Sex Reassignment

I saw a post from a friend about Borris Johnson banning sex reassignment for minors at UK. I do have respect for peoples choices over their own bodies. I don't think I am the one or any other for that matter in a position to dictate to others how they will self identify in their lives, and more especially since this is my topic at their sex lives. But when it comes to minors my opinions shift to the other side of the spectrum.

So I did a little digging and I found this article
Sex-change treatment for kids on the rise
from 2012.

Some could argue the parents did the right thing. I wouldn't

Cited from the article

The drugs used by the clinics are approved for delaying puberty in kids who start maturing too soon. The drugs' effects are reversible, and Spack said they've caused no complications in his patients. The idea is to give these children time to mature emotionally and make sure they want to proceed with a permanent sex change. Only 1 of the 97 opted out of permanent treatment!

1 out of 97 decided to go for the least destructive option. My mind is blown.

The trend:

Is sexual reassignments to minors. I've been hearing about it in the news in several occasions I think it first started at the US or at least the first time I heard of such a case.

I don't agree with it, the reason is that I don't believe a person that is not legally allowed to participate in sex activities should be legally allowed to reform and shape his body by performing destructive surgeries. It should be commonly accepted that those decision should and must be made by adults.

At least he should have sex first before deciding his or her orientation. I find it criminal to allow kids to decide about matters that will for sure have an impact on their psychology so soon in their lives. I am not talking about any kind of civic discrimination that this would probably result on his/her/it choice but the outcome that it might later in his life not being what he hoped for.

As for the procedure. It is everything but simple and in most occasions it is not even just one procedure It takes at least 3 different procedures if everything workout smoothly for a successful reassignment and years of hormone therapies. I don't really think a kid can understand what that means for his daily life. And that is not an ice-cream that you regret for the vanilla flavor and now you are crying your ass off to get the chocolate instead. Is nothing like that.

Facial feminization surgery:
Occasionally these basic procedures are complemented further with feminizing cosmetic surgeries or procedures that modify bone or cartilage structures, typically in the jaw, brow, forehead, nose and cheek areas. These are known as facial feminization surgery or FFS.

Breast augmentation
is the enlargement of the breasts. Some trans women choose to undergo this procedure if hormone therapy does not yield satisfactory results. Usually, typical growth for trans women is one to two cup sizes below closely related females such as the mother or sisters.[8] Oestrogen is responsible for fat distribution to the breasts, hips and buttocks, while progesterone is responsible for developing the actual milk glands. Progesterone also rounds out the breast to an adult Tanner stage-5 shape and matures and darkens the areola

Voice feminization surgery:
Some MTF individuals may elect to have voice surgery, which alters an individual's vocal range or pitch. However, this procedure carries the risk of impairing a trans woman's voice forever, as experienced by transgender economist and author Deirdre McCloskey. Since estrogen alone does not alter a person's vocal range or pitch, some people take the risk that comes along with voice feminization surgery. Other options, like voice feminization lessons, are available to people wishing to speak with less masculine mannerisms.

Tracheal shave:A tracheal shave procedure is also sometimes used to reduce the cartilage in the area of the throat and minimize the appearance of the Adam's apple in order to assimilate to female physical features.

Buttock augmentation:
Some MTF individuals will choose to undergo buttock augmentation because anatomically, male hips and buttocks are generally smaller than those presented on a female. If, however, efficient hormone therapy is conducted before the patient is past puberty, the pelvis will broaden slightly, and even if the patient is past their teen years, a layer of subcutaneous fat will be distributed over the body, rounding contours. Trans women usually end up with a waist to hip ratio of around 0.8, and if estrogen is administered at a young enough age "before the bone plates close", some trans women may achieve a waist to hip ratio of 0.7 or lower. The pubescent pelvis will broaden under estrogen therapy even if the skeleton is anatomically masculine.

Just to name a few of the procedures required for male to female reassignment

Parenting 101 and why

Kids should be allowed to be kids.

With everything that comes with, the happy times the minor inconveniences and the process of building up character. Which comes with some no's every now and then. We all been their and we survived.

Call me insensitive but I find it overly irresponsible as society as a whole or as adult individuals to allow kids to decide from that young age about their future sexual activities, it is not about their favourite color for their next toy. "Yes John you can have a barbie, no john you can't cut your dick off" should be the responsible answer.

I don't know how this have become the norm in our societies is it because we are supposed to realise every wish a kid has? Shouldn't we as more responsible adults protect them even from their own mistakes.

They can do all the mistakes they want to do as adults but as kids there are certain dangers we should try to protect them from and I truly think this is one of them. I don't find it wrong if a kid want to sexually identify as gay straight or whatever but I find it obscure to allow sexual decisions to be made we should just sit them down and have a throughout discussion with them expressing our opinion and let them know about a time frame that the probably be more prepared and most importantly more experienced to decide for their sexual identification.

Give kids the right to be kids they can ruin their lives with every way they wish for when they are fully adults. Our role is to give them the tools they need to exercise critical thinking so they can avoid those mistakes if possible. We are not suppose to dictating but I think this might be one of the few exceptions it should be allowed.

Is it just me? I do hope not.

I would have to agree with you. Let kids be kids no matter how they feel about their own gender. Let their brains develop to adult brains and then they can make the best judgement for themselves as to how they want to live their lives.

I understand it might be confusing feeling "trapped" in the wrong body as a kid but I don't see any downside to waiting to perform any sort of surgery or reassignment procedures.
That is just my opinion as a father.

I am not a father but I don't thing being a father would make me change my mind on this matter anyhow.I was feeling trapped at anything as a kid. At school trapped at sports activities trapped kids cant take life making decisions. It is the main reason I always thought that professional orientation should be made after 25-30 +5 years to the current educational system. since life expectancy and all have risen way more than they was in the past I don't see any drawbacks on that.
