It's Just Squiggly Lines: A Stupid Name for Something that Just Looks Like Squiggly Lines

in #life8 years ago (edited)

@NoNamesLeftToUse The Writer/Artist Himself did something.

How's that for an opening line?

Look at this:

NoNamesLeftToUse - It's Just Squiggly Lines.jpeg
It's Just Squiggly Lines

I made that.

Mmhmm

It's probably stupid of me to say It's Just Squiggly Lines, especially after spending quite awhile making it, but whatever. It's Just Squiggly Lines.

To make something like that, I cheat. Technically, it's not cheating, but it makes some physical artists feel better if I say I cheated since I'm just a digital artist and some of them physical artist types don't like my kind.

So anyway. That's not really true, but it was fun to say. If there is a physical artist out there who does think digital artists are scum, I hope I made them feel better for at least a few seconds, but unfortunately, that part of the article is over.

Now Where Was I?

Oh yeah!

First, one must split their blank digital canvas into four sections using the trusty mirror tool. Then, you just start making lines. You make lines go this way and then that way. Using different colors helps, unless you're not into that kind of thing.

In digital art, we have a thing called layers. When I'm done making random lines go this way and that way, I then apply another layer on top and do it again. This is why, when one looks closely, they can see lines going this way and that way on top of other lines that go that way and this way.

I do that for a few hours.

Why does it take so long, you ask?

Because it's more than just some random-ass squiggly lines! It's not as easy as it looks, okay!

I'm calm now. I think I had too much coffee.

Anyway.

My break is going good. I did nothing, for the most part, and that felt good.

I discovered a way to get on the trending page for free. I think I'm on there about five times like some other people now. Quite the accomplishment. All you have to do is let them pay for it, then go there and say something stupid, or smart. Seems to be working well. No complaints yet, so that's good.

I got a few new followers doing that as well. Hi there!

I hope you weren't expecting me to be something special. I'm just a guy who made squiggly lines seem somewhat cool and then rambled about nothing for a few minutes after. It's no big deal, really. At least you're not expecting me to perform well, so that's a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. The honesty should come as no surprise, so that's good. Sometimes I like to joke around as well.

Anyway, I better get the hell out of here before I say too much.

Have a nice day!

Hahaha missed your posts <3 I'm glad you took a break from the break.

Yup. Taking breaks while I'm on break is something I perfected years ago. I used to be pretty good at the busy walk as well. That's just when you make it appear as if you're in a slow hurry to get somewhere, but you must have paper in your hand. If you don't have paper, people will think you're just walking, and not busy.

A clipboard or binder works better. Extra points if you are writing something on the clipboard or have a hint of a pensive frown, or both.

I once had a friend who went into management. He was always on some conference call or another; he would never be seen walking around the office without his wireless headset.

When he left the job, he finally decided to confide in me that about a third of the time, he wasn't even on the phone with anyone. Another third of the time, it was his wife.

Now that is a busy walk. He kept that going for years.

I'm having deja vu reading this comment. I'm almost certain we've had this conversation before except that time I didn't respond with how I'm experiencing deja vu. Or maybe we didn't have this conversation and now I'm just wasting your time? I don't know...

Yeah! We did. It's why I mentioned it.

You never waste my time. :)

I hope you weren't expecting me to be something special.

Newcomers: Do not believe this. Like, at all. In other words, this is bulls**t.

This man right here is one of the best steemians, most creative artists and basically the coolest dude you'll find on this platform. Ever. Plus three days.

Period.

Well, I did use the 'funny' tag. :)

Been taking somewhat of a break myself off and on so I never realized you were on break. The layers element to digital art programs was too much for my brain to handle on my own. I'd have to take a class to learn how to make squiggly lines like you. It's not easy if you don't know what you are doing.

I'm still learning what some of those fancy buttons do. With the layers though, if you have some red lines and then wanted to place some blue lines across without the colors mixing or distorting the red lines; you'd use a second layer on top of the red lines, place your blue lines, then you could merge the two layers to make one layer where the blue sits on the top of the red. It's like painting except you don't have to wait for the red paint to dry before adding the blue paint.

I really like this one, stay wierd and squiggle on 😏

Staying weird! I got this.

It looks like it's made of thick glass, I can see into it and through it in place. Very cool squiggling technique.

In the future I'm always talking about, entire walls of homes will be digitalized-- this would be a good one to have on file for parties and such.

Using layer after layer gives it somewhat of an optical illusion effect. I have to be careful not to cover too much up or I'll lose that. I do end up wasting a lot of time making random lines that end up getting covered... but whatever. Still fun.

These days I like to use the TV as a picture frame. Every few minutes a new art shows up. It's much easier than dragging all the art out of the basement because company is coming over.

