Steemit SEO Casestudy - Rethinking My Strategy While Moving Forward

Seo Internal Links.jpg

Introduction

The big picture idea of this project is to build a blog that ranks for keywords, has high page authority and that becomes a great source of backlinks for our clients.

Change of Strategy - More Internal Links and Authoritative Content

One thing that I am getting painfully aware of is that it is so easy to forget the basics of SEO.

One thing that I forgot to take into account is to create a series of posts that I want to rank for...call them "authoritative" content that answer specific questions. That content is usually much longer when it comes to word count, rich in h1,h2,h3, bold italic, bullet points , etc.

**From there whenever I write other pieces of content, I can keep referring my articles to one another. **

For example, today I published How to Get to Ucluelet - By Land, By Air and By Sea...Your Choice!. I know that I will often refer to this in my future articles...so why linking to my own article rather than someone else's?

SEO Benefits of Internal Links

Internal Links are hyperlinks that point at (target) the same domain as the domain that the link exists on (source). In layman's terms, an internal link is one that points to another page on the same website.

The ideal internal link structure would look something like this:

link-pyramid.png

So I am creating a series of top tier blogposts that will be "the big cheese" of my account. Then whenever I can cover a specific aspect of one of those, then I will refer within it aspects of that top tier article.

Example:

A Top Tier article for @ucluelet could be: 88 Things to do in Ucluelet

I could then create a blogpost the next day about "Whale Watching" that refers back to the "Things to do in Ucluelet" page...and so on and so forth.

Conclusion

Learn, Do & Repeat.

Nice write up @cryptoctopus. Internal linking is definitely vauluable for any sites SEO, but it is only beneficial if your website has native authority. If not, you will still need authoritative back links from niche sites.

As a content writer and manager for an SEO agency, I totally agree with your basic premise...create internal links.

Create Laternal Inks

Solid strategy to be used n the near future. Thanks for sharing, Namaste :)

This is more than obvious... The thing with steemit is that posts gets "old", and people don't want to link older than 7 days posts...

agreed. The people who only focus on the value of a post by it's payout are shortsighted. :-)

Indeed, the search engine optimization that steemit offers is huge!... I for one have to study a lot more about SEO, but i have been amazed by all steemit posts showing up first on google search, there is a lot of value there, other than the payouts...

Thats how I got here. I kept Googling things that had the best answers on this odd looking steemit sight. Then when I saw Jerry Banfield start to shout at me in an add that I would normally ignore, I did a double take because it was the same new layout that had kept popping up in my Googling. I see a lot on here about how to help this site grow, but I believe this would be the most helpful. After all, it got me here and I generally dont participate in this sort of thing.

Yep, this have the potential to bring a lot of people that usually wont do traditional social media...

Steemit also has a lot of page authority with the search engines and it should only grow over time. I was going to see if I could find the post I read that talked about that but it was yours @cryptoctopus --- SEO Case Study - Domain Authority & Page Authority

Maybe they just have Steemit Miopic Delayed Gratificaton Impulse Control syndrome

Maybe they just have steemtigmatism

I think SEO on Steemit is a virtually untapped gold mine at this point. I've made several posts about adding anchor text/image links and alt tags for images and I've seen a few others who have begun to spread the word.

I can give links to the posts if you like (they're already past their payouts) but I didn't want to spam your comments with my links.

Steemit is a gold mine. It will explode when they make it as an app.

if your links is in the same context, I don't have any issues with it :-)

I still like to get permission before I drop links:

Anchor Text & Image Links

&

Alt Tags for Images In Steemit Posts

I hope people can find them useful.

So did you do any keyword research to determine what to write for these "authoritative" content pieces or did you already have an idea of what you wanted there?

oh yes. I know the top keywords via google keyword planner and just knowing the tourist mindset.

Nice. That makes sense. I'm really enjoying this series.

Retrospective reasoning in this outlook for applying to a strategy plan.
Excellent and brilliant!

Thank you for your advice into what I should be doing as well.

Another great post explaining some SEO. Thanks for sharing your HQ content.

Very good post with valuble article about SEO and internet marketing...wel done sir...this post very usefull all internet users and bussinessmans....thank yoy so much @cryptoctopus sharing your valuble knowledge with us...keep it up..GOD BLESS YOU

Steemit limits what we can do with SEO. That much is true.

Until the time that the developers implement such a feature, we have to improvise in whatever way we can, such as when I create my running table of contents for my Netflix reviews.

In what way is it limiting what we can do?

Well, for example, consider what happens if you have your own Wordpress site.

In a Wordpress blog, when you create a new blog post, it automatically creates three or more internal links to previous posts of the blog, based on the category and tags of the current post. As soon as you hit "publish" you have three internal links.

Furthermore, on your own Wordpress site you have category and tag groupings that link only to other posts on your same site, and not to external sites or other blogs (Steemit tags are not internal to you personally).

When you upload a picture, Wordpress gives you a GUI interface with which to enter alt text, picture tags, etc.

Wordpress also allows you to create "Pages", which are general purpose posts not tied to any one date and are great for creating tables of content for your blog.

Wordpress also automatically logs your posts into an interactive calendar made up of---you guessed it---internal links to your own content.

Wordpress also allows you to populate your sidebars with any number of custom links.

Wordpress automatically generates copious amounts of metadata every time you post, sending up a million flags to passing spider bots.

Steemit, as far as I can tell, does not give us any of these options. So yes, Steemit is limiting what we can do, as far as SEO is concerned. Perhaps most limiting of all is the fact that in order to make a Steemit post, you actually have to put it on Steemit.com, where your content gets lost in the sea of other Steemit users. One step they could take is allowing users to set up their own Steemit blogs on their own personal websites, as well as adding in all the aforementioned features of Wordpress blogs.

Yet my steemit posts ranks higher than on high authority wordpress websites I manage.

If you don't know the difference between SEO and search rankings then you shouldn't be writing articles on the subject.

Wait, that's just mean.

We can disagree about this without being jabby.

Interesting serious strategy, thing to see how it develops over time.

thats how it works.... looking forward for more it can offer...

Very interesting. I never even thought about this sort of structure.

Thanks for the post, upvote coming your way

That look and sound good. I would love to see that come to reality.

I've been thinking about this idea for weeks. I used to link posts together, but didn't think it helped. I might give this another try.

You can even EDIT your TOP TIER post and it can have like a LIST of all your top posts! Rank them even by number of upvotes

dude yeah SEO omng imagine when we teach every minnow to be our little SEO Grunts IMAGINE the ower of this ARMY of dedicated WARRIORS

We can flood the internets with Steemit branding steemit comments steemit memes and people have tyo realize we have to post our steemit related styeemit branded posts OUTSIDE of steemit haha so we dont nexicaraly get PAIE for postiong all over ionstsgram and facebook and twitter everyday BUt we WILlw hen we rperort back to steemit everynight showing ALL the posts we made on social media to promote steemit , steemit will pay us for this , post anout it, and everynight steemit will love it and ull get upvites for this!

good idea. i also want to think how i can do it

Nice idea, will be hard to do without any offsite links though. Following to see how it goes.

Been wondering, have the efforts you've put into Steemit @ucluelet actually translated into an increase in physical bookings at the location?

A good internal link structure is massively underrated. This combined with some backlinks is one of the best way to get targetted traffic from organic search results.

Agree with @ironmanmatt though regarding having some authority and requiring some decent backlinks for it to be effective but internally it's the best way to tell Google which pages matter the most.

Great idea for the great succes..
