Yep. They don't magically disappear and that's odd that they also stopped searching so quickly. It seems like someone knows something and aren't speaking. Additionally some reddit users claim her account made a new posting two years after her supposed disappearance, but that could mean anything.
Her friends don't seem that sad to be honest. Some friends indeed. I'm still amazed that she "vanished", but then her group waited so long to call the authorities. Two days of official searches also seems very brief in my opinion.
Though, the Missing 411 series of books does bring up events where someone was literally walking with a group leader, for example, lose eye contact for a couple of minutes with their employee in the woods and POOF, the employee is gone. The stories of missing people get even weirder sometimes.

Oh my god. You too? My wife was the reason I started reading about true crime and stories like these. Now, I can't stop. The fact that they're true is the most perplexing. And they get weirder as I continue looking down this path. You can't make up the crazy things people do or the events that happen outside of someone's control.

My interpretation of the event is that her friends didn't give two sh*ts about her leaving until nightfall.
Most likely but what if it was actually a spiritual quest? Allowing her some time to herself makes sense but until nightfall? Now, that's scary. There are a lot of holes in this story but no one can know much except Maureen's friends! To get the full truth, one would have to look in their heads. 😄
It's sad. This was a girl with a bright future ahead of her. So many stories of missing people in every part of the world and these things happen everyday.
It’s definitely a sad tale. I’m also surprised about the number of people that do these quests even naked. Though from what I researched others won’t wait until the evening to venture forth in the wild.

Why do I have the weird feeling that her friends knew everything that was going to happen?
Could someone had been jealous of her dreams of becoming a blossoming singer-songwriter?
