I didn't have time to watch the video (sorry!) but I still wanted to comment on what you said about continuing to be a witness.

Personally I don't know if it makes sense for you to continue being a witness on Hive, but from the Hive blockchain perspective I think it's very valuable to have you as a witness, even if you're not in the top 20, and that it would be a big loss to the platform if you were to stop.

You're obviously extremely knowledgeable not just about Hive, but also about a number of other blockchains and platforms, and the more people like yourself that are witnesses on Hive makes the chain stronger.

Thanks for chiming in, Matt. The value I add to Hive can be added even if I'm not a witness, I think, but I do appreciate what you mean in terms of being a witness definitely creates more "skin in the game" and keeps me more connected than I might otherwise be. Maintaining a server just isn't in the list of things I'm passionate about right now, but for the most part it's not a big deal, but with a hard fork coming up and such, I just got to thinking if it makes sense for me to put any time into that part of things. I'll always be passionate about Hive as this is my home on the blockchain. I also know there are others who do great work for Hive but aren't rewarded as witnesses as much, so that's part of my thinking as well. I'll keep thinking about it. Thanks again for your input.

It's not just about having more "skin in the game", although running a witness does do that also. When everything is going fine, like it is now, then it doesn't seem very important to have a lot of good witnesses, but when the chain is attacked, like we saw first hand very recently, I think having as many good, smart people running witnesses is extremely important.

If we don't have many good people running backups outside of the top 20 then the chain isn't really very secure, IMO.

Things like this are getting really more rampant lately. Saw another ripp-off of blockchain.com.
I think though that 2-step verification will help avoid loss of funds in cases like this.

Yeah, Google Auth for 2FA or something similar is key.

At one point I touch on whether or not it makes sense for me to continue being a witness on Hive. Curious of your thoughts there.

Are you bringing more value to the network than at least 1 of the top 20 witnesses? If so keep it up! I'd say you are simply because you're a trustworthy crypto idealist and aren't going to skim as much profit off the top as possible. Not everyone can say the same.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm not sure that I am as I think there may be other witnesses not in the top 20 adding more value than I am, as I've been very busy with other things like FIO lately. That said, I do think Hive and all projects can use more idealists trying to make the world a better place. :)

People are still falling for e-mail phishing and robo-call phone scams. The crypto community definitely needs to educate people in our sphere, too.
