strive to achieve results. You will do this with the passion and get pleasure from it. This applies to all types of activities.

You should listen to people close to you but ..... but we must do as our heart and your mind tells you. This is our life and we are responsible for it. How many people live a strange life. It is sad. But in fact this is also their choice. To live not with one's life is their choice. You can always change your life. Simply, many do not realize this and "drown" in everyday life. By the way we are the same age.

This is the comment of the day! I couldn't agree more.

Simply, many do not realize this and "drown" in everyday life

This is why I try to help as many as possible to tap into who they really are and use their gifts. People are so worried about the day to day things that they never truly LIVE

@humanearl, I listen and choose any decision from my parents before finish my studying. Then after they give opportunity to choose any decision about my life only me. But I get more advice from them coz they had lot of life experience. Currently I'm going my selected way with my family passion.

Hey if that what really excites you then I say go for it. Just give it your all.

Well in 9 out of ten people story is similar to yours buddy and so is mine.

Similarly will sure have the time when I will be saying that as well. That i truly believe in .

The day job that I am in ,is not my will to do it but seems like the condition is that way will have to do it for now. I am kinda sure will leave that in few months.

What kind of work do you want to do instead?

Travelling is on top of my list :)

We are the masters of our own destiny. The choices we make ultimately resonate later in our life.
If you pick up one end of a stick then your are picking other side of the stick automatically. Same is the case with our decisions. We have to suffer of happy due to the decisions made in our life. Then why someone else should make our decisions.
You are very right in assessing that by breaking the shackles to depend on others we can truly live a free life.

I often hear people talk about what they should have done or what they could have done. So they live their lives with regrets. I don't want to live with any regrets.

I really appreciate your point of view. It's our lives and we are the captains of our souls. So we should use our own decisions to steer clear of thr storms and challenges of life. Thank you for such an enlightened piece of sharing.

Thanks for understanding.

to join steemit completely it was not mine but glad that i made this :D

Well yea I can say it was a good path to take for the time being.

I have the opposite problem, I do things my way and I end up pissing family members off because I’m so selfish lol. Sometimes I wish I had listened to my family more than i wouldn’t be in the shithole I’m in today. In some ways you should be grateful I think it could be a lot worse.

Yea there are two extremes in this case. You can listen to others so much that you never make your own decisions and you can not listen to anyone at all. For me I don;t mind advice but at the end of the day I have to filter out the advice that adds to my life and that which I think subtracts from it.

I every time going positive my own way with my lovelies assistance. I don't care another words. Also I know how will I do that and moving there.

It's good to have help of course.

Now that is a message I can get behind!

This is what happens when you have big dreams but no one seems to get behind you. You then reach a point where you lock in, have self awareness and become self confident.

Confidence, this is often the subject of turmoil for myself. You are definitely right, the ball is in no one’s court but your own if you want to realize those dreams you need to play your own game and not someone else’s. I got your back brother!

Travelling to stay with my uncle wasn't my idea. Got bitten by snake over there and staying with my elder sister also was never my idea. Apparently my mum has made 90% decision in my life not until 6 years back, I started taking my own decisions. I have learnt a lot from those experience which has helped me to build my inner strength to make the right decisions.

Oh dang. Was it a venomous snake?

It was. Couldn't walk well for weeks

@humanearl I totally agree with you. You should do what you want to do. I have many people in my life tell me what I should do and at the end of the day if they were wrong they can just say "Oh Sorry" and walk away. You have to live with that decision/bad choice that they advised you to take. I make sure that I always think for myself and the choices I make good/bad/somewhere in the middle are MY CHOICES and not someone else's. Oh and if others don't like it, it's simple I JUST DON'T CARE... LOL! Great post my man. Keep on being real.

I get you bro. Not only that but people who want to make decision for you already have their own lives. I don't get the need to dictate what other people do.

Amen! You have figured a lot out for a 24 year old. My UpVote is well deserved.

I wouldn't say that. I am just trusting God and walking my path in faith. It has been scary at times but I know that as long as I am working on what God put me here to do then I have absolutely nothing to worry about. Thanks for understanding.

Indeed, as i read this post about life it makes me realized how wonderful life is. If we only understand how awesome life is trials and death would be useless because if we enjoy the life that we have it would be priceless. i will continue to read this post and thank you for this inspiring words.. looking forward for your success in life. God bless

It's just nice to see you understand where I'm coming from. Thanks alot.

@humanearl, nice post sir, i share same sentiment with what you have here. I like to live my life, not anyone else' cos humans are difficult to please and if i do, i will always second best someone. The life is too short to live, so why live a lie?Nice work sir

There is no point in living a lie. At that point you are not living.

This is the Best post av seen today . I love to read each and every post of yours. Sometimes I don'rt get time to read the full content but I make sure that whenever I am free I read the whole thing. Thanks for sharing...

No worries. I'm just sharing my heart. This topic hits home for me and I feel others can relate in a big way.

