Shit Zeke Sees - Beautiful, Strange & Weird

szs.jpg

I live in a quaint little Canadian town. Having moved here a decade ago from the big city, and having a blog approaching 5 year in age, I often forget people may not remember my intro post! Anyhow, I love to share stories, adventures and perspectives with the world and found some of the things I feel are mundane, are rather entertaining from the perspective of someone across the world.

Sometimes, there are flashes of beauty, strange things happen, or stuff gets weird and I just have to share.

Beautiful

This is the sidewalk patio of one of my favourite restaurants in town and would fall into the beautiful category. Raja Fine Indian Cuisine https://rajastratford.com has always made sure to invest in a talented gardener each spring so that the ambiance is as colourful and vibrant as the cuisine. I should be a copy writer for them huh?

When Covid hit and indoor dining was cancelled, the city FINALLY let up and permitted these restaurants to extend patios out to the sidewalk. Wooden boardwalks were constructed so that the sidewalk traffic could detour around these patios where the parking spots are. Raja took the opportunity to scale up their gardening and blanketed the outdoor dining area with blooms. It did cost a pretty penny and the baskets need to be soaked every couple days but it sure is nice to be there.

As an added bonus, any people who follow award winning Canadian songwriters (crickets) will be able to find Ron Sexsmith https://ronsexsmith.com/ wearing his hat. You are welcome!

Strange

While I was playing games with friends, I heard a huge smash out the basement window and went to check it out. I joined 3 other nosey neighbours in checking out the scene. Nobody apparently hurt and a bit of distracted driving was likely the cause. You can't see the light pole in this picture but it is smashed off its bottom and leaning on a small maple across the street.

The strange thing about this is not how close it was to home, but the fact someone had hit a pole in front of me while driving not a month ago. People gotta stop hitting poles in my vicinity!

Weird

Around here, people park on their lawns. Not always diagonally, not everyone, but how many?

IMG_4864.jpg

Here is another one on the same block. The classic pretend your driveway is wider move. Eventually it will be.

IMG_4865.jpg

Not to be outdone by the other 2 on that same street, this SUV goes full sideways among the hydrangeas.

IMG_4866.jpg

We are seriously on the same drive a couple kilometers to downtown. This just looks like a couple near misses and a lecture about drunk driving from the missus.

IMG_4868.jpg

There is a possibility this is an abstract art exhibit and not bad parking but I am gonna go with bad parking.

Only a few blocks over, it goes from parking to storage by the looks of the lawn.

Am I the only one who wouldn't even consider parking on the front lawn?

There’s all kinds of stories online about local jurisdictions banning parking on lawns. But then there’s this:

Frankly, I hate seeing a collision with columns. There are always people curious to see what happened.

Yah rubberneckers are everywhere.

Fortunately this was on our quiet street at night time and nobody was hurt.

I love restaurants on the sidewalk. It increases your desire to eat, especially near beautiful colored roses. I prefer to live in beautiful natural areas rather than cities.

Absolutely.

In the big city I moved from, I saw pictures of restaurants doing the same but the dining was IN the parking spots. A picnic table on concrete with cars buzzing by cant compare to how our town has changed things. All it took was a pandemic for them to be cooperative!

I could go for some authentic butter chicken and naan right now. Maybe I'll throw on some Ron Sexsmith instead. As for the lawn parking, that is weird. I remember waking up in St. Mary's once and my truck was parked on the lawn. I thought it was strange but then found out my buddy had walked down to the bar and brought it back but the driveway was full. Seemed like a good excuse at the time but now I wonder if it isn't something in the water down there.

Haha!

I was in St Marys today golfing! A truck in the front yard with no run over bushes would be a relief in that case I bet!

Yeah, what’s up with people parking on their lawns?? My neighbour does it once in a blue. I’m sure it devalues the property on our block at that moment.

We lived in the country on a large lot. With at times 5 drivers/vehicles and a company vehicle trying to get parked and sorted so people could get out when needed. The lawn sometimes ended up being the overflow lanes although specific parts of it that didn't grow very well at the best of times.

Same thing is going on in New Jersey, all these pop-up outdoor seating's outside the restaurants, I love it. That's where my 3 sons live. In Pennsylvania my daughter is enjoying the same pleasure but here in Upstate New York, not so much. Everyone here thinks the pandemic is over, even though it's not but there is such a small population here it's easy to avoid crowds, we don't have crowds here until next month when all the music festivals hit town.
Parking on the front lawn is par for the course here, especially when my family comes up in August, we always spend the week together then go to the Bluesfest here in Norwich Ny.

I would never park on my front lawn.
