I lost all my IDs and wallet in the train station!

There is a very good reason why I haven't been blogging for the last few days consistently. HIVE has been an incredible source of help and information for me since the beginning of the invasion. Even when I was at the lowest mentally, monetarily, and physically, it was the people of Hive who helped me with donations, by being my friends and constantly checking in with me, giving me a place to stay, and more. All of us were technically strangers only connected through the blockchain, yet they were and still are here for me when and if I need them. And every day I think of ways to thank you all properly.

I will never say life is good now. But it is so much better than I expected. I am trying every day to work towards making my life "good" again - may it be here or back in Ukraine. And one thing keeps coming up again and again: there are good people everywhere!

I had lost trust in people many times throughout this journey. And maybe someday I'll be bold enough to talk about all the shitty people I have experienced in these few months. But till then I'll focus on the good, kind-hearted people. Because they are worth every bit of praise and recognition.

When Britt came to meet me, we got to avail the train tickets for refugees. The next day I was going to Amsterdam and it was very exciting. I could go and exchange some crypto for cash, I could walk around and learn more about the jobs available in the busy city where the English language has a higher demand. And so on.

But halfway to Amsterdam, my heart sank. I couldn't find my wallet in my pockets.

You see, my wallet is the most precious belonging I have. It has all my IDs and the little cash I have left. Without that I am nothing. All my legal statuses, my ride back to Ukraine, my identity, my emergency funds, everything is in that wallet. And I had lost it.

Naturally, I assumed the worst. It would take another 30 minutes to go back to my station where I had lost my wallet. In 30 minutes, the wallet would be lost forever. And then the world gave a person another chance at showing me that good people exist...

Out of the blue, I get a message on messenger on my requests tab. I always ignore those because they are usually scams or spam. But for some reason, I decided to open it. And my god, I couldn't believe it.

Hi man , i found one wallet on the ground and I think its for you,let me know if that is for you

A gentleman by the name of Arshia reached out to me and told me he found my wallet at the train station. Imagine, this person found a wallet, decided to scrounge the internet to find me, found me solely based on the information he had on the IDs, and reached out.

It took me 30 minutes to get back to the train station and he waited all that time patiently for me. After reaching he verified it was mine by asking me my full name and how much money I had in my wallet and handed it to me and wished me luck.

He is a firefighter, a volunteer first responder, and a rugby player here. He was late to his work but he still made it a priority to get me my wallet first. He literally saved my life. I can't even begin to imagine what would I have to do if I had lost my IDs. To thank him I made sure he and his buddies at the fire station get some beers.

Yes, it was very careless on my end to lose my most valuable possession. As a refugee, there is a very small permissible margin of error. One small thing can ruin your future. But I am glad Arshia was there to help me out.

An interesting story. The world shows you that there are a lot of good people around. Be more careful, try to rest more.

It is nice to see there are still good people in the world.

A lot of them apparently. Everyday I meet someone who goes beyond their way to help.

When I saw the title of your post, I thought this is exactly what you don't need right now, or ever. But my second thought was the Netherlands is one of the best countries when t comes to safety. It's not Africa, it's not Asia (yeah, I know I may be hurting some people, but the truth is the truth) and as you can see, many people are trustworthy.

I don't even want to imagine what would have happened if someone else would have found your wallet. Horrible.

It may be hurtful but it is very true. I was very anxious because I knew what the outcome would be were it be somewhere else... Even uae or Ukraine. But very happy that someone like Arshia found it.

My pleasure.

Oh my! It was such a relief knowing that you got everything so nicely returned to you! I hope you immediately made photo copies of all of your documents. You should be able to do that at the library and it might make it easier to get by if they were ever really lost. There ARE good people in the world!

Yes. That's the first thing I did next. And also got a shoulder bag so I don't need to leave all the important stuff in a risky place.

Wow, how lucky. It's really a drag to lose a wallet. Been there, done that. 🥴

I'm glad you were able to recover it. 🤗
