Wu was attempting the stunt on a sixty-two storey skyscraper in Changsha City, Hunan province in China whose family told reporters that he was attempting the stunt to win $15000 in prize money.

Warning: The video you’re about to see MAY BE very disturbing. I say maybe because I have no doubts that some people enjoy these videos until they realize that it has actually killed people!

In the first part of the video, his previous successful stunts were shown. The last one is when he died from a 45-foot fall onto a terrace below. This final stunt is just chilling and scary to watch for many.

According to the South China Morning post, Wu was planning to propose to his girlfriend the day after completing the challenge. The incident took place on November 8 but his girlfriend JinJin only made the announcement recently after fans were worried that he hadn’t updated his Weibo account for more than a month.

At the time of his death, Wu had uploaded over 300 videos on Weibo, which is a social networking site in China. Another Chinese rooftopper Charlie_7U you commented on Weibo that Wu went a bit over the top and he’s always trying things that are beyond his ability. He also added that he has even saved Wu once before and they stopped playing together.

Skyscraper stunts have taken off in recent years. There have been many young daredevils climbing extremely high structures and showing their bravery by hanging off the edge by only one hand. They engage in competition for bragging rights alone and sometimes for various amounts of money. It has been creating viral stars on YouTtube and Instagram.

More and more people risk their lives and will possibly die rooftopping as viewers expect bigger and more dangerous stunts each time.

In 2016, a teenager known only as Tolya in local media was showing off to his friends his stunt. He was dangling by his fingertips from the ninth floor of a Derelict Building, according to police in Saratov, south-western Russia. When he tried to pull himself back up, one of the bricks he was holding onto broke off and he fell to the concrete pavement below.

Another young daredevil fell to his death when he attempted a stunt on a steel pedestrian bridge in the Ukrainian capital city of Kiev. The man was seen making his way across the metal bars on top of the bridge, swinging by his arms. He probably got too tired to continue and fell about halfway through. His name has not been revealed, but his ill-fated attempt was caught on a smartphone camera by an eyewitness and was shared on social media.

You can find more and more videos like these on the internet as audiences are being numbed by danger. All of these eventually become ordinary for some people. Some brains are just β€˜wired for danger’. You can read some more information about this in this article from @j-alhomestudio.

Some of them try to hype things up with obscene and dangerous things, and their purpose is to attract more eyeballs and make a profit. It is time we ended this," the article published on Tuesday said.
Not everyone does extreme stunts on the very edge of buildings. Some rooftoppers just like to take photos from stunningly tall, often newly constructed buildings, which they often enter without permission, but others like 26-year-old Wu take things a step further. Source

I just hope that the enthusiasm for such dangerous activities will wax cold. There are many exciting extreme sports that can be done professionally and legally. I just think they're much more fulfilling because one would get minimal criticism. I guess many teenagers do these illegal things not only for fun, but for showing their rebellion. They might get attention that way. After they die from rooftopping, they'll probably get all the attention they were craving for. It's just sad to see thir lives 'wither' that way.

It's definitely not worth dying for. I risked my camera in taking these pictures. That's risky enough and I still took some safety precautions. It's surprising how these daredevils risk their smartphones (and their lives) that way. My phone is always hooked on my belt strap to prevent loss or damage from drops.

More so should their bodies!

A lot of the videos I see are people doing it in poor countries. The attraction of easy money when you are poor must be too much. I think when enough people fall the powers that be will stop monetizing the videos so the profit motive will be gone

You have a good point. I should say they also do it for money. Maybe at first, they just had fun but when they started to enjoy popularity and some money, it became addictive.

I read about this recently and I couldn't help but to wonder if we pass while engaging in something we are passionate about, does that help with the thought of us being at peace? It may sound weird, but let me preface it by asking, if one truly is at peace when they pass if they feel more fulfilled?
Nonetheless, this was a very untimely passing considering he was getting married very soon. Said a little prayer for his fiance when I read about this.
May he rest in peace.

What happened was very unfortunate. I also wonder how it felt for him to fail miserably while fighting for his life. I suddenly realized how bad it would feel like trying to climb back up and not being able to hold on. Wearing no safety harness is already too risky. Not having a friend hiding on the other side to extend help in case of emergencies (just in my opinion) is plain stupidity. Having a partner standing by won't degrade the quality of the stunt. Audiences don't need to know that. Even Bear Grylls (in his wilderness survival show) get help from his crew.
