How Nature Helps People Get Better Sleep

Most people who live in cities are more likely to have sleep difficulties than those who live in rural areas, including an increased risk for insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and sleep apnea. This may be related to differences in exposure to light at night and the social jet lag experienced by those who work rotating or evening shifts. Many studies show the quality of sleep of people who live in rural versus urban areas.

This may be related to health outcomes. A study of sleep quality in rural residents (from 9 different states) compared with urban residents (from the same 9 states) found that rural people reported less sleep disturbance, but there was no difference in sleep efficiency or total hours slept. The result was most likely due to people living more time away from artificial light at night.

I agree with you! I always love to spend time to the countryside to my parents' place because I can sleep so early and wakes up so feelin' fresh compared to being in the city but work is in the city, and yes, having outdoor activities and being in nature helps a lot.
