Unexpected evening walk

in #naturelast month (edited)

Only a couple of days ago, I wrote an "end of summer" post. Then, yesterday afternoon, my wife asked if I wanted to join her on an evening, group, "moonlight hike." We'd done one a month ago, but apparently there is one each month. So, why not squeeze in a quick walk?

As with my prior three day hike and the earlier moonlight hike, this was on the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin. However, this was to be a different section which neither of us had been on before.

Below is actually the last photo I took - this was the goal: a moonlight hike.

There were about 20 people who did the hike. I was the only one interested in the camping area which was a 100 feet or so off the trail. After my earlier backpacking trip, I wanted to compare sites. This was a nice campsite, but what stood out to me was...a "trail angel" had left a full gallon of water for a thirsty hiker. I wrote in the logbook: "I could have used that water two weeks ago!"

An enjoyable moonlight walk.

After leaving the cleared meadow atop the hills, we reentered the forest. By the time we got back to the parking area, it was rather dark...had to be careful walking to avoid tripping over rocks or roots. Everyone else had gone...the parking area, which had been full, now only had our car. We'd walked the farthest and stayed the longest. We win.

Sounds like a really nice walk! Reviewing your posts, you might want to check out Actifit, both community and app - if you have a step tracker. You might find some like minded people there who enjoy walks a lot, like @silvertop or @manuvert.

If not, maybe the Worldmappin community is something for you. Lots of travel experiences including trails. They're a little strict about their rules, though.
