When you use the paper with the rough tooth, if your colour has been made from more than one colour, the pigments can separate: One pigment will go into the 'valley' and another pigment will stay on the 'hill' ~ So you may get a mottled look.

So rough paper is great for textural effects ~ Great for landscapes and impressions. Harder for working with details. Which may be why you found this new paper difficult for this particular painting. Never-the-less Scrawly, it's a very beautiful painting and you have captured her inner calm and grace so well. ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎

Oohhh!! That really explains a great deal about why I'm having so much difficulty with this one, I even thought that I was devolving in my watercolour skills. I guess the other one that I've been using is a smooth paper, this is what they describe as hot or cold press, is it? It doesn't say it anywhere on the pad though so I'm only guessing.

Thank you so much for the explanation, Ally. That is really awesome and it helps me a lot understanding the difference of strength and weakness between the paper <3.

So nice potrait! When I work with watercolors I use a 300 gsm paper, but I'm familiar with it because I use this kind of paper since I started to exercise my hands in watercolors. This portrait is really well done, so I'm sure you'll become familiar with this paper very soon ^_^

Those watercolour paper is really expensive. I kind of feel bad whenever I use them, and even more so if I fail the picture. I guess I should buy bigger pad and cut them into smaller size? My friend told me of this tip but I haven't done it yet because those big size pad is over $50, the one I want to buy anyway. That's pretty steep, isn't it.

Thank you Silvia for the vouch of confidence :).

Great watercolor - feel the delicacy of the breeze. I am impressed by your productivity! Need to gather more mana to finish my unfinished drawings :P

Yes, endurance and stamina are important stats. You might need to invest some points there instead of putting it all on dexterity, magic, and strength. Hahaha I am proud now to have made such a geeky reply.

Thank you.

Cool! Arrows up!

Thank you.

I like how serene she looks like, you can feel the wind carrying her hair, as the petals come twirling around her in a gentle breeze :) The weight of the hair as it comes gathering itself at the back of her head is so nicely done, too :D

I like the red of her kimono, it gives a pop of colours in this composition :)

And the gradation from blue to yellow backwash is interesting. I can see the roughness of the paper, for sure... Maybe this type of paper, you will need to experiment with different brush heads? It might not agree with the brush head that you are using?

The glow from the bottom side of the picture gives this lady a feeling as if she's in a dreamscape :) Very nice, scrawls <3

This drawing is mostly for testing the new paper, and I'm glad you found the background to be interesting. It wasn't what I had in mind but I just had to go along with what's happening and I'm glad that the final result is not bad looking. Maybe that's why artists are so critical of our own arts, we have plans in our mind and whether we can pull it off or not, that's how we measure our works, while the viewers measure it based on the final result's presentation.

Anyway, thank you and I'm glad that you like it :).
