Multiplying 2-digit numbers using Lattice Method

in #math8 years ago (edited)

Lattice Method is another way of multiplying numbers. The size of the lattice depends on how many digits are being multiplied. Let me show you how to use this kind of method in multiplying 2-digit numbers.

Step 1: Create a lattice depending on how many digits you will multiply.

Step 2: Draw a diagonal lines in each box.

Step 3: Multiply the upper part.

Step 4: Multiply the lower part.

Step 5: Add each number in the diagonal lines.

Step 6: Checking.

The final answer is 375 and if we will check it , 25 x 15 = 375

very nice pam

Thank you sir :)

Good method... By the way thank you for resteemed my post. :)

Thank you so much my friend and you are always welcome :)

:) very cool stuff! its visually interesting as well..

You are very supportive, thanks Ben :D

:) Have a great rest of th day!

lattice method is somehow a complex method in performing some simple arithmetic, I only use a calculator for that. lol, just kidding hahaha

I prefer calculator also sir lol hahaha :D

Didn't know there is such way to multiply, thanks for sharing! :)

Yea, me too :D

I blush to confess, this looks like rocket science to me.
I'm going to ask my husband if he gets it.
Is there part of Common Core or that new way of teaching kids to do math? I applaud you for this - please don't get me wrong - but I'm more than half a century old, and this doesn't look time-saving to me. I learned to break up the component numbers by tens. So, 25 x 15 = (25 x10 = 250; add 25 x 5, 125; 375) - th

My husband, the electrical engineer who has a brain for math, looked at this and wondered why anyone would bother with the lattice vs the old standard methods. So.... is this just something new and different, a way to check our work, or is it some new way of teaching kids multiplication?
(Yes. He too is more than half a century old.)

Hello ma'am @carolkean thank u so much for reading my post :).
Yes, it is time consuming and I also prefer the simple methods. The truth is I also don't know who invented the lattice hehe I just find it a bit fun to do when u want to play with the numbers. :D
