The crumbs from the capitalist table.

Of our generation there is just one label,
We accepted the crumbs from the capitalist table,
We buckled down and traded our soul,
Accepting our lot with a threat of the dole.

While the capitalist fed and lived well each day,
They killed our jobs and cut our pay,
We buried our heads as we began to pray,
Never once did that give us a better way.

We ignored our vote so they elected their tools,
But tell me now just who were the fools,
Now we are weak and our energy has gone,
Our children have grown and they know this is wrong.

Our children are loud as they question their place,
We belittle their efforts as the new rats in the race,
Aspire to be better and belittle the weak,
Just attack each other as life is too bleak.

The kids of today just don’t understand,
You can’t change the system by taking a stand,
The lies of the system have hidden the fact,
The people would win if they would just act.

(To any poets or poetry lovers, sorry I'm no poet.)

For someone who "isn't a poet", this is really good - and unfortunately very true, not only in the UK but in other countries as well. Well done! :)

Thank you, I think I'll stick to daft stories though as this was too much like thinking.

I am no poet either but i enjoyed reading it and appreciate the thoughts that went into it!

thank you.

I don't know where you get the idea that you are not a poet. This is beautifully written. What you express is not only in the UK. I believe this illness is spreading the world over.

It's the first time I've tried as i just don't get poetry and never really read it. It just seemed to be the way this idea came to me.

Now that you know you can do it, you have to do more :)

Too much thinking needed so I don't think I'd be a regular poster of poetry.

I wonder if the time for civil action through the ballot in the west has passed. It doesn't seem to serve much purpose here in the US. Too many entrenched members stay in to make a real difference.

With the youth becoming more active things are possible to make change happen.

From my perspective, true capitalism has to take into account that they need the sources of their revenue. What we're experiencing of late is not that, but some bastardized version where the state protects the strong, against the weak. After all, we rose on the backs of capitalists. That's where the work and the business came from, but this latest iteration feels like the profit taking of a band of oligarchs who know their days are numbered. Things like steemit need to be promoted. I was listening to Ned talk about Smart Media Tokens yesterday and it's fascinating stuff. A new day is coming. Hopefully, with more power to individuals, through VOLUNTARY association. We shall see.

Sorry to add this here, darn steemit, no messaging. but, I've got a writing challenge that might be right up your alley here's a link. https://steemit.com/writing/@markrmorrisjr/4scirg-you-need-to-stop-what-you-re-doing-and-read-this-right-now-i-m-going-to-make-you-famous-on-steemit-yes-you
