Mid-July... Time to show off your gardens people! Show us what you are growing, harvesting and which bugs or pests you are fighting.

Mid-Summer Or Mid-Winter

July... if you’re living in the northern hemisphere, this means it’s getting close to mid-summer. In the Southern hemisphere, mid-winter is coming.

Either way, I hope that won’t stop you from enjoying your garden.

This SteemIt Community Challenge allows you to share your monthly garden updates with your fellow Steemians.

This is already the third edition.

If you want to check out the previous editions, you can use the links below to visit them:

Late

Again, I need to apologize for posting this challenge later that I had planned, but there are so many things going on in my life at the moment that posting it sooner was not an option.

During the past week, I’ve seen some garden updates from people who joined the previous editions. I truly hope I’ve made it in time to give them a little extra exposure and a chance to still join the challenge.

divider.jpg

Last Time’s Contributors.

The second edition had quite a lot of entries. There were many fellow Steemians who allowed us to take a peek into their garden.

For that, I’d like to thank @thelaundrylady, @dedicatedguy, @lynncoyle1 and her rubber tree, @prostosun, @riverflows, @jamrubio, @walkerland, @mamajeanie, @amberyooper, @wizardave, @erikah, @iexplore, @abitcoinskeptic, @happyhairdays and @pretty.dorky

If you haven’t joined before, feel free to start now. It’s never too late to show off the beauties you have in your garden/on your farm or balcony.

The Challenge

The rules of the challenge haven’t changed:

rules.jpg

You can include whatever you want in your post, but please remember that the pictures should be the most important aspect of your post.

filmstrip-2208127_1280.jpg

Show us how your plants, herbs, flowers or vegetables are doing. Share what you’ve been doing in your garden. Let us know if you are dealing with things like fungus, caterpillars, aphids, and - even more important - hów you’re dealing with those.
In short, tell us the story of your garden.

🏆 The Upvotes

Last time, I promised to give every valid entry a decent upvote using a bot. That didn’t work out like planned, so I had to hand out the rewards manually.

For this edition, I have a couple of ideas, but I’m not going to reveal them yet. I don’t want to make a fool of myself two times in a row.

But I can assure you I will reward both your original garden post, and the comment with the link to your post you will leave in the comments section of this post.

As you probably know, I’m just a minnow, so I can’t promise you any huge upvotes, but I’ll do the best I can. You have my word.

The Winners

Next to the upvotes on your posts and comments, I will also distribute two types of rewards.

I’ll reward the top 2 posts with a 3SBD prize.

I’ll also give away a @steembasicincome share to 2 randomly chosen resteemers.

A membership of @steembasicincome will basically give you 1 share in the initiative, which will give you a small upvote on all your posts. The more shares you get, the more this upvote will be worth. You can read more about the @Steembasicincome initiative here.

Prizes will be distributed once this post has reached payout.

Grab That Camera

If you haven’t already, grab that camera and shoot some amazing pics from your garden. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one that is curious about how it has changed during this last month.

I hope you will see the benefits of this ‘challenge’, and help me build a community of garden lovers, which will grow together and help each other out when needed.

haha, your timing is always perfect! I just did my food forest update in July four days ago.

Here is a link to my update: https://steemit.com/ghsc/@thelaundrylady/food-forest-update-july-garden-journal-showcasing-photos-from-my-food-forest

It was because I saw your update that I realized I had to act quickly, lol.
I’ll go over it tomorrow morning. First need to get some rest.
Thanks for your continued support!

Lol ! Rest is the most important thing you can do for yourself in order to heal.

Thank you for being so awesome on Steemit. Can't wait to see everyone's update.

Congratulations on the Curie vote. It is well deserved; that was an awesome post!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I appreciate your comment more than you know.

Here's my post

Not too late, @goldenoakfarm.
Thanks for posting another amazing update. :0)

Hello @simplymike. Maybe a little late with my update publication, but it's never too late. Regards

  • One of the funnest contests around. It's quite fun looking at other people's gardens...

Thanks for your update, @wizardave.

It's quite fun looking at other people's gardens...

I agree. It's one of the main reasons I started this challenge. Watching a garden (whether it is my own or other people's) always brings a smile to my face :0)

Surprise! I managed to actually get this done :) Here's my post. Thanks for forcing me to sweep my balcony off...I couldn't take photos before I did haha

Glad I could put you to work ;0P
That balcony of yours is looking so cosy... it looks like an awesome place to relax.

