Cougars aren't always over 35

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Looking back to living in my old house that I lived in for 10ish years the thing I would say I missed most was the park next door. I would go there on the daily sometimes, it was a huge provincial park, with so many places to explore!

I remember one of the last times I went there I had a hiking companion with me cousin Jay. He has been living with us for a few months, taking some time off work to golf and be with family before he went back up north.

At least a few times a week I would ask Jay to come for a hike with me and as much as he said he loved hiking he would never come.

Jay was leaving town the next day and he finally said yes to a hike with Chad and I.

The park was full of trails but Cougar Canyon was where I would take him! It was my favourite place in the park and I knew we could reach the lookout by sunset.

I didn't do a lot of sunset hikes on my own, it's kinda scary to be hiking in the dark on the side of a mountain with a 15 lbs dog named Chad in a place called Cougar Canyon. It has that name for a very specific reason and it is not because there are a lot of hot 35+ women lurking around.

Jay was so shocked at the beauty of the park he said he couldn't believe how amazing it was and that is was basically in our backyard. He said it was an outdoor wonderland, one of the most beautiful places he had ever seen and cousin Jay had travelled the world.

He asked if this is where I hiked on the regular and I told him it was.

Jay would be kicking himself for a long time once he was back up north, he couldn't believe he didn't take advantage of what was right around the corner.

Cousin Jay said the whole time he thought I was walking up the hill behind our house and then walking back down. It was true, I was walking up the hill but it was the world beyond the ridge that I was spending my time inside.

Get out of your comfort zone, go outside, meet new people, check out places out you have never been! You really never know what could be right around the corner!

Thank you :) I am glad to hear you enjoyed it!~

That picture is spectacular. This country is so beautiful 😎

I know so beautiful, we are lucky to be here!

Sounds like a great place to escape reality for a bit, and maybe spot a cougar. where i use to live, there was much more to see/do. here its just fields for miles, that you can't trek across, unless the farmer doesn't mind.
There is 1 beach nearby too. which is busiest during summer, or seeing the odd winter fishing.

Aww that is too bad, do you have plans to go back there? I feel like I need to be able to enjoy my surroundings. I haven't explored enough in my new area but I do know there is a lot to explore. Maybe I am trying to inspire myself lol
I think the cougars see you long before you ever see them, although they sometimes make funny sounds which is also quite frightening.

can imagine the senses kick in more, when wandering round their territory.. i'd love to hike their once, just with the camera, to see if theres 1 to spot from a distance..
canadas something i must admit. the great outdoors, and the atmosphere must be uplifting, like scotland here has that too.
maybe 1 day i might head south for a weekend, see what old friends are about, but living here now. 15yrs on.. 6 of those years it took time to settle.. there is a great forest up here. but a good 2hrs drive.. you mighta heard of it.. sherwood forest.. robin hood land as it's known.

Ohh so you are living in Nottingham then? I've been to the London and south but never north!
I also went to Scotland for a wedding, we stayed at Dundas castle outside of Edinburgh it was quite lovely. Played Highland games all day, it was an amazing wedding!
I was only in Scotland for the week though and feel like I could have seen more of the country side. Oh well I guess I will have to plan another trip back there one day.

Edinburghs nice.. went thru there once by coach during the freezing season..
Where in the south did you visit ?
Nottinghams a bit of a drive from where i'm based.. more east of the place..

MY girlfriend moved to Brighton so I stayed with here for s few days last year, I plan to stop in next time I am in Europe. Hopefully this spring. Brighton is adorable I loved it there.

it's alright there, plenty to see / hear / do.. originally grew up not too far from that town.. always packed with things going on.

That is some great advice! I am constantly being shocked to find little secret corners around where I live that I never knew were there. Who would have known that there was a very large and beautiful canyon right here in Alabama? Or a ski resort? yep that's right, we have one here. I had lunch in a cave a few weeks ago at the Rattlesnake Saloon, I had no idea! Nice blog, just because of this I'm going to go back to the Rattlesnake for more photos and a write up soon. 😎

Rattlesnake Saloon! That sounds awesome and is somewhat ironic to this post. The peninsula jutting out across the water in the photo is called rattlesnake point! Yes there are rattlers there across the lake, hopefully you don't encounter any snakes at your lunch.
I look forward to seeing your post on the Rattlesnake Saloon, maybe we can start a new hashtag, #touristinyourowntown might be a bit long.

Ha ha, yes a little long maybe but I like it! No snakes at lunch with me that day, just my wife, my son, and my beautiful Daughter-N-Love. 😊

Lol yes snake free lunches are always the best way to go!

Also thanks for the resteem! That is awesome, I appreciate it :)

Wow! Gorgeous!

Thank you! It truly was a beautiful sunset.

Looks like a fairytale

It is a pretty magical place!
