Extinct???

in #questions4 years ago

Hi Friends,

We have all seen the writing on the wall - DVDs and CDs are becoming extinct. They will go the way of the floppy disk, hard disk, VHS tape, etc and become obsolete.

Technology is moving fast, so this is not unexpected - but my question is, are DVDs and CDs essentially extinct now or do they have a few more years?

Asking for a friendly debate between a husband and spouse...

Thanks for coming by,

I think yes

I think they are still used for some reasons. For example, when I had CT scan in the last weekend, they gave me it in a CD. Few months ago, I prepared a track CD for my friend to play in his car.

I don’t think they will ever go entirely extinct. Some people will always want a product they can hold. Look at vinyl records. They are having a huge comeback and in-fact more bands would be releasing vinyl except for the fact production facilities are limited (and Adele just bought out the record making capacity for the USA for the year with her latest release.)

Good points! Crazy to see vinyls coming back!

You are right, With new technology the old technology disappears but the old technology still remains.

Most laptops dont come with a reader anymore. When I built my PC I never even considered it. I think the SD card/memory stick was the last nail in the coffin. I just ordered a new Ram and it is being built. I cant say it even has one as I never even thought about it lol.
In a word: dead.