Sir really intresting post . I am your big fan sir

I joined the military at 17... partly my choice.. 33% ..or so.

Dang that's young. What was one thing you took away from that experience?

Not to trust the government.. plus some combat experience in Panama... good times

However I did learn discipline there..

Very inspiring and moving. I really much wish to do this, but many times I feel trapped in the sense that I'm still not economically independent and have been struggling to be, so when others who are economically independent around me tell me things I should do that I don't really want to do, I feel a strong urge to follow their advice and let go of certain passions. I'm still very reluctant, because these things include being here on Steemit all the time.

Very pretty landscapes, by the way. I enjoy watching your videos a lot because of that. Could you share some of your favourite reggae bands? I enjoyed the sound of your intro.

I feel for you. I understand where you are. What I did was basically ask myself what i wanted to be doing. What kind of work I wanted to do and what kind of impact I wanted to have in the world. From there I simply built my life around that which is tough. I have a family so it was even tougher for me to make that decision. We have had to sacrifice alot to even get to where we are now and we are still not out of the woods so to speak.

So just ask yourself how you want your life to look and if money was no issue what would you be doing? Then go from there and try to take action steps to align your life in that way.

My fav reggae bands/artists are Stephen Marley, Steel Pulse, Richie Spice, Lee Scratch Perry, Eek-a-Mouse,

Actually the intro is by Eek-a-Mouse. It's called Ganja Smuggling

Very wonderful post
Video you have been a good person really successful

You have to stand for what you believe in for you to be successful and happy with that your destiny will be in your hands

Right on and also know that it will all work out.

Yes with God by your side , everything will be perfect!

Doing things just to please others without enjoying is not real living. I think if people around you really love you and care about you sooner or later they will have to accept choices and decisions you made even if they disagree with you at first. We got exclusive right to make either good or bad decisions on our own. We shouldn't waste time on living we don't like plus we got only one life to live...

One life that's all. Great insight and thanks for understanding.

@humanearl,
I also not living in my life! From day #1, it didn't happen! But I hope in future I am trying to make my life by getting help from decentralization! I mean by getting help from STEEM.

Cheers~

well at least you are actively taking steps towards your future. That's what matters is that you have a plan and you are working towards that.

I feel like that and I’m 37 so maybe it’s this year vibe...?

My vote and reestem.
Thanks for make me feel inside a true tribe once again <3

Well we all come to different understandings at different points in life. Many can relate to you. I do.

You are wise beyond your years. It takes courage to live life on your own terms. It requires you to take responsibility for your decisions. Many people love to follow others' advice, because they have someone to blame when it doesn't work out.

When I was younger decisions were made that impacted my life. At the time, I didn't always like them, but now I appreciate it. Most notably was when we moved from the Boston area to Illinois when I was in eighth grade. On top of that my parents enrolled my in a Catholic school. I know these types of decisions are made for use when we are young, thankfully, my parent's intentions were well meaning. It didn't always produce the results they expected.

In particular, the discussion about free will in religion class changed my life, and drove the Nuns crazy for the next few years. I was always a thinker and the way they presented the concept of free will struck a chord with me. Basically, it was presented that God gave us free will and we needed to use that to make decisions that would get us into heaven otherwise we would end up in hell. In my mind I saw this as coercion, not free will. When I expressed this, I was told we would discuss it later but later never came.

This conflicted with how I saw God. In my mind he was kind, loving, and forgiving. Why would he punish our souls for making a mistake. Would he really send us to Hell for eating meat on Friday? I think not.

Eventually, the Nuns gave me a boilerplate response to these type of question. They would tell me I need to have faith and just believe.

I never asked what I was supposed to have faith in or who I was to believe in, I just answered that question for myself. I decide to have faith in myself. That taught me to think for myself and make my own decisions. Yes, I made a few that weren't great, but I own that. Thankfully, none were ones that prevented me from making amends or changing my course of action if it didn't go as planned

Love this! When it comes to religion it gets even trickier because there are many customs or norms that may or may not even be beneficial to your life. In fact some may even harm you. We are the same in that we both question things and want to not be put in boxes.

As far as God and free will well I would love to dig into that. Care to discuss it on discord? I'm there @HumanEarl if so. Love your thoughts and thanks for even understanding.

I would love to discuss free will with you. I'm still trying to get the hang of discord. Hopefully, I will have some time in the near future.

always do what you love , i m also 24 , still i feel like i m falling behind , i ve waisted so much time making the wrong decisions , the regrett of not doing what i love , although i appreciate your love for music creation , go ahead and amaze !

That was an amazing and inspiring comment. We are in the same boat. But one thing I have learned is to take steps to align your life with what you want. Check this out https://betterhumans.coach.me/the-japanese-concept-ikigai-is-a-formula-for-happiness-and-meaning-8e497e5afa99

Right. Some people would rather be ok with the way things are than try to change the world.