The covering up of random lines sounds familiar from oil painting- sometimes the undercoats have a beauty of their own. Then I paint over it, and a whole new thing appears, that needs to be painted over too. They say there is no finished art, but is only art that is abandoned by the artist at some point.

Until the future gets here, the TV frame might have to do. Back when TVs had antennae, we used to watch a show called Ant Races, the static fuzz on the screen when there's no channel there to watch. Hours of endless entertainment.

It is like oil painting in a way and like I said in another response, I just don't have to wait for the paint to dry. I'd say I abandoned this the moment I merged nearly all of the layers and decided I didn't feel like making the faces look more like faces. Enough was enough! I think big googly eyes would have taken too much away from the scenery.

Those damn ant races... I used to try to zoom in, by putting my face as close to the screen as possible. I'm not sure how I'm still able to see those ants 30 years later, but whatever, they look cool.

but #GooglyEyes make everything better...

even squiggly lines!

Whoa!

This comment added so much value to my post.

Thank you!

Well, you know, that's just what I do... I go around upgrading stuff with my #GooglyEyes ;)

I'm trying to be professional about it, too. Which is why I have this word-watch-thing so I can spam the hell out of people when they say the magic words.

Thanks for your attention, I already feel a little bit better about myself now!

They are very pretty and colourful squiggly lines in an aesthetically pleasing pattern. Is that not enough for some people? XD

I need to do a whole lot of nothing sometime soon too, good idea.

goatsig

I might just end up doing a whole lot of nothing again tomorrow. As for the art, I've made a few pieces like this where I just mess around with the mirror and go nuts. A bit of chaos mixed in with simplicity and... done!

Dude glad you're back, I've come to love that dose of your brand of humor lol I did miss it, although I know breaks can be good. Unless they're bones, then probably not.. Unless you're into that kind of thing. In any case, have a Kit Kat. Or a Snickers. I wonder if you ate a Snickers would you write fluffy bunny reviews and your IRL friends will be like "Better?" Maybe all this time you've just been hungry...

I do get quite pissy if I'm hungry. I doubt a snickers would be enough to turn me into some kind of... what the hell would you even call that? Actually I'm still kind of out of it. I want to write some good stuff but I got the damn block again. Pushing colors around is always easy though. You know how that is. It's hard to stop doing that once you start.

Ya I could post so much art I made but there's not much I really have to say about a lot of it. The writing is the harder more "work" like part for me.My painting style developed from doodles. The whole process of making art for me is more about NOT thinking and just doing. I suppose I could write about how my process involves NOT thinking as much as possible over and over in slightly different ways. lol

A lot of my work comes from NOT thinking as well. Just a general idea. Some things come out of nowhere though, then I build on it.

When it comes to writing. Just know, more often than not, the people want to follow the artist as much as the art. How often do I really talk about the art? I just include myself along with the art and it seems to work well for an art blog.

Actually in your squiggly lines I can see the face of an evil Red Queen and poor blue stars trying to run away from her... I kind of like her though :)

It's good to see you're enjoying your break.

I'm happy you folks can actually see that being. I didn't want to go overboard on details because it doesn't blend in when you do that. I think it's a likable character. Those stars might be the bad ones. Who knows!

The break is good. I'm being quite lazy. It's nice for a change.

Yeah, who knows. It's the stereotypes that lead your first impressions-interpretations.

Be lazy, you need it. I'm doing the same these days. Spring time in Greece works wonders on tired brains and I'm charging my batteries as much as I can! :)

Hey sometimes squiggly lines are the prettiest kinds of lines! Better than boring straight ones!

Well, let's be honest here. Some of those lines are kind of boring and straight but at least they have a slight curve to them. Being even more honest now. I don't think any of the lines I make are ever straight. Even when I write something, I make sure to make it sloppy. I think that stands out more in this land of perfectionists.

Your squiggly lines look cool. The red dude, stars and emerald background in the middle are dope.
I'm glad today is not the day of bloody pictures from hell, they are kinda scary.

At least you can see the red dude. I got some asshole here trying to tell people this was computer generated. That might mean tomorrow we'll be seeing red! LOL

Screw the haters, just have fun and keep grinding, as time goes by all of them will be used as stepping stones.

All you have to do is let them pay for it, then go there and say something stupid, or smart.

That … sounds like a lot of fun.

It's uh . . . yeah!

You can like it or not, but there are some concious choices and decisions made in that piece. Abstract is that, abstract. You express yourself with colors and shapes and you chose what shapes and colours to show us. It´s easier to produce with digital tools, but art is not about the tool, it should´t be. And if the piece is done to make a point, that´s art too. :)

I was joking about just making random lines. There was some of that to make a base, but I didn't close my eyes when I did it. I also wanted the bottom center to look like a face, so I formed that but kept it from looking too much like a face. If you turn your head you can see the purplish faces as well. They're there, but they're not there at the same time.

