Following up on my previous post about all the work I usually have ahead of me, I thought I'd also mention some of the fun activities I like to do on Hive that don't feel like work.
Curating and commenting on posts in my feed, usually from people I interact with often.
Finding new authors to follow, some that may have been around for longer but we somehow haven't crossed paths yet (still happens often and snaps is a great place to find such users).
Discussing parts of curation, abuse-fighting, general stuff that goes on on hive on chats (potentially maybe even on a decentralized discord alternative soon which I hear @theycallmedan is working on). Some times these things can be quite fun, especially if some abuse attempts are so desperate and sad you can't really do anything but laugh at them.
Like, it's kind of crazy all the things that go on here, human mining basically. Whereas Bitcoin you just have computers doing literal brute force guessing to maybe get a reward sometime or share that reward in a pool with other machines belonging to other people. On ethereum it's mostly proof of stake now but there's still things to do but it is all based on spending your eth or other coins to be able to do them. Solana seems to be Tron 2.0 where in the past we used to joke about Tron being a dead fake chain with just bots and dumbasses on socials promoting it while there's mainly just gambling on there - which is a breath of fresh air that there's so little of it here.
I'm just, relieved in many ways. Although I don't think the price reflects well on hive most of the time, the sheer losing yourself in doing things that the chain enables is quite something. Maybe all of this won't have any meaning in the end, maybe it'll feel like when a user you've invested a lot of inflation towards suddenly goes crazy and starts farming/abusing the chain and leaves blaming everyone else. But I can't help but feel that our actions here have counter-actions almost on a daily basis, even if we've been here for a long time now where getting votes doesn't really feel like much anymore or having certain effort be validated and potentially rewarded in other ways.
What would you be doing on other chains right now? Look at the price of a coin and pray/hope it changes its course soon so you can sell the coin you bought to someone for a higher price? What does that do? Like really, think of the value generation and effects that has to humanity as a whole? You profited, grats, now go spend that fiat on something.
You started a token and rugged some gamblers for some profit? Grats, hope that makes you feel better!
You're working on a side-project where you're trying to use your service as a middleman to take a fee for allowing people to use your token as a payment service? Yawn, that's so old by now and most people don't seem interested while most chains will falter at allowing that to happen flawlessly given enough volume.
You're buying and selling coins based on your customers' wishes? That's so tradfi oldschool as well, one mistake and you're going to lose so many people's funds. Let them take care of their own keys.
You're grinding your web2 socials to have a larger voice for your favorite tokens or to earn by shilling them to your followers? Meh.
Seeing your portfolio drop in value and you can't do anything about it? You can't keep yourself busy with work or continue building out your ideas and plans.
Dunno about you, but I welcome all the usecases that Hive offers. I realize we're still quite early and the focus and longterm vision isn't there for many yet with many probably just being new to earning online to begin with. If I wasn't on Hive, I probably wouldn't be looking at crypto markets often. I would probably just be stuck at some regular job grinding it out like I imagine 99% of people are. So no matter the price, I know this chain is not going to go anywhere and I'm relieved and grateful for the things it enables me to do and build on here and hopefully those things will make life better and easier for future users to come and I can count all the effort I've put on here worth it at the end.

