First correct (in my opinion) response gets an up vote.

Please explain your answer, the value is in the explanation not the exact number.

one £ of Gold is only 0.00104 ounces, while 1 £ of feathers can get you a lot of feathers, thus one pound of feathers will weigh more?

Congrats, you got it! About 1000x more :)

Weheeey!!

Sorry, I couldn't whale vote you more, trying to be respectful of the reward pool.

hehe, thats ok!

This was fantastic so have a vote from me as well.

Dan you hero you. Hahaha :)

hahaha! Yes, speech is silver; silence is golden! But speech on Steemit gives more ££ returns!
I found an interesting etymology post here: https://mathpolymath.wordpress.com/2013/12/31/gold-and-feathers/

Ah I learned something.

1 Pound is worth about $1.28 which will buy you about 1.23 oz of the pictured down feathers. That same $1.28 will buy you .001 oz of Gold.

The correct (expected) answer is that a pound of feathers weighs about 1000x more than a pound of gold.

And this is why we need smart contracts, because if I offered to sell you a pound of gold for $100 it could result in a dispute if we didn't agree on the precise meaning of every word. Furthermore, it would cost you more to take me to court to dispute the meaning / intent than to just take your losses.

Which is why that is properly called a pound's worth of feathers as opposed to a pound of feathers. Can't have you abusing the English language just to make a point 8-P.

Tell that to lawyers and congress :)

I thought you meant weight by pound :p

21% heavier than a pound of gold.

A pound of feathers weighs more than a pound of gold. Let me explain why. Feathers are weighed in avoirdupois ounces, the kind that most of us are familiar with. The common ounce weighs 28.35 grams and 16 ounces makes an avoirdupois pound. A calculator tells us that this comes out to 453.6 grams.

However, gold and other precious metals (and anything that is shot into the air, such as bullets and arrowheads) are weighed in the troy system. Troy ounces contain 31.1 grams and 12 troy ounces make a troy pound. Bringing out the calculator again we see that a troy pound weighs 373.2 grams.

Who would have thought there would be 2 secret answers in this riddle. :D

A pound of gold weighs less because who wants to carry around all those feathers.

Lol, great response but not a number :)

If @elyaque is correct.....London......then perhaps the fact that the London gold valults are minus 150,000 tonnes of gold is a factor.

The gold of the West has moved to the East according to Zerohedge.com

London.... maybe you talk about english pounds?

Why the Cafe at the National Gallery specifically? :)

The feathers are heavier!
A pound of Gold is just a pound of Gold, but if you try to carry a pound of feathers, you also have to carry the weight of what you did to those poor birds!

Gold is measured differently! A pound of gold is 373 grams and a pound of feathers is 453 grams, like ordinary pound

Difference is 80 grams

Can you cite those numbers?

Exact numbers in grams: ordinary pound(in this case a pound of feathers) = 453.59 grams
a pound of gold(which is not measured ordinary way 373.24
In Troy system an pound weights 12 ounces

The Troy system was used in history to measure precious metals, drugs and gemstones, and the ordinary pound is 21% larger than a pound of gold

Not the answer I was looking for, but I'll give you an up vote for coming up with a different angle on it.

Thank you!

they weigh exactly the same - one pound.

Yes, of course.

Zero difference.

Thank you for posting @dantheman.

Edit. If @ausbitbank is wrong....then are we are speaking of value?.....no, because you specifically wrote...how much more does a pound of feathers weigh than a pound of gold......bleujay is stumped......obviously missing something that probably clear to a few....but a conundrum to the many.......How about an English pound's worth of gold?.......still thinking on it.

Great puzzle/riddle. Cheers.

The bag of feathers weighs aprx 21.5% more.

Gold is measured in troy ounces.
Feathers are measured Avoirdupois pounds.

I know what they are, and the difference, but cannot rely on my maths early in the morning.

It depends from how strong the wind is.

Assume a vacuum ;)

Assume a vacuum ;)

I assume it would not matter anymore since we would use the feathers to fly to paradise

For the sake of this argument there is no difference between African and European feathers.

Congratulations @dantheman!

Is it a quiz or you truly trying to get pure info? ☺

I have the answer, just thought it would be an educational lesson.

2.8343 ounces.

0 ?

obviously wrong ;)

A pound is a pound. They "weigh" the same.

Wrong :)

I look forward to hearing your take on why?

Tons of steem more

A shitload more, literally, lol

It depends a bit on where you live; we use standardised pounds of 500 grams, but Your Weight May Vary in the colonies.

453.6 grams for 16 ounces of feathers, 373.2 grams for 12 troy ounces of gold, I think, but I was raised metrically 8-).

That would mean 80.4 grams between them.

I suppose you could mean a golden Pound called a Sovereign, which is 7.98 grams, or even a Pound's worth of gold, which is rather variable. The weight for the same mass would also vary depending on where you are on Earth.

Too many options, brain fried, core dumped.

You just want to see how many upvotes you will get. Right? :)

About one pound in weight minus one £ in gold.

I think a pound of gold would way more assuming you are talking about 1 British pound of gold and moderately priced feathers l. Although some feathers, like pigeons are almost free so one British pound of pigeon feathers would be infinitely heavy.

~ 75 grams

Pound of feathers: 453 grams
Pound of gold: 373 grams

Avoirdupois weight and Troy weight difference.

The weigh of air between the feathers?

Gold value $1,241.00
Feathers value $1598.00

Weighs $360 more approximately. If a pound of feathers is bitcoin

So close, but also not right... :)

Going PURELY of what you write here the correct answer is that there is zero difference. But seeing as you replyed to someone that there is a diffference then thats ur fault on how you present this. as you are obviesly missleading the readers by intention . That is in not stating the correct information.

So in conclution one of them is not 1 pound. And thats the gold. This is the illution of ecomonics in action tbh.

Because the "location" is water, the gold. The gold will sink and the feathers will float?

If we assume that they can't occupy the exact same space, then it must depend on the position of the planets and the sun?

Nothing more its equal

a pound is a pound

The feathers because in a vacuum some of the air in the quills will not be excluded.

If you are talking about something like the weight of a british pound currency against a pound of feathers of course the feathers will weigh more, but the real answer if it's not a trick question is that a pound of gold is measured in a different way than a pound of feathers, the feathers should weigh more, now if we take into account the weight of the air a pound of feathers would have maybe we would come up with something different. So I think this question can only be answerede if you weigh them in an ideal environment i.e. no air, if it's a trick question, the first answer was right.

They weigh exactly the same, a pound is a pound!