I can see that "evil lord" face! ;)

I can see some weird faces in those squiggly lines. And it looks really amazing..
That break worked for you ;)

It did turn out good. It's quite simple to do and is safe to say I'm still on break but yeah, it's a decent piece to ease back in to the daily routine I suppose.

Your posts are awesome. I love your posts, they make me laugh. And these are not just squiggly lines, this is beautiful art. Less coffee and calm down. Lol

Way too much coffee! LOL...

...and yeah, it is more than just squiggly lines but I can't go a post without trolling my art for some reason. Just having fun.

You need make video of you making it out of sand. Speeding it up like 100x and then say well that took 10 hours to make. “It’s just squiggly lines” and erase the sand drawing! Boom you are now some kind of monk. You have ascended to level 9000 on Steemit.

Here, here, to winging more posts and having a funner time.

Look at those votes just a pouring in! Yup! So much fun! ...
Shoot me! LOL

Site is lagging in my side of the world and just ate my comment. I was too lazy for once to not type it out first in document. AS far as the votes I’m still waiting for mine to be casted. It’s spinning!!!!!!!!

I phoned in a blog late last night and it made a killing lol

Less = MORE ?!?!? Oh god what has happened here.

On a side note. Did just tell a friend I’d kill for a taco right about now. Say you are not eating a taco are you? ;)

You trade bullets for tacos? Sounds like a good deal to me!

This looks exactly as what I as a child was playing with. It’s tube with different col......you know what I mean. I always welcome your type of humor. It’s refreshing. It’s kind of unusual break you are taking. It’s like me quitting the job, but every morning showing up to say hello.lol

I just needed a few days off from posting. I needed some solid sleep time and it was nice to forget about thinking of a post for awhile. I still played around with my colors though. I can't seem to stop doing that.

Hi there Mr. Squiggles. Your digital art lines up nicely on the page. i enjoyed you explaining the process. Tell @nonametouse hello for me. Ha a nice day.

That was an incredibly vague explanation but I'm glad you appreciate it.

I'm renaming it "Dancing Cosmic Starfish" for the blue starfish in there. Welcome back!

That's a cool name... but I'm not much of a dancer. I suppose those starfish can do whatever they want though.

Thanks!

Oh, nice to see you are branching out into squiggly lines.

Yes. I felt it was time to broaden my horizons. I might even get into meme making too because I heard it's really hard to produce those big block letters and I like a challenge.

its mean you are a creative man

There are many android apps which can convert any picture into these fractal abstract art patterns.

I made this from scratch, like everything I do.

Do you see all of these colors pulled off the edges? Does that look like an android app?
Screenshot (345).png

*Edit: I'm just going to add this in: I think this is the third or fourth time you've come here just to be an asshole like that. I don't appreciate it.

Sorry I did not mean to hurt you. I have also made some of these using the app so I just wrote that comment.
You can see them here.
https://steemit.com/art/@rocksg/fractal-arts-designed-for-creative-commons-license-4-0

I made this from scratch. I didn't just take a photograph and push a goddamn button.

I noticed in your post you didn't even mention within the post or to anyone who asked how yours were actually made. People were telling you that you did a good job and that you're getting better, and you didn't even have the decency to tell them you simply:

I have also made some of these using the app

It seems you avoided answering their questions at all costs as if you had something to hide. Misleading patrons like that is what makes it harder for all digital artists to be accepted in the art community. It gives us a bad name.

You came here, you said, "There are many android apps which can convert any picture into these fractal abstract art patterns," you didn't vote for the post, so I assumed you were attempting to downplay my efforts or counter what I said in the post as if I wasn't telling the truth. Of course I'm going to get defensive. If I painted the house blue and you came along to tell everyone I bought blue siding, I'd be upset for the same reasons. Mine takes effort and a skill set, you're loading up a photo and pressing a goddamn button then taking credit for what the software made.

Thank YOU for pointing this out today.

Hello! I find your post valuable for the art community! Thanks for the great post! ARTzone is now following you! ALWAYs follow @artzone and the artzone tag, and support our artists!

Para mi eres un artista profesional, todas tus artes me encantan

Amazing blog post, following you.so glad that i found your blog.

All you have to do is let them pay for it, then go there and say something stupid, or smart. Seems to be working well.

My whole bio is about that lmao
Welcome to the club; see you at a few Trending posts! ;)
Cool art.

Hm, when I draw squiggly lines they look like...squiggly lines haha, definitely not like the fascinating, gorgeous kaleidescope you drew, more like a toddler given free reign with crayons and paper...

That is NOT just squiggly lines, I see stars and a martian and an upside down martian. ooh and some tiny upside down people standing on their heads on the martian's heads. And some sideways people going "hallelujah". Need I go on?

I like It!

Nice art, I want that star tattoo on my left asscheek.