I have never been the type of guy made for trading, mostly because luck just is not my suit. Sometimes I joke that when God made me, He forgot to add 'luck element' in my system. I have tried betting, I have tried trading (without any real how-lnow if I am being honest and yes I am guilty 😶🌫) and none of it ever worked out for me. Blaming the God is just human instinct.
Hive, on the other hand, I joined completely out of nowhere. Before this, I used to write on Medium (for free). Because, all I wanted to do was to go professional with English language (as it is my third language and official language), thanks to the great 'Shakespeare'. My only intention was to connect with people outside my own little territorial bubble. I did not even know there was an earning system on Hive. But over time, I realized what you are saying is true, Hive is not like those chains where everything revolves around quick profit, hype or the next meaningless (or meaningful for few) pump. Here, you actually feel the presence of real people, real conversations, real content, real engagements. You feel like a part of something that grows in a communal manner.
Although, I am not of great help here, as I am still a newbie, still learning, still growing. But, I contribute as much as I can with all my other everyday activities.
Enough of yapping, I guess. Peace 🕊
The nice thing about Hive is that you can make your own luck here in many ways, and compared to betting or trading, you don't really have a "house edge" against you here. I used to gamble a bit back in the day (small time bets, slots in grocery stores in Finland mostly), but even that felt like it was just a money sink and other than some dopamine over time it was just a waste. I never really understood how people can keep gambling this much with coins that already are a gamble in and of themselves depending on your comittment and research you've done into them. Hive kind of helped me get over that gambling period cause I thought, alright, I'm gonna gamble one last time and invest my time and effort into making something of myself here, whether that works out - time will tell, but so far it's felt a lot fairer than anything else I may have come across. The staking mechanism also helps a lot, I can't count how often I would've thought "oh bitcoin dropped so much, if only I could sell x hive now to try and buy the dip to sell for a profit" to then notice bitcoin just kept dipping once more, then once more, and once more, etc, it's saved me from a lot of losses in many ways.
Slow and steady is much kinder to your mind, and being social and active here can improve your edge even more, such as this comment which now got me interested in checking out your profile and may make me as a curator wanna throw you a follow - you're making your own luck here!
Gambling really is the worst curse, it drains one's time, money and peace of mind. Just an infinite wave of dopamine. That is why I appreciate Hive; at least here one's effort actually builds something instead of disappearing on a toss of luck.
And thank you so much for the guidance, support — and motivation, means a lot to me. Have a good day!
If it wasn't for hive I wouldn't even be interested in crypto, actually I don't hold any other crypto besides hive... If I had to be on an other chain it would only make sense to do trading, buy low sell high, nothing else really but if I have to do trading I wouldn't on crypto anyways
I don't even know if other chains have a social side, probably not
They don't, at least not where u can earn their main token by being social
Well, Hive is basically human mining, and every action we take can influence it, whether we’re commenting, creating, or curating. It can be fun, rewarding, or even very upsetting or frustrating, lol. but that’s what makes our system alive. You can really do things here, but you can also lose yourself in the process, so we just need to be aware of that. Still, that’s worth more than doing something you have no influence over, so what we do reflects the result we get.
From my perspective, I think those people you're talking about are in Hive looking out for their own interests. If they realized the enormous potential we have here, or felt the necessary passion for what Hive truly stands for, and joined those who want to see it grow and thrive, they'd have a better chance in the long run. But I think the problem is short-sightedness and greed in the moment. I'm betting on the door where Hive is because I know it's the right one. The other two doors are short-term distractions. And that's how I would solve The Monty Hall Problem: Hive, only Hive
No, can't imagine. Maybe in that weird real life thing that people talk about, with that "FIAT" coin. I was told it has a big following and is somewhat stable 🤪
I'm here for the content and community. The crypto is fun and all, but just numbers to me, to play around with, project growth and do some plots.
HIVE is just entirely underrated and overlooked. It's so sad.
Agreed. One of the reasons why I say Hive is different from other Cryptos is that it has a universal use case with utility outside of the crypto world. Regardless of the price, there will always be a good use for Hive.
Personal experience with Hive comparing to other social platforms, Hive actually makes spending time online less stressful. Posting, commenting and curating for me is better than staring at coin charts all day. It’s nice to see effort turn into something, even if the values went down which I know is only a season thing
Hive actually does contribute to meaningful learning experience. Mina Protocol is an interesting new project that could grow hive in some new interesting ways😊
I believe there are more good people than bad, and more people who do things right. I'm betting on Hive becoming one of the largest and most established blockchains. I don't see myself in a normal job getting fat; I see myself at Hive in the future contributing great things.
Other than Hive, I don't hold any other crypto except for some airdrop coins which later turned to dust.. 😂 Well I'm done with wasting my time farming shitty coins.
I'm much more comfortable earning Hive and other L2 tokens from my activities here than dabbling into BTC, ETH and the rest which I don't even have the resources for. Moreover, I'm not built to take the hit from the constant market volatility. 😂
You remember when you tap tap tap hahahahah hahahahah hahahahah hahahahah, it wasn't funny, we really wasted lots of time
That was biggest mistake I made, and my phone suffered from it. 😅
!BBH
Haha hahaha hahaha , The millions were counting 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Without Hive? I would not have any friends. Also I originally found this place while looking for a way to showcase my art. So it is unlikely that any other crypto would have interested me. So I imagine that I still would have no idea about saving or investing. I would probably just keep all my money in a bank without doing anything productive with it...
Your writing is truly amazing. I love the way you view the hive. It's not just a workplace, but a truly vibrant space of activity. Awesome👍
This is what happens when I imagine that
I try to forget that one even exists lol
don't worry, boogers are SAFU !

I also wonder if there are chains out there similar to Hive when it comes to social engagement.
Team hive! :) NO.. hive fam! I am with u 100%.. so thankful for this thing..

It feels like we are part of something bigger than just trading coins for profit.
One question I have is why nobody in mainstream crypto ever talks about Hive? It is almost like we are black listed...
