RE: What is the #1 change needed for Steem - Win $20+ upvote

in #steem6 years ago

There's something I've been thinking about for a while that I don't see anyone ever mention. Nor do I know if there are too many limitations to it or problems that would arise. I think it could be done, though, because the payout time was already changed from 24hr/30 days to the 7 days we have now.

What about making the payout time on a post have no limit. If posts could continue to earn after 7 days, this would incentivize people to put out quality over quantity. You could spend 12 hours writing a very good post and have it only make $2 in the first 7 days. If payouts could continue, that post could eventually make $100-200 as more people discover it over time. A vote on any given day would still be taken from the reward pool from that day without affecting anything. And we already have to manually click a button to get our payouts so adding payouts from all posts could be done in the same way; maybe tally the votes every 30 days to allow for flagging as well. Over time, I think this would allow real quality posts to reach the top and the shit posts wouldn't. Maybe a cap on post earnings would be necessary, but I think that's already in place it's just that no one has reached it yet. Or maybe there are problems to this I haven't realised.

I like this idea...not sure how it would impact the Blockchain. It would help newcomers for sure. Sometimes I find older content and wish to upvote it. This would make even more sense with Dtube or Dlive. Takes more hours to upload and edit video content. The time lapse or time period should be extended or have no limit.

Most content doesn't lose value after only 1 week. Stories, photography, drawings, video, paintings, music, tutorials, etc. It all continues to have value long after this Blockchain stops paying for it, yet it's still available for everyone to see. I too have stumbled across all kinds of older posts that I wish I could upvote. They're is a lot of information and tutorials already on here that show up in Google searches. It would be great to give someone an monetary upvote on a post that was two years old because it had value to me that far down the road.
