For Luke, on our 12th anniversary
You’d never have believed you’d be eating onions
as part of almost every meal.
If your 19 year-old self saw you drinking coffee
he would totally ask, what’s the deal?
If I’d told you that curries would be your top choice
you’d have told me my brain was misplaced.
And if I’d said, you’ll be vegan one day,
you’d surely have laughed in my face.
But what could I see, twelve years in the future,
and why would it matter at all?
When the one thing I knew is that we’d be together
holding hands through each rise and each fall.
Through triumphs like defending your thesis,
while so poor we shared one pair of shoes.
For better or worse, it's a beautiful curse
to know I'll be right here with you.

Not one for romantic or soppy stuff, but this is how it should be done. The kind of romantic only seen with long-term relationships and many years of struggling together. Congrats and happy 12 years of getting into each other's hairs! May there be many, many more.

I've been myself in a long term relationship and it is funny to see how we have shifted and changed together...
If I told him he would use a flashlight not to tread on rolypolies and slugs on the garden XD at night, or rescue bees... or like ginger LOL hahah
People change us and we change them... and still we remain the same :)

We often joke that we don't even have to finish each other's sentence... though for me enduring love is the most romantic...

Sorry, as much as I love unintended poetry, I consider you a spammer. First of all, a decent poet would never end the lines on of and be. You need recoding.
The line about the onions really resonated with me.
I remember someone cooking a spaghetti dish, and I asked innocently, "what's in the sauce?" and it was simply one ginormous enormous bowl of onions.
I could not believe it. This predatory vegetable, which savagely attacks the eyes of anyone who comes near it, was sneaking it's way into my meal.
The line "For better or worse, it's a beautiful curse" is like a poem within a poem. It's so strong, it stands on it's own. :)
