The Little Lady sounded frantic as if the WiFi had dropped out in the middle of a movie on Netflix.
Hang on, lass. I'm coming up!
Alas, I was not coming up as in to get this party started. Nor were we settled on on the sofa watching rubbish movies and eating popcorn.
No, I was scrambling up a hill in the deep dark depths of a thickly wooded little forest near my house.
As we are technically only allowed out once a day for exercise we have been quite lucky in that we live right next door to a forest.
It's quite the atmospheric place and has been great for the kids to romp about in during our allotted exercise hour.
At least until now.
What is it? Are you ok?
Finally, I hauled my way to the crest of the hill that the Little Lady was standing at.
She was pointing to the base of a tree and smiling.
Look, Daddy, isn't that amazing?
She exclaimed in delight.
My eyes followed her pointing finger.
I recoiled in horror.
What in the name of all that is flaming and fuckity!?
What was this twisted and obscene anathema that stung at my eyes???
A house? A miniature house? Tucked into the base of a tree!?
I reeled back and spun in a panic.
Not just one!?
They were everywhere!?!
Stay back, little one. There is danger here!!
I barked, my voice shrill with terror.
Don't be silly, Daddy. They're just fairy houses!
She yelled, running from one tree to the next in excitement.
Fairies. Of course! The blasted ancient enemies of man. It looks like they had pierced the veil and were setting up an outpost only a short hop from where I lived.
I tried to swallow but my mouth was bone dry as if there was too much tonic in my figurative gin.
We had to get out of here. Before they took us.
I grabbed my daughter's hand.
Quickly lass. The hour is almost up. We must be away.
I lied so as not to alarm her at the thought of an ancient and evil incursion into the lands of man.
As we raced through the woods we saw their sign. Brazen beyond imagining.
At the treeline that marked the boundary of the woods we almost stumbled into a sentry, sent there by the wicked fairies of the woods themselves. No doubt to slaughter and harvest the souls of the innocent.
I pulled the Little Lady down and around the archaic dread guardian and at last we burst into the safety of the open fields.
At least, we were safe... for now.

I have friends who'd done something similar in the woods near them and put up little motivational signs which have had good feedback in the community.
Not sure the last thing I left in the woods is worthy of a photo or praise :O

I was really impressed, the whole place is littered with them and tomorrow I have been roped into stone painting duty! I am rubbish at drawing though.

Perhaps some HIVEy type treasure hunting could be incorporated, but I guess you'll end up drawing fairies - which will look great I am sure.

I can only imagine what it would have been like for your little tacker...Much have seemed so magical to come across a little fairy colony...Little does she know that once they have established a beachhead they will flood in and take over...Like it's AD 793 all over again!

I've heard of people doing these kinds of things. Seems like fun, if not a little girly. :) Need some proper trolls and ogres about. Maybe you can do that. I don't think you'll need a whole lot of painting/drawing skills if you don't have them to bring said beasts to life. :)

We think it is the local kids. We have some stones and my daughter is going to do some girly ones and I am going to do a skull and crossbones or something :OD

Ah, the magic of children! We collected the rocks to paint. Some of them were a bit dirty and mossy. We bought them home and washed them in the garden. NExt day it wasn't quite so sunny and I said hey, will we go paint these rocks now? They looked at me as if I was nuts. Maybe they will change their mind by the weekend!

This is so cool, now I want to do this too! In our own yard, but in some public parks as well. We have found painted rocks in some places before. people would leave them for others to “hunt”, and when you find one, you’re supposed to take it but leave a different one (made by yourself) somewhere else...
Ooo I didn't know that. I suggested taking one but my daughter was like No way!

Here they put bears in the windows, for a bear hunt. When I got my shotgun out to join in, they were not amused. Seems to be for kids.

Ahh so cute XD It's like when we went for a walk in a quarry recently, kids had a great time there and we found that at least one person has been in and some stage and done a whole pile of those rock balancing things. The kids added a couple (I'll chuck 'em in the next hs misc whenever I get around to writing it) and then we left.
Not nearly in as much of a hurry as you XD
