That sounds like an awesome game for learning on. I had a cheap old plastic set that my brother had before me and never used with utterly vague instructions. I used play about myself until someone challenged me when I was about 11 or 12 and I whupped them good and solid and I realised all that time staring at it and working out what could move where had really helped me.

No, really? You mean Facebook actually has something decent going for it! That's pretty cool!

That's about all I've used it for these past few years. Texting algebraic notation to each other is how the pieces move around.