I really appreciate that you took the time to create a post. Now this edition won't be a complete failure in the end. At least there are three entries now :0)

It was my pleasure @simplymike! There's only few people here that I'd do it for 😎

Ah geez, just 3. I've noticed our pifc entries have dropped from almost 30 to just 10 or so lately. Blame it on the weather!

I just noticed some more came in.
But you might be right. After all, for many Steemians it is mid-summer. Who can blame them if they'd rather spend time outside instead of sweating behind their computer :0)

haha @simplymike, you should see how hot it is here at the moment. We are averaging temperatures in the mid-40's; talk about sweating behind the computers. Eww! 😅

Lol, and I thought I was suffering with temperatures in the mid 30s... 😂
I don't know what I would do if they would be any higher.
Must be rough for you guys too. I mean, I assume it is different when you are used to it - when you were born is a country where it is that hot all the time. But if I'm not mistaking you're from the US or Canada, right?

From Vancouver, Canada, so I'm not used to this kind of heat. Although I grew up in mid-Canada, and it's gets very hot there. Regardless, I'll never be like the locals in this weather with their skinny jeans and tight shirts on lol

I hope I'm not to late for this - The title of my post for this challenge is Micro-Climates - Growing Veggies in What Ever Space You Can Find - Welcome to My July Garden found at: https://steemit.com/gardening/@porters/micro-climates-growing-veggies-in-what-ever-space-you-can-find-welcome-to-my-july-garden

Thanks for joining, @porters.
You are a little late, but since I haven't written the winners post yet, you're in.
Awesome veggie patches you have there!

What a fantastic post you've put up, @buckaroo. Loved it from the beginning till the end!!

Hey there you got my upvote for an amazing post.

Hello @simplymike, thank you for running another great contest. I've pulled out a lot of food from my garden. The tomato plants now tower over me and I'm pulling out 50 to 100 a day and giving them to all my neighbors. I've also got the dehydrator working constantly to dry some and I've got a fridge full of frozen ones. I think I will need to get jars to put in sauce. Then there are the peppers, I think I will just leave the majority on plant for now, then dry those.
Just want to add that I have resteemed in hopes of this fine project getting more support. I also tagged you for 1 SBI. You are a great help to the community. And I'll try to write about the garden this weekend.

Thanks, @abitcoinskeptic.
Do you mean you're pulling 50-100 tomatoes a day? Wow! And I thought I would have a tomato overload, lol.
I'm looking forward to seeing your post.

Here is my post. I hope it was submitted in time: https://steemit.com/gardenjournal2018/@abitcoinskeptic/july-garden-update

Thanks, @abitcoinskeptic.
Don't worry, you were not too late :0)

😄 I was JUST thinking about this yesterday as I fed my flowers!
wow, these are so beautiful... I should share their progress because so much has changed, wonder if @simplymike has a follow up garden contest?

Oh look... SHE DOES!!
I will share ASAP! 🌸😻👙

So I do have some telepathy talents 👀💡

you received an up vote from danlupi with voting power of 100.00%. Estimated dollar amount of $4.08

Great! i will participate!

Cool! Can’t wait :0)

I interest to this contest. Good contest.

I think I will have to enter this time. The last few times I had read SO many others' posts and thought... "Yeah, let's do this! So I AM! When I go outside today for my routine garden walk, I will be snapping some pictures!

Finally!!! I was wondering when you would finally give in and join, lol. It would be an honour.

Yes @goldendawne! I hope to see your garden update. It would be awesome if you join in :-)

Things are looking up a bit on my balcony; I must be doing a better job, now that my plants aren't committing suicide haha Stay tuned :)

So fun! I am gonna get in on this ❤ was just thinking it's time for a garden update!

Great @yogajill. Can't wait to see your update :0)

This will be fun! We're in winter and looking a bit sad but it'll get the creative juices flowing....

I can imagine it's a lot harder to ake an update during winter time. Personally, I don't have a lot going on during winter - but maybe this year I will, just to keep this contest going and give people on the other side of the globe the chance to showcase their summer crops too :0)

Good idea. It is encouraging comparing. We have far less happening in winter. It our time for repairs, preparations, clean up. The gardens and orchard is rather sparse, although our lemon and tangerine tree drip with fruit. My goats are pregnant and I get to spend time, which I don't usually have wandering the fields with them

I promise I'll keep it going all year long, so you also get a chance to show off your summer garden ;0)
