Splinterlands Earthquake & Lost Magic Ruleset Battle - Protect The Queen! Part 2

In the previous blog I had also touched on Nectar Queen being the true queen of the battle for Earthquake battles. Here is a battle where she shines when used in the right position and kept in reserve to avoid taking the first damages in the battle.

As mentioned previously, Nectar Queen is a great monster to use in Earthquake Ruleset battles in Splinterlands NFT Play2Earn card game. Earthquake simply means that non-flying cards take 2 damage every round.

Splinterlands Earthquake & Lost Magic Ruleset Battle

In this instance I used Nectar Queen in a Splinterlands Earthquake & Magic Lost ruleset battle.

Here is the summoner and the monsters I used in this 21 mana battle 'Earthquake' and 'Lost Magic' (means no magic can be used in this battle):

Mylor Crowling

Mylor Crowling of the Earth Splinter is a Splinterlands Summoner that gives the 'Thorn' ability to all monsters that does wonders for all melee monsters that are selected. This ability means that every time a monster is attacked my a melee attack monster, it does damage back to that monster. The main reason I chose Mylor Crowling was not just for the 'Thorn' ability but because I wanted to use Earth Splinter's Nectar Queen which is an awesome flying ability card great for 'Earthquake' ruleset battles. 'Thorn' is an especially useful ability when there is a 'Lost Magic' ruleset battle as there is a higher chance that more melee monsters might be used by the enemy which in this battle turns out to be true because 2 melee monsters were used by the enemy and the 'Thorn' ability did a good deal of damage to the enemy monsters.

Epona

Epona was the first positioned card in this battle and it is a good filler card because it costs only 1 mana and at level 1 this monster also gives +1 health to all monsters. I used this card in the 1st position to take the 1st round damages from the opponent to 'Protect The Queen' which will be placed in 3rd position so she can be kept protected from the early damages in the battle.

Creeping Ooze

Creeping Ooze is also another good filler card as it costs only 1 mana to use this monster in battles. I placed this monster in 2nd position to also give more protection for Nectar Queen from first round attacks in this battle. I place this card second so at the very least it will slow down the enemy and possibly allow my monsters to do the first hits to the enemy. However, in this case the enemy's non-flying archers were fast speed monsters and had the first attacks anyway but in the first round could only kill Epona and Creeping Ooze as per my strategy to allow Nectar Queen to avoid these first attacks from the enemy monsters.

Nectar Queen

(The Star)

Nectar Queen is truly the queen in this battle. She is protected from the early attacks. She is in 3rd position for this battle. The idea here is to hope that the opponent's non-flying cards get damaged by earthquake first and waste their first attacks on the first 2 cards first before she gets into battle as a front card (she is a front battle melee card which means can only battle as a front card). She has high health and also has the flying ability. Enemy melees and range tend to miss her occasionally too. At level 4 she has 4 attack, 12 health and 3 speed which makes her a great monster to use in battles. Furthermore, if the opponent used melee monsters, the 'Thorn' ability that the summoner Mylor Crowling gives gives her that added advantage. The 'Thorn' ability causes any melee monster attacks on her to give damage back.

Screeching Vulture

Screeching Vulture is an great monster to use especially in Earthquake rulesets cause of its flying ability. This is also an awesome monster to use together with Nectar Queen and due to its flying ability and its opportunity ability (melee attack on the lowest health enemy monster). This is why I positioned this card behind the Nectar Queen in the 4th position due to its low health. It is placed in the 4th position to also protect it from early sneak attacks. The early snipe and opportunity attacks from the opponent in the first round will be taken by other monsters which in this battle the enemy opportunity attack was taken by my Battering Ram (less important because of non-flying and only 1 melee opportunity monster) which was in 5th position but had lower health than my Screeching Vulture. The Screeching Vulture for this battle was the 2nd most important monster that I had to keep protected from early attacks.

Battering Ram

Battering Ram is usually not a monster that I would use in an Earthquake ruleset battle but in this case I used it as I had 4 mana left to spare and wanted to use 2 more monsters that would cause some distraction to the enemy and be able to at least deal a little damage to enemy monsters. In this battle my Battering Ram which was placed in the 5th position did cause the enemy monster damage with its 'Thorn' ability which damaged the enemy before being killed off in the 1st round. My Screeching Vulture finished off the opponent's Screeching Vulture as it has only 2 health left after getting 'Thorn' damage from my Battering Ram which it had killed off which was a big plus cause that meant the enemy had only 1 flying monster left (Pelacor Mercenary) in the battle and it was already facing the Star of the battle, Nectar Queen.

Goblin Dartling

Goblin Dartling is another good monster card to use if you have some mana to spare and are deciding on which card to place at the rear to give a little protection. I placed it in the last position. It is a 2 mana monster with 4 health 3 speed and one range archer attack. However, it can give more protection from the rear because of the 'Thorn' ability it has which means and melee sneak attack would have taken to damage back.

I am sorry that its a long blog on one battle but I like explaining things in little more detail and I hope that this also gives you an idea to form your own strategies in your battles. Every monster chosen for your battle has to be carefully thought out and in my case I always keep in mind to protect my important cards against the 1st snipe, opportunity and sneak attacks in the game, unless its a ruleset where no snipe and sneak can be used or when all abilities are lost.

Hope this blog has been helpful especially for newbies to the Splinterlands game. This is a fun game with huge investment potential for NFT collectors. If you have been thinking of joining this game, you can use my Splinterlands referral link.

It takes only $10 to play the game with unlocked starter cards. This will unlock rewards that you can earn on a daily basis with daily quests and also at season end which is every 15 days.

Splinterlands is great for NFT investors as history has shown that the cards give great returns on investment and it is an awesome card game too.

For a start my advice is not to rush into buying cards immediately. Battle with other players first to see what cards bring value and are most effective in battles. You can also buy packs which contain the latest new cards with great price growth potential. Feel free to drop me a comment should you need any assistance or advice.
